Neat Stuff
 

A while back, I was walking through Wal-Mart (yes, I know), and I just happened to stumble across a neat little clay disk that, when soaked with water, could be put in your brown sugar container to soften it. It just happened that, back at home, I had a container of hard cystallized rock candy, and when I placed in this disk, I ended up with soft brown sugar. I thought, neato.

While watching TV at my Dad's place the other night, I saw this commercial for Liquid Lense. Basically, it's a polymer that you apply to your scratched glasses. Normally, I don't go for those 'As Seen on TV' products, but I couldn't help but think that would be great for removing that effing scratch across my hockey visor.

And finally, while I was in the Canada forum, Xavier_cross31 asked a question about ultraviolet markers. I'll admit, the very concept of such a thing never dawned on me, but now that I know these markers exist, I can think of a million uses for them.

So, I'm kind of interested in hearing what other neat little things people have found. I'm talking about the things you never really know exist until you happen to stumble upon them, or someone tells you about them. I'm hoping to hear about other things that I can say, "Yeah, I could use one of those".

My glasses are scratched like hell so I never wear them. They were like $500 and I really don't want to kick down again. Doe the Liquid Lense work? Since I saw it on an infomercial, I naturally assumed it was Shiat, but then again it is cheap. My wife makes fun of me when I chase "bait" like Liquid lense and so I am curious to know if it actually works.

I really wish I could tell you. I just saw it last weekend, so I haven't gotten around to ordering it, but it was probably the very first "As Seen on TV" thing that's ever caught my attention. I've decided that $20 isn't that much to risk ending up looking like a 'duped' buyer, so I'll let you know when I get it.

oh!!! i wanna know how that Liquid Lense works, too. never have seen the commercial for this.

my new patio door got scratched to hell by remodel workers... *groan*
i'm thinking LL could be my miraculous remedy... i can hope!

the last neat thing i bought was some kitchen shears. nothing exactly new, but totally new to me.
funny thing was i was chopping all these veggies the next day & midway it dawned on me that i'd bought those the night before.
omg how much easier the chore is when you can you scissors!

I have a clip-on-the visor eyeglass holder....kind of hard to explain, but it snaps over the folded temples of your glasses-one hand unsnaps it, I exchange my regular glasses for the sunglasses and snap'em back in. I love it! Got it in a carshow grab bag-it was a big hit!

If that liquid lens stuff works, I'd love to know if it can restore CD's. I have two irreplacable CD's that are scratched to hell (won't play due to skipping) by a crappy CD case, and a bunch of others that I don't really want to have to buy again.

for cds if the bottom is scratched enough. use a skip doctor cd fixer. It works great for all the cds that the bottom is screwed.
Theres a chance that the top reflective/data part of your discs got damaged which would make then unfixable :(

I went to a job fair once, and in the gift bags they had high-lighters (hi-liters?). This one was in the shape of a triangle and each corner was a different color (yellow, green and pink). It's not at all uncomfortable to use and you get a choice of all three colors. I thought it was rather nifty!

You know that adhesive residue that stays behind when you remove a price tag sticker from something?

A few years back, I got this spray bottle of citrus acid stuff that removes the residue completely. That's pretty good.

Don't remember seeing it on TV though.

for each "product" or invention there is a simpler fix.


last night i needed sugar and the brown sugar was hard as a rock. 45 seconds in the microwave softened it right up.

defrosting meats really fast? put them onto a cookie sheet.

so far that's 19.99 for 2 different products...

I used to roll up paper towels, wet them, and put them into the container, but it was messy. Any part of the brown sugar that touched the towels would mix with the water, and turn into hard white sugar that had to be thrown out.

So, the concept of the little clay disk wasn't exactly foreign to me. I just thought it was neat that someone had put that concept into disk form. Less sugar comes into contact with the disk, so less sugar is thrown out.

just an FYI, but WD40 works INCREDIBLY well for removing that gunk stuff. I tried citrus stuff, "Goo Gone" and it works great, but WD40 is cheaper and works just as well. Doesn't smell as good

Yes, it usually does. Sometimes though, it can stain something that Goo Gone won't damage.

Goo Gone works for that as well.

EDIT: Oops, I see I was scooped on Goo Gone. It is fabulous stuff!

i haven't had staining problems with wd40 yet, but i'm sure that certain surfaces can be harmed by it

you can also use an orange peel...seriously

Funny Goo Gone story (though wether it was the real Goo Gone or a facimile, I'll never know).

I used to work at Toys R Us. at one point we were revaming the way we did price lables. So they had a bunch of us working on using some goo gone stuff to all the metal shelves. It smelled like goo gone so much in that place, and as most people know, sniffing solvents can give a mild high.

I swear, the entire store was buzzed one time. :)

Fun times.

Then they switched the Goo Gone for something else; they said Goo Gone was to powerful to use in such an enclosed space.
