Kazaa....Do you share?

I share my files, but i've set a limit on upload bandwidth and set it to only 2 uploads at a time.

And i got all my files (mainly porno movies) on sharing.

Btw, i also cut off people that try to download off of me that doesnt share any files.

TaLoN 05-08-2003 07:03 PM

i share when i can, but sometimes (im sure this is true for a lot of people) i am on a connection that does not allow outside users to connect to. These people don't have the option to share, so i don't bother checking to see if they share or not.

Mongolguy 05-08-2003 07:04 PM

I share about 1200 files, mostly mp3's and books.
I share with anyone, even if they don't share. Don't hurt a bit.

arael 05-08-2003 07:07 PM

Who doesn't these days?

sixate 05-08-2003 07:07 PM

I share about 60 gigs of porn, music, and other stuff.
I don't care if other people don't share. They have their reasons.
I only allow 2 uploads.

BulletBob 05-08-2003 07:22 PM

I share all of my music and videos, most of the porn i download from kazaa gets deleted after used though.

SecretMethod70 05-08-2003 07:36 PM

With Kazaa, I share but only allow 1 download at a time at a max speed of 1K/s (yeah yeah, I don't feel like drawing attention to myself on my school's connection)

Reason that's so low is because with K++ I don't have to worry about my rating.

With eMule I am much more liberal in my sharing - high limit on number of downloads and total bandwidth of something like 500K/s - this helps keep my eMule rating a good one with many people.

That seems to be how it is for me as well. I share all my mp3s and movies, but people try to download it and can't. Must have something to do with my router...

MSD 05-08-2003 07:54 PM

24.7GB in 2059 files, no porn. 3 uploads at once, 128kb/s max per person.

ARTelevision 05-08-2003 08:04 PM

no - I avoid P2P.
I don't listen to mp3 music, don't watch movie files, I don't download porn, and I have the software I need.
I can think of only one file I've downloaded from a P2P app in the last 6 months. I've never used it since I downloaded it anyway.

SexyCat 05-08-2003 08:06 PM

I share about 12 gigs of miscellaneous stuff, but limit the number of uploads I allow.

Spungfoo 05-08-2003 08:08 PM

Always. If I'm using other's people's bandwidth they should be able to use mine; it's only fair. As of right now I'm sharing around 25 gigs of mp3's. I usually allow 5 people to download from me at a time - what I usually do is queue up a bunch of stuff before I go to sleep and let it download overnight, that way my bandwidth isn't being taken up when I need it.

Stilts 05-08-2003 08:13 PM

I'm sharing about 128 gigs right now. Allow 2 uploads at the same time, no speed cap, but my cable isn't the fastest for uploads anyhow, think it's either 128, or 256. I had another 15 gigs of movies that was also shared, but I lost that when one of my drives went out.

JStrider 05-08-2003 09:28 PM

well my school started cracking down on peer 2 peer stuff and if you upload theyll catch you... so i dont upload at all... before they started doing this i had it set to 2 uploads with a 50kbps max on uploading...

degrawj 05-09-2003 12:15 AM

i don't share many of my mp3s, but i share tons of videos and other stuff. most of the files i have though are hard to find, which is why i share them. i try to be nice. :-)

Reese 05-09-2003 12:30 AM

I'm on a 56k, I still share but limit uploads to 2 users and 1kb each.

eyeronic 05-09-2003 01:25 AM

I set it to go and then share whatever I download that session until i move it to other folders for organization. I'm paranoid about getting busted if 'm sharing too many files. Didn't anyone else hear about those three college kids?

alpha 05-09-2003 01:35 AM

I don't use Kazaa. DC++.

Unknown Poster 05-09-2003 02:03 AM

I share a bunch of mp3's, and a couple movies(non-porn).

Magpie0001 05-09-2003 02:49 AM

I share whatever I have, 1 D-Load at a time.

"Your mother was right, It is good to share"

SiN 05-09-2003 03:02 AM

hm..if i do share, it's just what i've d/l from Kazaa (which isnt much, and if its worth keeping it usually gets moved shortly after d/l)
i'd allow 1 upload, at a slow speed...just don't have the bandwidth, and most of the upload usually goes to eMule.

