Do you take issue caps being worn backwards?

I often find myself wearing a cap backwards, and am curious about what you all think when you see someone wearing a backwards cap?

Do you assume they are trying to be a gangster, or do you accept it as any other fashon statement people make every time they get dressed?

Also, generally, what kind of impression does a seeing a backwards cap make on you before you talk to them? Negative, positive, neutral?

Whenever I leave the house and have a cap on backwards my dad says, "Sup Homie?" or some other wisecrack that relates directly to the way I'm wearing my cap. I think it's funny, and it's all in good fun, but I'm wondering how you all react to seeing a backwards cap on someone's head?

I actually wear the caps backwards because I think it looks better that way, and am not a big fan of having a huge bill floating out in front of my forehead. Also, I have a Cleveland Browns hat with bright orange underneath the bill, and if not worn backwards, it's quite distracting. :)

What's your take on this?

DJ Happy 10-05-2004 05:14 AM

I've already ranted about this on the "What annoys you" thread. But to sum up what I wrote there, I think it's silly.

Sorry.

maleficent 10-05-2004 05:14 AM

I like to think I was way ahead of my time... Back in college (82-86), when I was too lazy to wash my hair before 8:00am classes, baseball caps were headwear of choice, since i wore/wear glasses, I hated the brim, because it always bumped my glasses, so i wore the cap backwards... It was a look.

Now, it doesn't bother me... Just... here's a personal pet peeve of mine... You are indoors, especially in a restaurant... Take your dang blasted hat off :) Other than that - -I don't care.

Dark Assailant 10-05-2004 05:15 AM

I love wearing ball caps. I wear mine backwards when I go running so the wind doesn't pick it up. I also wear mine at certain bars / clubs.

Conclusion : can be good for comfort and fashion !

Stereotype image is all based on perception...

Yea, that's something my dad always made sure I did as a kid.. Which is good, because indoors at a public place I agree the hat should come off.

Also, never underestimate the value of proofreading a title. I came back to this post and was embarassed by the lack of sense the title to this thread makes. :)

Glory's Sun 10-05-2004 05:29 AM

I think it depends on the person actually. Sometimes I wear it backwards, and sometimes the regular way. More often than not I wear it regular. I don't put any stock into what a person is wearing most of the time.

Pragma 10-05-2004 05:34 AM

I wear it backwards when I'm running or in the car, so the wind doesn't pull it off - I wear it forwards when I need it to shade my eyes.

I enjoy wearing hats, and that's as far as my thought process goes - nothing like "wanting to be a gangsta" here.

Now, if someone is wearing their hat sideways, I think that's probably trying too hard at the gangster thing.

ARTelevision 10-05-2004 05:49 AM

I wear mine frontwards because that's how we wear them in the country. The visor has a purpose sheilding one's eyes from the sun and things like brambles in the eye while walking through the woods. It has a practical heritage and could be considered a fashion statement I suppose, but in truth, I think it's not the same sort of fashion statement one makes when wearing it backwards. I do, however, prefer to be identified as one who does things the way they are done in a rural area that might be identified as backward, uneducated, anti-intellectual, and uncool. I enjoy the irony of that.

Delirious 10-05-2004 05:49 AM

Whats worse is those punks that wear the golf visors and think they look cool~

I don't mind the hat being worn backward, it looks a little juvenile, but I still do it from time to time and I'm 32.

What does bug me are the 'crooked hats' where the brim is yanked over to one side...that looks stupid.

I second that !

As George Carlin said, "If you're over the age of ten years old, then it's time to spin those caps back around."

It's a hat. It goes on your head. You have one on yours. Good.

Ahaha I do that. I don't REALLY wear my hat like that normally, but sometimes if I was picking someone up or whatever I'd wear that and my bathrobe just to look like a goof.

Now I can respect that. If you are trying to look stupid for a gag or a goof you would wear your hat all crooked. It's the jackasses wandering around all day with their $50 ball caps on sideways that make me wonder if they're handicapped (I don't mean to be offensive to the handicapped). I just find myself thinking, "When did looking like an idiot become a fashion statement?"

