What is a reasonable price for a haircut?
I have gone to the same barber for the last 18 years....He finally retired at age 85 so I had to go looking for a new Barber.
I'm used to paying around 20 bucks including tip. Down the street is a Chinese guy (from china) cutting hair for 5.99... How good of a hair cut can that be? I asked a friend of mine who cut his hair....his "stylist" charges him about 40 dollars..with shampoo....Not really a better haircut than mine and I wash my hair every day. I really don't have that much time to go around hunting out the best deal.....Should price be my guide? What then is a reasonable price for a haircut? |
I pay 18 plus 2 tip. Every year for the past 4 years, the price has gone up 2 dollars. I've had the same guy cut my hair for teh past 15 years. I don't know anything else.
|
Place I go, hair cut is $13 + $2 tip. You get a free soda (glass bottle coke or O'Doul's) and they only serve men, "Hair Saloon For Men."
http://www.hairsaloon.com |
No location close by but that is a pretty neat website for barbershop
|
free from mom :)
|
when i used to see the barber.. $6.00 plus $1 tip.
now that i have long hair, I go to a salon... $24 plus tip of $3.00 but I go like once a year maybe 2 times. |
$5.00 plus $1 or 2 for tip, a really good haircut. But it is back home, I will go back in june, he usually charges me 4.
Since I've been here, I have only cut my hair twice in supercut ($15 each time, and I had long hair in that time) I saved more money buying a clipper and getting a haircut myself, since I wanted a short trim all over my head, no style :) |
Near where I live the price usually range from 10-15 dollars. Any more than that will be either from stylist or a total rip off.
|
I'd like to say that you get what you pay for but in this case it isnt always true.If you arent a supermodel,Fifteen bucks max,and she outta wash it for you too..
|
$20
|
Wow, $18US for a haircut? I used to get mine done for $15NZ ($7.50US), and she washed it afterwards too O_o
|
about $15, shampoo, gel and drink included.
|
Used to pay 18 including tip, now its 15 including tip.
|
Funny you ask, I've been shaving my head for about 3 years. I have no idea either. But I do think gillete is making a fortune off me.
|
I don't know. I've been to a hair salon two times in 22 years.
Now my SO cuts my hair and I cut his. But I think the average price is $10-25 |
i pay around 8 dollars cdn then 2 dollars tip, about 6.50 usd i think?
my hair is easy to cut so no matter where i go i dont really ever get a bad hair cut, so price usually predicts where i go! |
Greatclips. $11 plus $2 tip.
|
Supercuts: 8 bucks plus an appreciated tip. Tipping is not a city in China
|
There is no way I could find a $5 haircut around here. I can't even get 2 gallons of gas for a fiver. $13 plus tip is the lowest.
|
Just got a haircut yesterday, 11 dollars and a 2 dollar tip.
The haircut is pretty good. Women aren't going to be throwing themselves at my feet, but I have a better chance of aceing my job interview. |

I go to a hairdressing school and pay 6 bucks if I've let my hair grow out and need a trim. Otherwise I turn to my trusty $14 clippers and do the job myself.
|
I pay Zero now. GF and I bought a kit for 12 bucks.
|
Oh my lord, and I'm paying $45 + $5 tip to go to a freaky salon on Haight St. Good haircuts though.
I think I'm a closet metrosexual :) |
Depends on how much time I have...
I have naturally curly hair that's just past my shoulders, it is a challenge to cut, plus it's got a lot of gray so I have it colored about every 8 weeks. For a cut, if I have the time, I'll go to either Warren Tricomi or one of the posh posh super expensive salons in New York City -- and spend 25 bucks plus tip a the the training schools. I'll spend about 3 hours in the chair, and have a student it's almost ready to be turned out work on my hair - monitored very closely by one of the salon pros - the salon pro will then finish my hair. (I basically end up getting a 350 dollar or more cut and color for about 40 bucks - -because the cut is so good, I don't have to go as often) When I'm desperate and don't have time to wait, I pay about 35 for the hair cut (plus tip) plus about 40 for the color. I'm paying more money for it, and it's no where near as good a cut. |
I'm balding. So anything less than $5. Mainly it's free since my SO does it for me. Someday I will shave my own head. Something about a razor to the scalp scares me. Especially when I'm holding the razor.
|
Hair cuttery, $13 + $2 tip. Shampoo+Cut.
I would probably pay up to $20 if I really, really liked a place and they cut my hair awesomely. They do a decent job at the hair cuttery though. |
back in the mid 90's when I kept hair on my head, my upper limit I was (and still am) prepared to pay a barber for a haircut was $5-8. Anything past that for male haircuts (short hair) is too much in my opinion.

