election night game ideas?
I think this belongs here more then it belongs in politics -- mods, if i'm wrong, please move.
So some friends of mine are having an election night party tomorrow and we'd really like to incorporate some fun games. we've already committed to drinking a fair bit so nothing too difficult but we would like to keep everyone amused and involved. We've tossed around the idea of some how betting on states or percentages or something but so far none of the ideas seem easily implemented and fun -- so i'm looking for suggestions. |
Take a shot whenever CNN (or whomever) declares state X goes to candidate Y before the voting in that state is done.
|
Have your friends pick sides (if your group is politically diverse). When the state goes to a particular candidate, the people affiliated with that side takes as many shots as electoral college votes. (Watch out for CA, with 55 votes. :D )

Election Scrabble.... spell out words that are political or have been hot points in this year's campaigns.

I'm helping run a huge election night party at my school and one of the games we're doing is a color your own electoral college map. Basically there will be a table with a bunch of blank maps and a ton of crayons, and you color the map the way you think it'll turn out, the one who gets it right wins. Might not be as cool with a smaller group, or without the grand prize of a DVD player.

i like the map coloring idea but it seems a bit too easy since only a few state are really swing states. and we're already pencilling in a drinking game -- it looks like i can come up with a few more rules from this thread -- thanks guys, and keep the ideas coming!

Take a drink for every state that Nader doesn't win....

Hi Brianna,
(Assuming that the results will be as close as they're saying) Take a drink every time Dan Rather analogizes the closeness of the race with something obscure, nonsesical, and completely hilarious. some examples from the 2000 CBS coverage: From http://archives.thedaily.washington....lectionra.html TOP 20 OF ELECTION 2000 DAN RATHER-ISMS: 20) "If you think the election's over, don't you go there!" 19)."The rest of us could be out here in the desert for a good while." -On Americans awaiting Presidential election results. 18) "It's way past the witching hour at this point in the game." 17) "Close only counts with hand grenades and horseshoes." 16) "This much tension can't be cut with a saw. It requires a blowtorch!" 15) "Well, the word 'goofy' comes to mind. It may be a tad strong, but I'm not sure." 14) "If a frog had sidepockets, he'd carry a handgun." 13) "The race is tight, like a too-small two piece bathing-suit." 12) "Both parties have champagne on ice, but that champagne might get so cold that you'd have to get a pick ax to open it up because its so frozen up." 11) "Round and round it goes, exactly who and where the vote comes from, nobody knows." 10) "Bush was at the 5-yard line. Now he moves back to about the 3-yard line." 9) "They've put up, now they can shut up, because they've won." -Speaking of the to-be-determined presidential winner. 8) "Gore winning without California would be like trying to scratch his ear with his elbow." 7) "They're like a smiling cat in a creamery." -Comment of state of Tennessee residents after Bush took Tennessee 6) "This race is crackling like a hickory fire." 5) "He must be madder than a rained-on rooster." -On Bush after the first Florida electoral votes went to Gore. 4) "His lead is melting faster than ice cream in a microwave." 3) "No one's calling this race, oh boy. Not even me!" 2) "Let's face it, Al Gore has his back to the wall, his shirt tails on fire and his bill collectors at the door." 1) "That's how tight it is: It's spandex tight!" hope your party is a blast! :) |