If this keeps up the next fashion statment is going to be piss-stained pants and shoes on the wrong feet.

afterhours2k4 10-05-2004 09:02 AM

I dont feel that wearing a hat backwards qualifies you for "gangsta" status. Being a former minor league baseball player we never wore our hats in the reverse on the field. This was out of respect for the game and the league.

The only thing that seems to bother me is the hat that is worn "off-center" and/or "slanted," making it look like you got dressed with the lights off. It may be a fashion trend but it annoys the hell out of me. Just looks sloppy.

Right on to this point. If you are indoors then lose the lid. Other than that whatever flips your skirt up skippy! ;)

MikeyChalupa 10-05-2004 09:10 AM

Backwards is okay in certain situations, as far as I'm concerned. But off-center, sticking up sideways, or 3/4 backwards ALWAYS looks stupid. Also, take the fucking tag off. What's that all about? Going to return it later? Want everyone to know exactly how much you paid for it? What purpose does that serve? Maybe I'm not supposed to uderstand it.

Of course, with a ballcap being part of a regulation Navy working uniform, it's the first thing I'll jump in someone's ass about if they have it off-center.

Suave 10-05-2004 09:12 AM

Haha marq. Well, every decade has its dumb styles (shredded jeans and plaid in the 90's, funny hair/parachute pants/supertight men's jeans/blouses on men/the list goes on for the 80's), and luckily I don't think they keep going downhill, they more oscillate between ludicrous and slightly odd.

tropple 10-05-2004 09:14 AM

I often wore my hat reversed while working to ensure a clear view or to keep it out of the way when viewing somthing through a scope. I don't have any problem with backwards hats. But, as The Marq mentioned, that off-center slanted thing is just damned annoying. When I see it, I have this incredible urge to shout, "square away that cover!" It has that "rag bag" look that just pisses me off. Damned kids.

the_marq 10-05-2004 09:22 AM

Oh and one more thing. While we're on the topic, someone already mentioned you should take your hat of indoors. It's just the polite and civilized thing to do.

However, when it comes to sunglasses, inside....at night...when it's cloudy. Jebus H. Christ! What is wrong with you people? Now, I am not talking about the "club kid" shades that are fairly clear and typically worn for fashion, it's the dark dark shades that you know the guy is wearing in a futile and vain attempt to look cool and disaffected. Oh and they almost always have mullets. BAH! A pox on you.

...ok I think I am done ranting now.

I played Def Jam Fight 4 NY the other week, and while checking out their player customization feature, there were literally at least 20 different ways in which your character could wear his hat. Granted, that game is catering to the thug fashion statement, but it was just interesting to see so many different ways to wear a piece of headware.

The backwards and upside visor still tops the list for me though. I've never seen one worn in person, but they seem to be pretty popular when used in CAPs in online games.

omega2K4 10-05-2004 09:39 AM

I hardly wear hats anymore. If I do wear one backwards, its when I'm shooting a rifle. I can't stand for the bill of the cap to be in my face when I'm shooting.

And this is why I generally don't wear hats. If the hat goes on, it stays on, otherwise I have wicked bad hat-head. In fact, I will feel the "ghost hat" on my head for the rest of the day, even if I subsequently wash my hair.

cjayemail 10-05-2004 10:21 AM

a hats a hat, it does not make you gangster or not gangster. your head wear does not change who you are or how you should be percieved at all...its just a hat

Grancey 10-05-2004 11:11 AM

I believe people are entitled to do as they wish, as long as they do not harm or intend to harm someone else. If you want to wear your hat backwards, go for it. But you wanted personal opinions, which is different from beliefs. Therefore, my personal opinion, as a female, is that wearing a hat backwards gives off a persona of being immature. Also, it looks kind of stupid. Sorry to be so blunt, but it does. But I value people for who they are on the inside. So, how they look or what they wear does not affect my relationship with or my opinion of that individual.