Golux 05-09-2003 03:15 AM

I share... but I only share my darkwave/industrial/synthpop mp3's over 10 gigs of it. I don't share anything else.. the stuff that I have is hard to get and usually only available through import so anyone who wants it I want to give it to them. Fortunately because it's so unpopular, it doesn't really hog my bandwidth, but I get constant messages from people begging me to stay on so that they can finish getting the stuff that I have because it is hard to find... so it makes me feel good in my little pir8 puppie way!

DEI37 05-09-2003 04:03 AM

It's limited bandwidth and total uploads, but I share. Also share on WinMX.

suviko 05-09-2003 04:14 AM

-

Roark 05-09-2003 06:13 AM

I don't share but only because i'm on dialup. Don't really download much anymore either though, i'm pretty much where I want to be as far as music.

Jesus Pimp 05-09-2003 07:03 AM

I'm on cable and don't share. Why would I want people using my upload bandwith? :D

shalafi 05-09-2003 07:18 AM

i share but at work i only allow 1 upload because our stupid wireless internet sucks. god i wish they would get us a real connection

billege 05-09-2003 08:53 AM

Somehow I've missed the attraction of P2P. I can never find anything worth having. The content is just not there. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I never find better than the shit, two second porn clips, and I rarely find the music I'd like to try.

Cynthetiq 05-09-2003 09:00 AM

i don't use p2p.. only FTP for me.

MikeyChalupa 05-09-2003 10:37 AM

I share, but on WinMX. I went to WinMX when Napster died. I tried Kazaa and loved it, most of my library came from there. But I left when it became evil, with the spyware and all. WinMX is still the best, IMHO.

Since 11/10/2000, I have amassed 2300 mp3's. I share them freely.

I don't share or download movies. I do have some video clips, mostly SNL bits and commericals, or other silly stuff. The only long-ish videos I have are Thumb Wars and the first episode of Invader Zim.

-Mikey

BoCo 05-09-2003 10:47 AM

I share, but only while I'm also using the program to download. When I'm finished downloading, you better be finished uploading or it's tuff shit for you.

Also, the only files I share are a few programs that I had trouble finding, so I figured others might have trouble finding them, too.

CSflim 05-09-2003 02:15 PM

I'm on a 56K. It a real pain in the ass, so I don't usually share, and I'm pretty ashamed of it! But in fairness, its not really viable given the fact that each Kbps of bandwidth is vital.

Sun Tzu 05-09-2003 02:57 PM

I've had problems in Kazaa and even the claimed spyware-free Kazaa-lite. imesh is full of viruses. Does anyone know a safe trading site?

meanSpleen 05-09-2003 03:01 PM

I share everything all the time... that I actually use kazaa. I have it installed, but I only use it about once a month just to find ONE song. Everything is uncapped, so if you can download all my mp3's in that brief 5-10 minutes that I am using kazaa, be my guest. Otherwise, its not even turned on.

In soulseek, I have 2 uploads, and a cap of 15kbs. I prefer soulseek and use it more often because I prefer albums ripped from the same source. You are more likely to achieve this with soulseek.

The_Dude 05-09-2003 03:13 PM

y'all really should try kazaa lite, its kazaa w/o spyware.

Joe Fnord 05-09-2003 05:53 PM

Yep. Got a couple hundred MP3s I share (about 50/50 split of ones I ripped myself and ones I "found"). However, my music tastes are pretty odd, so I don't get many downloaders. *shrug*

monster 05-09-2003 06:56 PM

i don't share. i'm too lazy to punch a hole in my firewall

Holy crap! I just installed SoulSeek and it kicks ass! Thanks Spleen. (and thanks Hal for telling Spleen about it)

And I'm like Spleen when it comes to sharing. :)

bundy 05-09-2003 07:15 PM

i only share in Kazaa Lite.

i share music, porn and software.

lt1s10 05-09-2003 07:31 PM

I'll cue up what I'm looking for and while I download I upload. After that it's off until I need it again. I don't use it as a primary source so I don't upload very much of the 30 gigs that is shared while I'm using it.

yournamehere 05-09-2003 09:46 PM

All my mp3s are at work (I don't have a CD burner at home - yet), and I share all those, but due to bosses and the wife, all porn vids get zipped and renamed, so nobody accidentally opens one. Most of the porn I DL at home gets deleted - I've become so jaded that I'm extremely picky what I keep. So - I share at work - don't share at home.

guthmund 05-09-2003 11:52 PM

I try to be nice.

