Who is your favorite criminal?

There has been plenty of egregious and suprising criminals out there, some genius's and others just plain old dumb. But what would be your favorite criminal or criminal act? Name one that just makes you laugh, or one that you even look at in aw, it's all up to you just let us know. Personally i'm not really sure who to say right now, but i'll get back to you guys soon.

j0hnb 06-10-2004 06:41 AM

Personally I just think Billie Jo Hawks is a funny one. If you're are guy and going to spend 6 years in prison you might as well try to spend those six years in the womens side. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/bjhawks1.html
After eight months of time in the womens section they finally find out that he's actually a guy. That one just makes me laugh.

None

Mephisto2 06-10-2004 08:08 AM

I have to agree with tecoyah.

And, though I may sound rather sanctimonious, criminals are not worth my respect. That is, of course, unless they have successfully rehabilitated themselves, in which case I admire them, in a certain kind of way.

Mr Mephisto

j0hnb 06-10-2004 08:23 AM

This isn't ment to be giving them respect. I've worked in and around the law for 5 years now, and i've developed kind of an other way of looking at them. Criminals are all around you, at all times, your brother, the guy that sits next to you in the office, almost everyone has done something that could be considered criminal, and some have pulled off some amaizing feets. They've stolen things that no would believe could be stolen, they have hacked systems that are unhackable, all could be considered criminals. I stated it wrong when I was first making this post, I mean, ones that you are more or less suprised on how they did it, or how it turned out. Does anyone else get what I am saying or am I alone on this one?

tropple 06-10-2004 08:32 AM

Willie Sutton

Raw Kuts 06-10-2004 08:34 AM

By far Kevin Mitnick. Now that's one great social engineer.

j0hnb 06-10-2004 08:36 AM

Who's Willie Sutton?

tecoyah 06-10-2004 08:43 AM

Ohhh....now I get it....George W. Bush, he has managed to get away with so much, and nobody seems to care, or even notice.

Ha, I didn't even think about George Bush. Yea, sorry about the wording of the first post. It was way too early in the morning for me to be making any kind of sense, let alone post a message that anyone could understand.

MSD 06-10-2004 09:26 AM

Kevin Mitnick.

OFKU0 06-10-2004 09:43 AM

Robin Hood for stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Or perhaps a philanthropist of no personal means.

fhqwhgads 06-10-2004 11:54 AM

The guy from thesmokinggun.com that looks like Beavis has always been a personal favorite of mine.

Me.

BlueBongo 06-10-2004 01:51 PM

Hrmmm... I think that the criminals I find the most interesting are Jack the Ripper and Ed Gein. I am studying Forensic science and have been around the justice system for a while too...

These acts just make me think and ponder many things. But oddly I am in a sort of "awe" of these criminals.

There are more.... but those two top my list.

pan6467 06-10-2004 01:54 PM

The man who was a genius and could have run any Fortune 500 company with massive profits had he been legit., MR ALPHONSE CAPONE.

Having read books about the man, he was a sheer business genius. If he had been legit, there is no doubt in my mind he would have been the 20's Bill Gates.
He had his close net, but he built his empire pretty much on his own.

Lucky Lucciano was close, but he had Lansky and the boys helping him. Lucky was just smart enough to set up "Da Commision" and give the bosses their own territories to stop the wars.

Redgirl 06-10-2004 02:03 PM

I am always fascinated by the ones that get away. BTK for instance just turned back up and is baffling everyone again. I'm from Wichita, KS and he's the quintessential boogeyman there.

In case you don't know, BTK stands for bind, torture, kill. He killed a whole family and has now taken credit for another later unsolved murder. They don't even know for sure that it's a single person, could have been more.

Ed Gein is a good one, he's the one they loosely based the movie TCM on, right?

OFKU0 06-10-2004 02:10 PM

Ted Bundy only because so many had stated that he was an up and comer, someone who could shmooze in any tax bracket and was very much liked and respected by his peers.

Tophat665 06-10-2004 02:40 PM

Carl Rove. The mastermind of the Bush Gang.

Actually, in all seriousness, Black Bart must be may favorite.

Per <i>Great American Eccentrics</i>:

Quote:

Bart has been aptly described by his biographers as a great walker. There were not many stagecoach robbers who operated sans horse...

True, he often carried a shotgun (when he didn't just fake a weapon with a stick from a manzanita bush), but he would nnever dream of loading it. And, true to his own code, he never took any money from the stagecoach driver or passengers. The Wells Fargo box was all he wanted before sending the coach on its way. On the spot, Bart would smash open the treasure box, wrap it's gold in his pack, and trek off. In a short time the law would be at the scene of the crime. They would ride off hard following likely horse tracks. Bart was shrewd enough to pick spots with fresh hoofprints, to oblige the law as much as he could.

Jesus.

While I'm not sure if I agree 100% with his religion, that dude was one hell of a rabble rouser.

I was always intrigued by the D.B. Cooper story.
http://www.super70s.com/Super70s/New...-DB_Cooper.asp
Here's a small quote from the Super70's site:
Quote:

D.B. Cooper's Disappearing Act
By Patrick Mondout

On November 24, 1971, Dan Cooper boarded a Northwest Orient Airlines flight from Portland to Seattle, demanded and received a $200,000 ransom, and on the return flight he parachuted into the forest and has never been seen again. The disappearance of Dan "D.B." Cooper is one of the great unsolved mysteries of the 20th century.

.....Perhaps it's because he seems to have gotten away with it. Perhaps it's because he didn't injure any of his hostages. Perhaps it's because he disappeared off the the face of the Earth with the FBI in hot pursuit. Perhaps it's because the only visible loser was an insurance company. Whatever the reason, D.B. Cooper's cult status lives on.
There's a whole story in between if you care to read it.

i am simply amazed by any serial killer. first of all, how a person could commit such atrocious acts just bogles my mind. and the fact that they get away with killing so many people. and what's even more scary is that many of them led normal lives and seemed like normal people! i guess the one that mysticizes me the most is the Zodiac killer. the fact that he was never found, and that he kept regular communication with the media is completely bewildering.

Vlad the Impaler.
He's not a criminal.
He just plain kicks ass.

I'd say he stabs the ass. Just saying.

As for my vote, I do NOT admire him, or respect him, but I've always been completely awed by John Wayne Gacy. That is one truly sick man, beyond most all others. He scares the shit out of me.

And I think that Charles Manson was a genius. A sick twisted brutal genius, but a genius. He always scared the shit out of me too.

I hate those fuckers.

SabrinaFair 06-10-2004 09:01 PM

I have macrbe fascinations with criminals...but I don't admire them. I just assist in the prosecution of them, and go home and watch A&E specials about them.

Scipio 06-10-2004 09:51 PM

I'm gonna have to go with "the juice."

glasscutter43 06-10-2004 10:28 PM

Me

Who ever said "crime doesn't pay" obviously got caught.

Fire 06-10-2004 11:06 PM

tend to agree with the D.B. Cooper thing- criminals who hurt people just anger me- but there is a guy that did it right- same on black bart- something about the little guy that steps up and says "fuck the system, I'm taking what I want" and only attacks the system, without hurting innocents beyond inconveniencing them...

skier 06-10-2004 11:13 PM

The kind that doesn't get caught- but i'm talking just financial crimes, not of violence.

I like the ones sitting in jail, talking about how great they were, and stabbing each other for drugs and male ass.

i think the clown thing Gacy had happening was a nice touch.