Having your hat backwards can mean a few things, you like the hat, but it doesn't suit you frontwards. It's damn windy outside and you need some aerodynamics to cut through the wind (speed walking, oh yes!... or not), but seriously, either way isn't a problem. It's usually how you compose yourself as a person with the hat, that's when it takes any effect.

Usually hats for guys are psychological comforters, similar to what long hair is to girls. So whatever, wear your hat how you want.

Except for those upside-down, backwards golf hats... you look likea flower vase.

MSD 10-05-2004 12:39 PM

There is only one time I wear a cap, and I wear it backwards because that's the only way it fits at the same time as a paintball mask. It also gives some protection for the back of the neck that way.

In daily life, the only hat I wear is a cowboy hat, and if I wore that backswards or sideways I'd look like a developmentally-challenged Texan

radioguy 10-05-2004 01:24 PM

it depends on the hat. some hats have stupid brims that i don't like. some of the hats i have are high profile and those look stupid on my head. i don't have a problem with anyone wearing a hat backwards. a hat isn't going to change a person, so it doesn't bother me.

my grandfather won't let me in the house if i have my hat on backwards. i guess it is a generational thing.

I generally don't wear hats. "One size fits all" doesn't fit me. Even fitted hats in my size are hard to come by.

Carno 10-05-2004 02:51 PM

I don't give a shit about people wearing hats backwards. I sometimes wear hats backwards. I don't do it because I think it makes me look like a gangsta, I do it because I want to. In fact, why do people think that wearing a baseball cap makes someone look gangsta? I have never heard of that, nor do I know anyone who thinks that, except on TFP.

Don't judge people because they wear a hat backwards.. In fact, that's probably one of the dumbest things to judge a person about.

Rodney 10-05-2004 03:18 PM

If they're teenagers and white, I generally assume that they're posers, as are most people who follow any kind of style that's supposed to make them look rebellious and dangerous. I'm old, so I can tell you all about suburban punks, week-end hippies, and sixteen-year-old-kids in black motorcycle leather (riding Hondas!).

Also, I'm probably one of the few guys here old enough to have seen a lot of "Bowery Boys" movies, grade C comedies from the '40s and '50s about a bunch of gang kids from New York. A lot of _them_ wore their caps backward, because it was a style then as well. And since the Bowery Boys movies went on for 20 years (under different names) by the end the actors were all middle-aged guys playing goofy teenagers with their hats turned around. It was really pathetic.

So when I see kids thinking it's cool, I know that they sure wouldn't if they saw a Bowery Boys movie!

animosity 10-05-2004 04:31 PM

I tend to think that people that wear caps are trying to hide something, that maybe they dont have much confidence... When I see someone wearing a cap backwards I think a few things: First, at least it isnt sideways. Second, wasnt that the style in the early 90's? And third, he/she must have some confidence to wear a hat like that.

I dont have a problem with it. I dont know why anyone would. It is just an accessory.

Here's a tip: pick a better team, Brownie!!! Just kidding, I guess if you picked the best team (the Cincinnati Bengals of course), it still wouldn't solve the problem. I wear my Bengals hat backward in class so the bill doesn't get in people's way so much. I think that you shouldn't wear your hat backwards unless it is fitted or flex-fit so your hair doesn't some through the little hole in the back, and if you're eating, don't wear one at all.

I used to share the same view on backwards caps and only wearing them backwards if fitted, but lately I have been flipping my hair so that it comes out the "hole." I'm not sure if it's fashionable or not (probably not), but I kind of like the look.

Also, it is through this "Experiment" that I have discovered that my hair can successfully flip the other direction. Generally the "wave" goes from left right right, but just the other day I noticed that when flipping it through the gap in the hat, it can also go right to left..

This is actually a pretty big development for me, because my hair has always kind of "grown" into the left to right wave.. And now that I know the other is possible, I can mix it up in the hopes that the hair will grow reasonable straight.