I only download using Kazaa about once a week, and that's if I'm looking for the hard to get stuff or just want it right now.

When my download is done, if I'm uploading I'll let it run, otherwise I shut it down.

-=BT=- 05-10-2003 01:40 AM

I share stuff... I have about 4 thousand mp3s and a few other bits and bobs that I like to share.

Unfortunately I have to limit the no. of uploads to 1 and the bandwidth to 24kbps because otherwise my connection gets annihilated.

DoomzDayz 05-10-2003 02:19 AM

If im downloading a lot, i limit my upload because it affects my d/l speed, but most of the time i dont care and just share my files and go to sleep.

JackBlack 05-10-2003 03:28 AM

I share all my mp3files, but no movies

jets 05-10-2003 04:46 AM

P2P is like stone ages to me.

Spanky Johnson 05-10-2003 05:11 AM

No, I don't user Kazaa or any other P2P program. I've tried a few, and shared when I did, but generally found that I got less out of it than people were getting from me. Also, with the renewed legal focus on the end users of P2P programs, I don't feel like being used as a test case by the RIAA or MPAA. Granted, the possibility is slim, but it's there.

YzermanS19 05-10-2003 06:24 AM

1029 files, all being shared, all the time. No limit on uploads either.

Gotta use the t3 for good ;)

Oh, yeah, Kazaa Lite here. No spyware I dont need.

deportes 05-10-2003 07:08 AM

whats the difference between Kazaa Lite and Kazaa? Also looking for Belly dancing videos, anyone knows where to find downloadable free videos? Thanks.

aswedc 05-10-2003 09:59 AM

Only 3 uploads at a time...my 30kb/sec cable upsteam gets used up fast...

apetaster 05-10-2003 02:14 PM

KL also. I share whatever I have on the hard drive, which can be buttloads or less than 5 files depending on when the last time I archived was

Poll: don't know how, so No I guess

KBilly 05-13-2003 12:35 PM

When I'm on Kazaa, I share with 2 upload spots. But I'm usually on e-Mule. I share a lot more on that.

Macheath 05-13-2003 01:41 PM

I mostly use Kazaa lite for rarer music that I can't find in a record store. If I have huge difficulty finding a mp3 track, I'll try to download it and then make a point of sharing it because of its rarity.

I like to share a modest selection of stuff that is representative of my tastes. It's not useful for me to share a huge library being far away from the US with only a dialup modem.

SysteMatiC 05-13-2003 02:37 PM

i use grokster but i do share what i have

madsenj37 05-13-2003 11:48 PM

I only share freeware programs I download.

txd 05-14-2003 06:40 AM

While I don't use kazaa I do make sure I share files on bittorrent and edonkey as often as I can.

snowace56 05-14-2003 10:18 AM

I share, I just have a limit of 1 upload at a time, and I don't use Kazaa, cause Kazaa is satan, and allows hackers to get into your pc.

VeXteR 05-14-2003 10:25 AM

Im sharing about 100 gigs of movies, mp3s, files, pr0n.. I limit to 2 uploads/20kbs. I block anyone thats not sharing. And I use kazaalite, but learning this DC++ stuff. I keep all these apps running on the other PC.

When I land a better job I will go back to usenet for all my data needs....

ND_Ranger 05-14-2003 10:56 AM

I share about 25 gigs. Most of it is Buffy the Vampire Slayer rips. I only have two upload slots and I've limited the bandwidth to 64 kB upload on that port.

danjo328 05-14-2003 04:27 PM

I share my porn, but my mp3's are on a different computer on our network

cowudders14 07-06-2003 12:50 PM

I share all my mp3's and my porn pics. limit uploads to 2 people at a time, 32kb/sec, kazaalite. I leave it running pretty much all the time, except when I'm downloading other stuff from websites, when I want my bandwidth back! I'm on 150kb/sec (eqiv 16KB/sec) so I need to kll it from time to time.

papermachesatan 07-06-2003 01:18 PM

I have it set to not sharing. I share a connection with multiple pcs in my house and allowing people to upload hogs all the bandwidth in my house. I have to be very careful about when I download for that matter.

