Australian Child Pornography ring busted
Australian Police have smashed a massive child pornography ring this week, making over 200 arrests so far. Those involved include teachers, police officers, ministers, a priest, and the owner of three Melbourne childcare centres. Police have seized sickening images of children as young as two in bondage scenes, and babies in sexual poses. One teacher was secretly filming schoolgirls in the change room.
There are reports today that four suspects have suicided. Last night's news showed parents taking their children home from the childcare centres owned by one of the suspects, visibly distressed and shocked. Although there is no evidence any of the children at the centres were involved, it still is sickening to think those children were exposed to that potential threat. These arrests will hopefully indicate to child pornographers and pedophiles that these is completely sickening and unacceptable behaviour, and they will be caught and prosecuted. My preference would be for public castration and the word 'pedophile' tattooed on their forehead. If they are jailed, they are as good as dead, as pedophiles are not treated lightly in the slammer. This is both disturbing and exciting news. It's disgusting to think that people would commit sexual acts on these youngsters, but exciting to know that they've been busted. Kudos to the Austrailian police.

I hope all of them become somebodys bitch in prison

Let's not race to judgment here. Certainly reprehensible if true, but it's a long way from accused to convicted.
These are called Multi Victim Multi Offender cases in the US. The most famous is probabally the McMartin preschool case/trial. It was a very long trial costing a lot. There were no convictions. Implanted memories by bad techniques, no longer used, and bad medical tests, also no longer used, were said to be to blame. Despite widespread media reports and a very large reward, no pictures have ever turned up. No new cases of this type have emerged since police have changed their interviewing techniques. A google on mcmartin or Fells Acres will turn up more. |
My first reaction to this thread was about the people who have committed suicide before being brought to trial. I was going to say that I'm fine with them committing suicide. It proves they're guilty, it means we don't have to worry about spending money, time, effort, on bringing them to trial, convicting them, etc. By offing themselves they just make the rest of society's job easier.
But... But I read gcbrowni's post and I was racing to judgement. I've heard more than a couple of people say in the past that false claims of rape are actually worse than rape itself (that is, someone who lies and says they were raped are worse people than rapists themselves). Now, I don't know if I agree with that or not, but I was wondering about the people who committed suicide. I don't think their suicide is proof that they are guilty of dealing with child pornography (I'm not claiming anybody here has said they are, though). I do agree with the 'Innocent until proven guilty' thought. Allegations of pedophilia stick with you for the rest of your life. Even if a court proves you innocent, I think society ignores it and the allegations remain. I really hope that those who committed suicide over this were really guilty. If they were indeed innocent, but did it because they thought/knew that society would never listen to an innocent verdict, then I feel terribly sorry for them. |
suicided???
What the fuck... They can't just write out "commited suicide"? Lazy ass journalists. |

Rlyss...that's a valid point, and we may never know the full facts. Many of the suspects were married fathers with children of their own, so perhaps just being implicated in this scandal (and not yet formally prosecuted) was cause enough for them to take their own lives.
And sadistikdreams...holy fuck, I though I was a pedant!! |
Send them on down here to TEXAS...
Like I said before, Buba is going through "girl friends" like crazy up there in Huntsville... |
Fuck them. I may very well be jumping to conclusions but these people are gone. I find it only unfortunate that if convicted these people will not be put in general population. We don't put pedophiles in with the normal cons, more's the pity...

Your attitude is very prevalent when this topic comes up. I really wonder why ppl like yourself don't petition or lobby for the death penalty for convicted molesters. If you put them in GP that's what would happen, tho I don't understand why felons in prison think they have any standard of judgement against other criminals. The fact that the death penalty isn't ascribed for these crimes means society is willing punish those who are convicted but they are giving them a chance to reform and be released. I wholeheartedly agree those who are convicted of molestation/rape should be punished as harshly as the law allows, but if the law doesn't have the death penalty, then these criminals shouldn't be put to death. It's not the job of "bubba" or "Spike The Killer" to kill ppl in prison or fuck them up the ass till they bleed. It's the job of the state to remove this person from life if the law has determined that punishment fits the crime. This is to protect the possibly "innocent man" that rarely gets a bad rap and to attempt to give the guilty offender a chance to refrain from his activity and reform him/herself. What you are advocating is strikingly similar to lynchings of black ppl in the old days. Regular ppl today wouldn't think a black man had to removed from life for screwing a white woman, but back then he'd be hung from the highest tree for it. Black ppl didn't get a trial 9 out of 10 times; it was strictly vigilante and mob morality. If you don't think the law is hard enough on molesters/ rapists then get up and lobby to get the laws changed. I'm sure you could get quite a few signatures if you tried hard and long enough. None of us really know anything about the cases of the arrested individuals. I'm sure a good many of them will be found guilty of their crimes. But they shouldn't be put to death just because they did something morally reprehensible. Shit, even Saddham Hussein is getting a trial. So why can't a guy with some horrible images who most likely never actually molested anyone get a trial and fair but harsh punishment if a murdering dictator and oppressor of an entire country can get one? |