Lastly, regarding the Browns.. I thought this was their year to do well, but I think I thought way wrong.. I honestly have no idea how they beat the Redskins this past weekend, and I forsee them struggling to win games from here on out. I'd like to be wrong, but I'm just being realistic.. We'll see what happens though.

MSD 10-05-2004 05:45 PM

Oh, I forgot to add, upside-down, sideways visors should be punishable by house arrest.

Destrox 10-05-2004 05:52 PM

Long as you are not wearing a sweatband around your head with the visor / cap sideways or upsidedown I wont judge you.

If you do wear it in the previous description, I'm sorry but I will judge you as a idiot.

To all you military types that are getting bent about the guys wearing their hats off kilter do yourself a favor...go back and look at some pictures of a lot of the WW2 era G.I.s. A lot of them wore their dress uniform covers off their heads at a slant. It was quite funny I first noticed it watching the History channel and I was like..."huh...who knew the latest hood life trend was started in 1940 by a white guy."

SirSeymour 10-06-2004 05:01 AM

Backwards is not such a big deal. I do that sometimes myself, especially when working around the house on a saturday when I don't shower first thing in the morning. It is the guys that wear their cap at slight twist to the right or the left that get me. They are just trying to look the part of the hip dude and it drives me nuts. Just like these kids who feel the need to wear their pants down around their lower hips so their boxers show out the top. Around here, it is not uncommon to see kids who have to actively hold their pants up with one hand to keep them on their body. Ridiculous.

psydreamer 10-06-2004 05:19 AM

I don't always like the brim limiting my field of vision, so I sometimes wear mine backwards too. Generally, when I see someone wearing one backwards, it makes me think of college.....a lot of us wore them that way.....back then.

DDDDave 10-06-2004 05:48 AM

OK, since you asked...

This backwards hat thing is all a part of a larger social phenomenon, or should I say scourge, known as the 'pussification' of the American male.
Since when did it become neccessary for any self-respecting man to have to 'accesorize' his wardrobe? What's next 'man purses'?, hair ribbons?, shoes with flowerdy stuff on them?.
Real men don't need a hat to establish some sort of persona. Hats were invented to serve a practical purpose. Several of the real men here have told us how they are still used today as such. Farmers, sailors, ball players all wear the hat in it's correct orientation to serve a true need. Even wearing one around on a Saturday morning to hide 'bed hair' is at least reasonable and serves some purpose. Wearing a hat backwards for a night out on the town is just wrong, and dare I say, stupid. Why not wear a scuba mask? Maybe some soccer shin gaurds? Cool, huh? 'Hey blood, look at these cool rubber gloves I be sportin' tonight'.

So, other than seeing a low self-esteemed punk trying to make some sort of 'angry young man' statement to the world, or a flamer trying to outdress his other flamer friends I don't percieve any thing different about someone wearing his cap backwards.

:) :) :) :)

Bill O'Rights 10-06-2004 06:14 AM

I wore a backwards ballcap in the late 70's. Of course, I was working as a welder, at the time. The bill of the cap kept hot sparks, and slag, from going down the back of my shirt collar. That was a little trick that I learned from my dad. Who would've guessed that we were trendsetters? Of course, when we were finished welding, and took off our hoods, we would turn our caps around to face the right way. ;)

StickODynomite 10-06-2004 09:36 AM

I must agree with those of you when you say the "crooked" look is very annoying. That implies that you're trying to be gangster, hands down.

As far as wearing a hat backwards, you can usually look at a person and tell why they wear it that way, for comfort or for looks. The only time it annoys me when worn for looks is when I see a guy wearing everything that color coordinates, his shoe laces with his shoes, his shoes with his pants, his pants with his shirt, his shirt with his hat. I really hate this, and I dont know why, but it really really irks me. They go a bit too far, and those are usually the types that just want to look gangster or "pimp"

Pragma 10-06-2004 02:08 PM

I don't see why a perfectly normal guy can't wear a hat backwards without people thinking that it "means" something - I wear mine frontwards or backwards, and I don't try to send any messages no matter which way it faces.