Quant 07-06-2003 02:57 PM

I share when I'm on, but I don't leave it on ... it kills my computer! Also, I have some folders that I haven't shared yet, and when I move mp3's in particular to their "filed" location, they stop being shared. I'll fix that eventually...

The Atomic Boy 07-06-2003 03:11 PM

I voted yes even though Im a bitch sharing on Kazaa because I am only on it for a few minutes at a time maybe longer if Im getting a large file. I share the wealth on DC++ sense I use it a lot but kazaa is only for when I need something faster than I can get it on DC++.

Otaku 07-06-2003 05:29 PM

definately...it annoys me when others dont share

Ninja 07-06-2003 05:59 PM

i stoped using kazaa a long time ago... (xdcc bots rule) and i didnt share then because eny upload totaly rapes my bandwidth but i use Bit Torrent and do share/seed only at night tho

Empty_One 07-06-2003 06:19 PM

I don't really use kazaa that much, so I don't bother sharing. I get 90% of my music from newsgroups or my friends ftp servers. On the rare chance that it actually is open, it's because I'm looking for a specific song to show to someone. As soon as 'm done, the program gets closed. That makes it not really worth it to share

rodimus 07-06-2003 06:51 PM

nope, i'm a mooch. :)

AppleSauceMcGee 07-06-2003 08:28 PM

i download from kazaa, but turned on the "do not share" feature... hahhahahahaahahaha suckers

KeyserSoze 07-06-2003 10:23 PM

I refuse to answer correctly on the grounds that the RIAA may be monitoring this:D

striderkevin 08-03-2003 01:00 PM

I share, but only allow 2 uploads at a time.

obelix 08-03-2003 02:29 PM

i used to but i dont anymore. id rather avoid any stupid charges via kazaa (however unlikely they may seem) if i do share, i limit the bandwidth to less than 5k/s.

debaser 08-03-2003 02:31 PM

I'm one of those assholes who only takes. :D

(Of course I also uninstall the program after using it to get rid of all the spy/scum-ware that is packaged with it.)

Looften 08-03-2003 05:54 PM

I don't share files, but... I'm on dial up and rarely use kazaa to begin with.

Ralvek 08-03-2003 05:59 PM

I share some, but most of my collection isn't shared...Have to admit the stupid law suits by the recording industry kinda spooked me

Same.

I got bitched at by a "Computer Specialist" (special, my ass) at my University for sharing a file my fucking roommate downloaded onto my computer.

Supposedly my account is "being monitored for future activity."

Fucking RIAA.

xman 08-03-2003 09:48 PM

kazaa will be the next napster:o

waxeater 08-03-2003 09:52 PM

I share. It doesn't hurt. I have mostly music, so I get a good feeling when I see someone downloading a really cool song. I'll sometimes send them a message and recomend some other similar stuff and a lot of the time they comeback with a few for me too. So sharing is definitly worthwhile.

neoinoakleys 08-04-2003 06:58 AM

Sharing....isn't that what Sesame Street always taught us?? I think we need to reacquaint the RIAA with the concept...:-)

Fly 08-04-2003 07:17 AM

yup i share...on Winmx though.

if you ain't sharin' and try and suck off my pc.....i fuckin' delete you.

i get the odd memo sayin'..."what the fuck pal, why'd you delete me?"

i send them a good long hahahahahahahahaha......fuck you if you don't share.

ace81385 08-04-2003 11:02 AM

Id advice not using kazaa anymore theyre like selling names of pepz that use it government so they can bust ur ass and put uin slammer . or so ive heard....

