Post Your Wristwatches

I'm in the market for a wristwatch. Preferably something dressy, but not necessarily. I don't really know what I'm looking for, but I was hoping I could get some ideas here. I guess a picture and a description (make, model, caliber, etc) would be nice. Thanks! (I hope this thread doesn't get lost and bumped down to page 3 within a day.)

brandon11983 06-06-2004 09:09 PM

I have a Swatch Rainstorm. I've had it for about 9 months or so, and it still looks like the day I bought it. It's nothing super special, but I love it.
http://thestore.swatch.com/swatch/im...SVCN4000AG.jpg

If I had the green for one, I'd get a TAG Heuer. I like this one in particular.

amonkie 06-07-2004 12:41 AM

Don't think my watch will do you much good function wise unless you've got a hearing aid, but I think it's soo cool so I thought I'd share :)

From Phonak, a Swiss hearing aid company, the watch retails for $500 and includes remote control features for my hearing aid. I've got the ladies model on the left.

I own the swatch skin, "rubber dub".
I bought it without really needing a watch, I just thought it was so cool, so I layed down the 95 bucks and took it home. I have worn it everday since. I don't have huge wrists, so this watch fits well. It is so light, that I dont really even know that it is on.

This is my Watch. It is a Citizen Eco-Drive. It is solar powered, and is made of titanium. It is a lot light than a regular steel watch. It also has a rotating bezel.

My other watch is an Omega that is about 40 years old. It was given to me by a personal training client who bought it new in Switzerland. It has a steel case, but the bezel and lugs are coated with rose gold. The face is not cleaned, but the plastic cover face was replaced. It also is a kinetic wind watch which amazingly still works. I believe it is a 17 jewel movement, and it is beautiful inside.

LewisCouch 06-07-2004 05:19 PM

This is one of my casually elegant watches. It is a Xemex, part of the Offroad collection.

Here's mine.. got as a 21st birthday present from the folks (retails for around 300 USD, I think), and had it for over a year now. This is the first, and hopefully last "real" watch I own. I love it.

You can beat a man to death with it, and it will not suffer a scratch! It does not need rewinding or changes of battery - it charges from solar power. It has other nifty features too, like seeing the time in different time zones, date, day of the week, timer/stopwatch, alarm, etc.

What is cool about this watch is that it bends around the wristbone, and the display is angled so that you don't have to bend your wrist to read the display "straight on". Lefties need not apply, however.

The luminous hands are pretty sensitive to light, and last for a while. Solar powered, and "never" needs a battery change. Should be at least 15 years for a battery change, but it's better to have it serviced every few years or so. The only annoying thing is I can't turn off the chronograph beeps and the alarm isn't nearly loud enough to wake me up.

It's subtle... It's thought that watches that display a time such that their hands resemble an upwards angle (think: a smiley face) are considered more attractive than others..

My cheap fossil:

http://image.www.rakuten.co.jp/038ne...046658778.jpeg

Hard8s 01-16-2005 11:54 PM

yeah 10:10 is a standard. I read about it somewhere but can not remember where. Its kind of like the 555-XXXX numbers in the movies.

Did a search and came up with this:

First of all, the 10:10 position does not block out the watch company’s name or logo. In this position the hands act as a frame for the name or logo.

Some watches have the model name or some lettering such as the chronometer rating at the bottom section of the dial. There are watches that have a subdial for the seconds hand at the 6:00 o’clock position and indicating the time as 10:10 does not interfere with any of these.

Some companies have started using 10:08 or 10:12 as the time shown on the watch in their ads. This stops the longer minute hand from blocking out the numeral or marker at the 2:00 o’clock position.

On a chronograph with subdials at 3:00 o'clock and/or 9:00 o'clock 5:08 or 6:53 may be used to frame one of the subdials without blocking the watch company's name or logo.

In addition, when the hands are in the 10:10 position they form a “smiley” face instead of a “frown” that would be portrayed if the time is set at 8:20.

Dude, you and I had the same watch.

I loved that thing.

Didn't lose it, it was ripped off my wrist as I fell out of a boat. It sunk to the bottom of the lake. The strap was weak, because I had it for so long. The cost difference is about $150 (stopwatch is more expensive of course). I'm leaning towards the latter watch due to cost, the fact I never use a stopwatch, and the I like the colors. It's really hard to find these in the US though.