Hats are nice because they keep my scalp from getting sunburnt (and boy does that suck!).

I wear in the direction that supplies the most shade to the direction from which the sunlight is coming (especially if out for a long time and have stupidly left home without a larger "all around" hat). Saving my pale skin from the sun is much more important than how I look.

We pale skinned computer nerds have to protect our look, you know :)

There are times when i feel better wearing it backwards.. where it kepes my head warm and yet allows me full view and enjoy the scene with my eyes.. and there are other times when i dont[ want to look at the people and just be away in my own little world.. and i put the cap on forwards then.. i guess for me it all depends on my mood.

I only wear my backwards when its late at night(dark out)

And it has to be a fullback or fitted hat!

Right way:

Now who wears a baseball cap when giving oral? I sure as hell don't

jimk 10-08-2004 09:24 AM

baseball hat & cowboy boots (nothing else) is the only way to go, man. chicks dig it.

Lasereth 10-08-2004 03:34 PM

It doesn't bother me when people wear it backwards. Some people hate a bill in front of them but like the feel of a hat on their head. Perfectly fine!

I also detest the rule where you gotta take off your hat in buildings. That's bullcrap. Who. Fucking. Cares. I love how it's an official rule that you do NOT have to take off hats in my College of Business building at ASU. Not everyone wears a hat to block out "obstacles;" some people wear it because they haven't had a shower or because they like the feel on their head.

Crooked hats, visors, or upside-down visors? Dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen. When a person has the hat on sideways, it's obviously not comfortable. That eliminates every possible reason that the person is wearing the hat but one: to look "cool." If you wear a hat to look cool, you have issues.

A couple years ago I moved from wearing hats to sunglasses. Now for work I have to wear one and it reallly itches.

Dengar 10-08-2004 07:07 PM

i only weear my hat when i dont take a shower and my hair is all messy. than sometimes i will wear it backwards just cuz i have a huuuuuuggggggeeeee noggin and my hat looks small when it is forward.

The only thing i have a problem with is when people wear visors backwards and upside down. pfffffttt

yournamehere 10-09-2004 11:15 AM

Hats only serve two purposes:
1. Shield your face from the sun.
2. Hide your "hat hair" until you can find a comb and a mirror.

There are only two reasons to wear it backwards:
1. When playing pool.
2. When giving a blowjob.

If you want to wear yours backwards, go right ahead - it's your right - just don't bother to ask me what I'm laughing at.

Especially if you're not carrying a pool cue.

joellp 10-09-2004 12:31 PM

I always feel bad for wearing my cap indoors but wearing one makes gives me bedhead x10. It's more embarrassing with it off.

Backwards is fine in my opinion.

AND, I've always found women that wear caps extremely hot - forward or backward.

AntoineMartinez 10-09-2004 05:35 PM

It really doesn't matter, as long as it doesn't like disturb the fasion flow. You don't want to be wearing a cap backwards in a business suit, would you? You would just look stupid.

wolfpack0102 10-09-2004 06:58 PM

yep i do take issue with it

Sp0rAdiC 10-09-2004 08:59 PM

Hats worn as theyre made to be worn - Fine with me
Hats worn backwards - Fine with me
Hats worn pointing up at a 45 degree angle and off to one side - I can't talk to that person without getting mad

I don't know what it is, it's just something that really bothers me. And of course, if you're at a table or somewhere where there is a lot of conversation and people, you've got to take the hat off. I can't stand it when people don't. I grew up with my parents teaching me those kinds of things, and they stuck. I have never really worn a hat, so it's never been an issue for me, but my brother wears one at the stupid ass angle, and he doesnt take it off at the dinner table, and then when I ask him nicely, he just ignores me, and then my parents tell me to mind my own business, blah blah blah, ITS DISRESPECTFUL. Sorry, I guess I kinda went a little off on that one.