RelaX 08-04-2003 11:43 AM

I don't share, simply because my (sucky) provider places a bandwidth limit on its users... I can't 'move' (down- and upload together) more than 2500 mb of data a month... :(

rl33 08-04-2003 12:20 PM

I allow 5 ul. I generally don't cut people off if they don't share but there are those times that it really gets on my nerves.

a2k 08-04-2003 01:24 PM

I've got a VoIP phone from Vonage and nothing kills call quality like a bunch of P2P activity, so I only jump on for a minute, grab whatever file, and turn the app off again. But I do share lots of CDR's!

crow_daw 08-04-2003 05:48 PM

I share about 900 songs and nine videos(no porn though)

crafty 08-06-2003 10:20 PM

Even though I'm not too worried about the risk.. Just reading one story made me turn off uploading.. They are targetting students and I'm moving into my dorm room in a week.. If I got fined any amount like that it would be about the end of my education, because I'd have to work a rediculous amount to pay it back - not worth it when you gain nothing from uploading.. hell, I've even slowed down on downloading tremendously

lalalapi 08-06-2003 10:25 PM

I used to share on Kazaa until the RIAA began its recent issuing of subpoenas. Now, I just share video and software on eMule+.

MacGnG 08-06-2003 10:33 PM

it depends when i just wann d/l something fast i dont, but i've had many free file servers (hotline, carracho, ftp, etc..) and ppl tend to piss me off when its a file server and you cant just search for what u want but, i share.

ForgottenKnight 08-07-2003 12:18 AM

I no longer share due to the threat from the RIAA. I'm a college student, and that's who their targeting. They sent a subpoena to one guy that was only sharing 8 mp3 files! The RIAA thinks that they're going to gain back all of their lost business by suing all of their customers. If they were half-way intellegent, they would try lowering the cost of a new CD from almost $20 to around $10. I know tons of other students that wouldn't download and would buy the CD if they could afford it, but CDs are one of the only technologies that have remained the same price since they first came out years and years ago. The artist make their money mainly off touring, and only a bit off of CDs, so sharing isn't hurting the artists as much as they want to make you think. It's hurting the record companies and that's why the RIAA is suing everyone. The stupidest thing is that they're suing for violating the copyright laws, but the copyright laws specifically implies that to be violating it, you have to be using the music for profit. Since most users are using it for personal use only, and are not gaining profit from sharing, then all it takes is a very good lawyer, and a judge willing to reconize that there's no profit gained, for the case to be thrown out in court. If enough cases get thrown out in court, with the RIAA losing money every time, they're decide to knock it off.

When I did share, I shared on WinMX. The RIAA BS has make me stop sharing all MP3s. I was going to continue share my vids (Simpsons esposodes, SciFi eposodes, and a few music videos, nothing really I can find in stores), but then I realized that RIAA is only starting with MP3s. If their cases don't get thrown out in court, then they're go after all of the vids too. The RIAA represents the whole recording industry, so television eposodes, movies, and other video files are next on their hit-list after MP3s.

remiel 08-07-2003 09:40 AM

I share, but I only have kazaa on when I'm DLing something

Mr. Spacemonkey 08-07-2003 09:48 AM

I share some stuff but not everything i download.

iceman2032 08-07-2003 11:05 AM

cetacean 08-07-2003 02:58 PM

I don't use kazaa, but I keep my bit torrents open for a while after I download something...

souzafone 08-07-2003 03:34 PM

I use winmx and allow all to share 50 gigs---only when I'm using it & I try to kill leeches. I don't restrict bandwidth unless I've got something downloading very fast, then 15 kbs. is the only setting on winmx.

08-07-2003 09:10 PM

I'll admit that I've been scared into stopping my Kazaa sharing by all the gestapo crap that's been going on.

I'd prefer to wait and see what the courts have to say about it before I continue again.

At least, with Kazaa.....

GT3_GOD 08-07-2003 09:44 PM

I use bit-torrent and Suprnova, its an excellent combination :)

^dude 08-08-2003 05:13 AM

Yep, around 3000 files.

sub zero 08-08-2003 06:37 AM

When I used kazaa (back in the day) I wouldn't share ANYTHING. I was on 56k most of the time so when people tried to download from me it always made things go slower and that was just unacceptable.

theinfamous 08-08-2003 10:16 AM

i don't have much...but whatever i have i share freely
