Calling all gamblers

Where do you play? What do you play? Tell me a story about you playing.

I play in Laughlin and Las Vegas primarily every once in awhile I'll play at Pechanga or Morongo. I like to play everything, but mostly play blackjack and video poker. I am finding myself addicted to texas hold'em and play alot online for play money. My next trip to Nevada I'm going to play some poker tournaments and see what happens.

I spent my adolescent years living in Laughlin until I was about 20 my mom still lives there. When I was about 18 my bowling league went to Vegas. That's when I learned to play Pai Gow Poker. My cousing and I sat down with about $60 between us and the dealers showed us how to play. Well after about 11 hours and who knows how many beers and screwdrivers later I had $1100 and my cousin had about $500. We never even got carded through 2 shifts.

I used to play a lot at the Vegas Hilton. Sam's was cool, Arizona Charley's, the Stations all very nice for serious playing. The tourist hotels seemed just that to me when I lived there and they didn't seem to want serious players as much.

I wish you luck wherever you play, just be careful. I lost 1.3 million in a matter of 13 years, before I hit rock bottom and realized I had destroyed my life because of a gambling addiction. Just be careful and play wisely.

I don't envy many people in life, but I do envy those who can play and stop, because I know I can't. And trust me I loved to gamble learning I never could again or I would destroy my rebuilt life was one of the hardest things I ever dealt with, and some days it still is.

Again, luck be with you and be a George, the dealers live on tips.

I'll play where ever I can get a game :D I love to roll the dice at a crap table. A table with a lot of action and loud people is the best.

Black jack is okay but you get a lot of ass hats at those tables that like to think they are betting 50 g's so they complain when somone showing an ace hits when the dealer has a five. Big f-ing deal. Play your cards and shut the fuck up.

One of the best things to do for fun at a crap table is to bet a hard 6 or 8 (pair of 3's or 4's) for a dollar. Then let it ride when it hits. Then let it ride again when it hits. Then let it ride a third time when it hits. I've turned a single buck into $1000 probably five or six times. It's hilarious to watch the looks on peoples faces. It's a DOLLAR!!! Let it ride...that's why they call it gambling.

The most recent place I visited was the Borgata in Atlantic City. Holy fucking crap was that place super nice for Atlantic City. The dealers were all fabulously nice, helpful, and courteous which you don't always find in A.C. It's off the strip so you don't get the hookers and other swill like you find at the Tropicana (aka SLOPY-cana). The Borgata will be my new destination of choice when I'm on the east coast.

Love to roll the dice....:D

Edit > I forgot to mention that the waitresses all wear the skimpiest of outfits with heavy duty push up fronts. They could pretty much down to the ugliest of them be lingerie models. AWESOME but distracting if you a placing wagers ;)

I'd like to start getting into some house games of poker. I don't know anyone around me who plays, but I'd be willing to ante up once a week. I've played my friends a few times. Nothing substantial. 5-card draw is slow and boring to me and I end up getting impatient. Texas hold 'em is all the rage nowadays, but I do real well.

crfpilot 09-07-2004 03:46 PM

Wow, interesting story pan, I used to have a problem but I am much more responsible now. Anyone else? 20 something thousand members and only 4 gamblers?

animosity 09-07-2004 04:28 PM

I play on-line texas hold 'em, or at least I used too. I try to have a house game every weekend but most of my friends are dead broke and I end up fronting most of my own winnings, leaving them in debt & myself still broke.

I'm trying to get a game together this weekend. (no limit texas hold 'em tournament, 10$ buy in.)

redlighttaxi 09-07-2004 04:43 PM

I love poker. Texas holdem and 7 card. I just played a whole bunch with my buddies over the weekend. I don't mean to boast but I won all the chips about 4 times. Ah, if only we were playing with real money.

bet on-line nfl football addicted....high dollar black jack table as long as you can afford to stay in...and poker...

OFKU0 09-07-2004 07:18 PM

Hockey is my ace in the hole. Damn strike. Better end before Xmas or else no money for golf down south in the middle of winter.