I think anyone who has an 'issue' with someone wearing their cap backwards is really lacking something in their life. I don't have time to sit around worrying about what direction someone wears a domed piece of cloth on their head. But to each is own, if that kind of thing is important to you, then enjoy

Pragma 10-10-2004 07:37 PM

The only reason I can see why you might get offended at the clothing someone wears is if (a) it's got a message written on the clothing that is specifically offensive to you, your gender, your ethnic group, your sexual persuasion, etc. - or (b) the clothing is `special` to your group.

I can't think of any real examples of the last category, but let's suppose you belong to an indigenous group in some country who invented this sacred t-shirt, and only high priests are allowed to wear this t-shirt, and then Tommy Hilfiger comes along and makes a knock-off of the shirt, and you see some guy walking down the street wearing the shirt.

But getting offended or taking issue with a ball cap? If I was the type of person to take issue with a ballcap being worn backwards (or any other clothing item), I'd laugh - and then completely forget about the issue. :)

fastom 10-10-2004 11:25 PM

I thought they wore them to shield their under-30-year-old bald heads from view.

Backwards is just ignorance, the hats generally don't come with installation instructions and some buyers must miss the "Brim forward" tag.

solaron1 10-10-2004 11:38 PM

I don't really notice people wearing hats backwards anymore. I work in the mall and most people who wear hats have them on normally. The thing that annoyed me most was when people were wearing their visors upside down and to the side.

Shizukana 10-10-2004 11:59 PM

Yes, because all of us that wear our hats backwards are stupid/ignorant and gay...

Seriously, people. Could you be any more ridiculous?

The true ignorance is that people in this world look at other people and judge them based on the orientation of their headwear. Sorry, but if your opinion of me is lessened by the fact that I wear my cap backwards, you're not worth my time or association, and your opinion means little.

I wear my hat backwards 90% of the time, and have done so for years. The reasons are many, but basically I got used to wearing it backwards during the summer out on the lake and driving in cars with the windows or t-tops down... It's pretty easy to lose your hat in those situations with it turned forward. I got used to being able to use all of my peripheral vision (which having the bill forward restricts) and found that I preferred the hat backwards. It also covers all of your hair, including in the back, which is preferable if you like to just throw on a hat and go without fixing your hair, or if you don't want the back of your neck sunburnt. Not to mention that it just looks better backwards than forwards on me for some reason.

And, let's face it - sunglasses do a MUCH better job of keeping the sun out of your eyes than the bill of a hat does, and keeps the UV rays out, too.

Like many of you, I think the sideways hat or the visors sideways or upside down are just plain silly looking... but my judgements of the people wearing them are made by observing their mannerisms and my interactions with them, not based on their headwear.

Reese 10-11-2004 01:19 AM

-My hair looks like crap, clean or dirty
-Hat blows off while riding ATVs and Dirtbikes
-Hat Fits Better backwards, It's not just rotated, It's more of a rotate and the bill pulled down.. hard to explain but makes for a much better and tighter fit.. It's been known to blow off even while backwards if it's not on right.
-Protects against the sun.
-Hard to play basketball with it forward.
-Hard to read and write when it's forward.

All of these reasons contributed to why I started to wear my hat backwards, but the reason I keep it backwards is because I've wore it so long that I feel naked without it.

Your dad is joking of course, but it takes much more than a backwards cap for me to associate a person with a gangster, or any other person that actually uses "yo homie" in everyday speech.

denim 10-11-2004 04:14 AM

I haven't read the rest of the thread but: nope, I have real issues to concern me, like rent and socialization. People who wear baseball caps backwards aren't on my radar.

And let's not get me started on the poser-gangster look that has infused itself into my sport.
:(

Back to the question at hand.
I try not to judge a person by their taste (or lack there of) in clothing or headgear.
:D

alansmithee 10-11-2004 11:28 AM

Man, I didn't know people still cared about how a hat was wore, I thought that stopped being special in the 80's

:bops Lockjaw over the head with my cane:

Jeesh - a little respect please :)

The only problem with me wearing a baseball cap backwards now, other than I'd look silly, is there's no place for my ponytail to go... :)

daswig 10-11-2004 01:07 PM

I've been known to wear my Bergmutz backwards, but only when the bill of the cover interferes with something I'm doing. People who wear them to the side or to the back all the time strike me as looking ignorant. But what really chaps my ass are people who insist on wearing their covers INDOORS.