i pay 9 bucks + 3 bucks tip for haircut, shampoo and a quick shave of any facial hair
|
I pay 4.99$ for mine with a coupon.
The original price is 8.99$ though, I think. |
My haircut consists of dragging a 1 length clipper over my head a few times. I could easily do it myself, but I never get it right with the same amount of effort than $13 + $2 tip will get me at Supercuts.
|
I am very cheap and only get my hair cut like once a year. But when I do go and get it cut I go to the Beauty College and they do it for 5 dollars.
|
Wow I pay a lot for my hair... I get it done about every 9 months or so... I pay around $130. But I am really really fickle with the people who touch my hair with scissors. I don't mind paying a lot of money if they do it right.
I get highlights and style with wash and dry. It is pricey, but it is also in a very picey town. |
I shave my own damn head, cost me a $20 razor from walmart and that's that.
before when i had hair i went to a chinese stylist and only paid 6 bucks, 8 with tip. honestly, it was the best haircut i've ever had... |
I think I pay about the standard...$13 and $2-5 for tip, depending on if I really like the job they do.
The place I go to is owned and operated by young (20ish) men, so they do my hair in the style I like. |
I cut my own hair...have for several years. *shrug*
|
20$ canadian. Once I went to supercuts, but hated the haircut.
Now i've got a great stylist, she cuts really well. |
I just realized I'm tipping too much. I wished I would have run into this thread years ago.
$12 + $4-6 tip ... I keep my hair clipped nice and tight, nothing terribly complicated. |
$3.00 and $2 tip at the barber collage just two blocks away---
I can run up there in my golf cart...never get a bad cut because the "BIG BOSS" always checks it before you leave....saves a few bucks for good scotch...:D |
I pay 17, but I have had the same lady do it since I was 10. I figure paying a little more is worth it since the cheap places never do it right to begin with.
|
I cut my own, but when I feel like it, I pay around 10-12USD plus tip.
|
$7-15. And the tip depends on how good the do, but also how much they cost. If, at $15, they dont cut my hair any better or treat me any better than the $7 place, i figure the tip is included in the price. But at $7, the cut is cheap enough that i can give a small tip if it sucks, and a decent bit if i like it.

I've got REALLY long hair that I never really bothered to get much done to in the past, so I was in the habit of paying around 10 bucks for a "trim" (basically just edging out the back of my neck and sometimes trimming split ends or shaving the sides when I had an undercut).
However, lately, I've started going to one of the pricier salons (which in West Virginia is still cheaper than a city) to get something with a little more style (but still very long) and I pay about 80 bucks for cut, color, highlights and tip. I think it's a good deal, since I come out very happy with what they've done (which is rare for me, I'm usually way too picky about my hair). If I lived in a bigger city, or actually required something more than just coloring and a careful trim on the ends, I'd expect to pay 100-150, but it wouldn't be very often, since I hate having scissors around my head. |
Am I the only person who doesnt tip???
I didnt know that was part of the deal. Just go to a walmart. Its 13 bucks |
Walmart!?
|
My last one was a ripper but I can't fathom the whole "tip" thing cause we don't do that shit down here.
It cost me $25 and that is something I'm not used too. But I will be back. Most certainly |
It all depends on where you go.
Usually, you get what you pay for. I've only gotten a haircut once at a cheap place, and I didn't care for it to much. $7 and no hairdrying. Then I've gone to a more expensive place (middle-priced) well-known salon and it costs about $16 and they are decent. They dry and even usualy style your hair for no extra charge. Then I just went to a high-end salon for the first time, I also got my hair coloured, but both cost $101 total. I received a $10 discount on the haircut, because of the colour, so that tells me the cut was expensive alone. But I really really like the cut & colour. So, it all depends on where you go and how much you pay and how you want your hair to look. Of course, it's usually not a big issue for guys. |
The best cut I've had in the last couple of years was £5 + tip and that was in London where everything costs twice as much as everywhere else.
My last cut cost £8 and was the most expensive I could find in my neighbourhood. I chose the most expensive because nobody in this country seems to be able to cut hair any more and I hoped that the few who could might be working at marginally higher salaried jobs at slightly more expensive places. Boy was I wrong. Actually the only half decent haircuts I've had in the last 5 years were from a guy I know who trained as a hairdresser back in the day when you had to complete a proper apprenticeship. So no, don't pay, find out from your friends who they reccomend. Failing that, find someone with a cool haircut and ask them who did it. |
I pay $14 for one. Its a guy in a local shop that I have gone to since I was a little kid. There are other, cheaper places, but I know and trust the guy, and Ive been going there for almost 20 years now. I dont mind paying a little more for that.
|
I tried Supercuts twice - both times it cost me even more to get it done right.
I was paying $22 for awhile, but the stylist got pregnant and took some time off. In the meantime, I found a place closer to home for $12 - that includes wash/dry. The bonus is - she likes to cut really clean hair, so I get a 5 minute scalp massage thrown in to the deal - which is worth the $12 on its own. I always add a $5 tip. |
i'd say anywhere from 10 - 20 dollars is reasonable.. i usually pay about 10
|
$15 here.
|
free from my buddy, or 16 incl. tip at the local father & son barbershop, can of ice cold budweiser included hehhe.

I pay as little as possible for mine, I don't see the point in paying more than £5 for a number four all over. |
As our pal Rocky would say, the difference between a bad cut and a good cut is usually 4 or five days.
He's very hairy though! |
I pay $10. It used to be $8 just a couple of years ago. Damn economy.
|
9 dollars plus a 1 dollar tip = a 10 dollar bill, and i have a new haircut. :)
|
i pay $15 New Zealand so thats around $9.50 US
|
$7.50 at the Base BX, and they usually do a damm good job to...
not to mention they do so many in a day it takes less than 5 minutes... :D |
I pay 12 bucks plus tip at Fantastic Sams.
|
I go to a hair salon and pay 18+Tip, which is usually 5 bucks. The girl that cuts it is really cool, and I'm one of the very few guys who goes there so she likes to play around with my hair. I just tell her to cut however someone she would date would have it, and it always comes out lookin sharp.
|
I dunno. Ms juju is a licensed cutter, so I get mine for free. I suppose I do have to pay with the house payment and grocery money....hmmm....