I love a good game of poker. Haven't had one in a few years though. Where I used to live we'd have one every week and play dealers choice. Nothing too serious since we were all students, but the stakes got up there on occasion. We'd mostly play Texas Hold em, some high Chicago, Guts, whatever else the dealer choose. Was good fun.

I'll also hit up the blackjack tables sometimes. Last time I was in Vegas I won spending enough to pay for most of my expenses but usually I'm happy just getting out even. My Uncle lives in Vegas now and does really well with some counting, he's tried to teach me but I don't have the time to take that too seriously at the moment.

craps....

and I'm going to make you want to come to my table and bet... i'm looking to ride the wave of some lucky shooter. :)

The night I learned how to play craps the guy who taught me I watched make over $2,000 in about 30 minutes betting come bets, odds and doubles. He taught me very well and very conservative play. I made some good money that night, I ended up having to stop playing because they announced a young boy being lost for about 30 minutes paging for the parents, and I on the off chance when to see if perhaps it was my young cousin who had a habit of wandering off from his folks. Sure enough it was him and I had to leave the pit for a good 45 minutes. He had left his parents room looking for grandpa's room and when the door shut behind him locking him out, he also didn't recognize which door was grandpas and once leaving his door coudln't remember which one he came out of. He wandered down the elevator where some cleaning lady brought him to security. Upon my return my chips were still there but the teacher had disappeared. I continued to play but then decided to save some for tomorrow and went up for the night.

Texas Holdem with a group of buddies is best. I would never do it at a card house or casino, personally. Shit gets serious in those places. People can get pretty hot. No need for that kind of tension. The money can be a lot better, of course, but I prefer the camaraderie.

As you can see from my location, I'm in gambling Mecca. I generally don't enjoy gambling. But I enjoy winning and I enjoy free drinks. My stake is almost never over $40, so my game changes depending on why I'm playing.

If I'm playing to win, it's usually dollar slots. The house take is almost always below 5%, so the odds of winning are just as good as a table game (sometimes better). I pop in my money, and set my limits at 100%. If I ever get up or down 100%, I walk away. This is my way for beating the "theory of ruin." (I'll be happy to explain the theory for those unfamiliar with it.) On those slots, it generally doesn't matter where you play because the payouts are all the same.

If I'm playing for drinks, which is most of the time, I prefer low limit table games where my money can sit out there for a while. Quarter craps is the best, but quarter roulette will also do. These games I try to play where the cocktail service is best. On the strip, you can't beat Imperial Palace for the combination of speed and beauty. Off the strip, my favorite place is called the Jokers Wild. There is a cocktail waitress there named Ladonna who is freakin' gorgeous. And she bring the drinks like lightning. Just be sure to tip at least $1-2 per drink.

im a bookie, does that count?

World's King 09-08-2004 02:52 PM

I don't play a lot but when I do I have a few friends that get together with a few cases of PBR and a deck of cards. Texas Hold 'Em. That's the only game worth losin' money for.

HockeyGuy 09-08-2004 02:57 PM

I'd like to get into a little poker but don't know anyone round here that plays. Fruit Machines in the pubs every now and then though! QUITE easy to lose that money there though!

stonegrody 09-08-2004 03:00 PM

I've been playing Texas Hold'em lately with friends. I do love to play craps in Las Vegas. I don't have a complete understanding of the game yet but I know enough to have a good time. I play for fun, sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. Can't beat the free drinks. I usually like to play at New York New York but I think I will take Coach's recommend and try Imperial Palace next time. And yes, please don't forget to tip your dealers and waitresses.

I mostly bet NFL and college football on line with a sportsbook. I luv it! I use to play bingo alot years ago and did quite well. Hit 10k twice on the machines, but think i gave most of it back over the years, never won again. I did hit one great jackpot, i met my wife at bingo.

Hey Slimcr? Any way you could post in the sports topic what games you are getting hammered on once in awhile? Thanks

Ralvek 09-08-2004 07:32 PM

I'm a Vegasaholic, can't get enough! I also have a regular hold 'em night at my place.