/humorously remembers hearing an O-4 tell a CPO to "have that man remove that washcloth from his head before he gets on my boat" when referringto a guy wearing a "Do-rag"

Coronaboy72 10-11-2004 08:21 PM

I wear glasses as well and just find it easier to have my hat on backwards when I'm active. I've worn my hat backwards ever since I was in 7th Grade and just see it something I've always done to prevent the brim from knocking my glasses off. All my friends and family know why I do this and as far as I know, I've never been told it was offensive.

Now when I was working at the factory, a few of us guys working on the line had our hats on backwards because it was easier to check the product because of poor lighting and we were forced to wear a hat or a hairnet... we chose a hat. The managers and foremen never said anything either. I think it's just a fashion statement anymore, I never wear my had off to the side or anything like that though.

My big ole butt!

My big ole butt!
Humans are the only of God's creatures smart enough to build a baseball cap...or stupid enough to wear it backwards!
So, turn your hat around right...you can't POSSIBLY be as stupid as that makes you appear! Or maybe you can.
:hmm:

StephenSa 10-12-2004 07:30 AM

I don't really understand the backwards baseball cap thing. It looks a bit silly to me and if not using it for the shade of the bill I don't see why one would wear it at all as they are not particularly becoming but to each his own. As for judging that person by the backwards cap...I don't know. I know they probably wouldn't fit in with myself or my friends but thats not neccasarily a bad thing. Everybody has different standards and live differently so who am I to tell them how to dress. Now when I see some yahoo in a reasonably nice restaurant, often with a nicely dressed date and they are wearing their ball cap inside (backwards or not) I think them a cretin and believe they should be forcibly ejected from the premises. Yes everyone has their "right" to do as they wish but there really should be some amount of civility. If you want to wear your hat inside eat at MacDonald's and no one will care. If I'm paying for the atmosphere and food of a nice restaurant or even reasonably nice restaurant then respect your fellow diners, respect your self and remove the hat. Perhaps a shower and comb before your date and you won't need the cap at all!

someguy42 10-12-2004 07:42 AM

I always wear my hat backwards, and there's 2 good reasons why.
1) I, like an earlier poster, am driven nuts when the bill of my hat bumps my glasses.
2) I look about 13 if I wear my hat forwards. Something with the way my face is shaped or something makes me look A LOT younger when my hat's forwards. I'm mid-20's, and prefer to look it, rather than looking like a teenager who smokes.

I don't know why people like you just can't let people have there own style!

If everyone wore a hat the way you wanted, what a boring world we would live in!

I just love the wonderful irony of him questioning someone's intellect while feeling the need to type it in giant red font on the internet of all places. :D

pocon1 10-13-2004 12:41 PM

I wear one hat on top of the other, with one bill forward and one backwards. This is over my do-rag. My sweatband does not fit, so I wear it around my neck.

I don't understand the point in leaving the tag on a hat, regardless of how you explain it... but as far as MY hat goes, I tilt it to the side a bit sometimes, but otherwise wear it more or less "regular".

BAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!! Thanks for a good laugh! I may have to use that one!

BTW - one of my good friends was someone I met when I was a bartender and told him that joke I reference earlier because he was wearing his cap backwards. His response at the time of course was, "I hate you. I fuckin hate you!" and then he left the bar while I laughed my ass off, but we did afterward become good friends. Here's to you Brother Gabe!!

OPgary 10-18-2004 11:20 AM

Wouldn't hire some one who wore his hat backwards without a very good reason. Likewise I wouldn't if he was wearing baggy pants or sunglasses at night. Just my opinion

izzzzy 10-18-2004 02:56 PM

backward cap style hats look okay if youre a baseball catcher. as for fashion i think those kangol hats that are desighned to be worn backward look really cool.
