TFP New York City MEET-UP Discussion WHEN?

I was thinking that since the people on the Left Coast were going to get together that maybe we'd try to get together here on the East Coast.

I wanted to try to gauge how many people would be interested in getting together and then I can start looking for a suitable venue or location.

Halx 05-17-2004 01:37 PM

with enough notice, i'll make it my excuse to finally visit NYC

Cynthetiq 05-17-2004 01:40 PM

right.. if we don't have enough interest we'll put this together for an end of summer deal.

Jolt 05-17-2004 06:53 PM

<- upstate, not far off

hmm...might be interesting.

losthellhound 05-17-2004 07:03 PM

If I have enough warning, and the right people go, I'll head out.. err.. south. ;)

Averett 05-18-2004 03:11 AM

That's a bad weekend for me, I'll be in Maryland for a wedding :( Any other weekend and I'll most likely be in. Okay, except for the last weekend in June. So anything other than that :D

ubertuber 05-18-2004 10:30 AM

I might be able to make it if this is our only option - this is part of the three weeks I am gone this summer. That said, if this is going to be the day, I'll try to come back early to do it. I think Supple Cow will be in NY that weekend, so she'd probably be there.

If it matters, just about anytime after July 5 would be fantastic for me.

ubertuber 05-18-2004 10:33 AM

Also, I am sure that you put it on the same day as Seattle and SoCal on purpose, but that would preclude Halx from finally having an excuse to come here...

Cynthetiq 05-18-2004 05:20 PM

well... we have no commitments from anyone at this time, I'm going to couch this idea for a later time.

Icelandair had a good fare and I've just booked at trip to Iceland on that weekend.

Let's start talking about When in the future we can get together...

Averett 05-18-2004 05:24 PM

Well, I'd go. I just can't go June 13th or June 26th. Any other weekend than that and I'm 98% there.

Esen 05-18-2004 05:37 PM

Well I definatly can go to the NYC one since I live in NYC lol

but from what I can see on the boards we need to do a different weekend.

I would be more then happy to help put this together.

MSD 05-18-2004 07:05 PM

I can do late summer

heyal256 05-18-2004 07:34 PM

I'm generally free most weekends, so whatever dates are decided, I can probably make.

ubertuber 05-19-2004 10:34 AM

I suggest the following three dates:

July 25, August 1, August 8

This mostly meets the criteria of late summer.

Have a good time in Iceland Cynthetiq!

uncle phil 05-19-2004 05:20 PM

set a date...if i can make it, great; if i can't, i'll try somehow...

Esen 05-19-2004 05:58 PM

one good thing about New York is..
That every sat and sun in the summer there is a huge street fair on a differeent block each day.
The 24th of July is NO good for me

ARTelevision 05-20-2004 09:56 AM

...we'll definitely consider this - thanks!

tecoyah 05-21-2004 03:02 PM

Upstate here...bit of notice and I'm in.

Munku 05-21-2004 03:05 PM

I'll be in NY sometime mid - late july. :D

WarWagon 05-21-2004 10:38 PM

If I haven't moved or am on vacation, then I may be able to make it. Only about 1 1/2 hours by train.

KWSN 05-23-2004 06:30 AM

I'm never good at keeping making a commitment to a certain date, so once I see the final date I'll know whether I can go.

It's not a far cry for me though, on a day with good traffic the city's only about 20 minutes away.

Losthjjd 05-30-2004 09:32 AM

I've only posted a few times, but I live in New York, so I'll go.

eyeronic 05-31-2004 07:47 PM

Maybe...

Jesus Pimp 06-02-2004 09:08 AM

I'll live in PA but I'll definitely go.

Supple Cow 06-07-2004 06:00 PM

It doesn't look like anybody's been trying to organize this for a couple of days so I'll go ahead and jump in...

Why don't we see if we can agree on one date first? I think August 1st looked good and there were no 'nays' yet (as far as I can see).

Cynthetiq 06-08-2004 05:56 AM

August 1st looks like a good starting point to work from...

maleficent 06-08-2004 06:00 AM

long as there's air conditioning :) I'm in...

Cynthetiq 06-08-2004 06:48 AM

blue cheese olives... never heard of them before... i don't like my martinis to get dirty, but I think I'll have to try one of those blue cheese ones.

maleficent 06-08-2004 06:52 AM

I'll bring ya lemon twists, as a backup... :D
(I'm nice sometimes, but don't let that get around.)

--------------
So -- what are the thoughts on what to do -- based on how the summer is starting to look, I get the feeling we're going to be in for a hot humid summer, I was only half kidding about the airconditioning... .but....

Esen 06-11-2004 06:34 AM

I 'm up for Augusrt 1st, that works for me

tropple 06-11-2004 10:50 AM

31 July works better for me, but I could swing 01 August. I'd prefer a Saturday over a Sunday since I have to work Monday.

ubertuber 06-14-2004 08:14 PM

August 1st - yes, I'll be there!

Averett 06-15-2004 04:58 AM

I doubt that I'll be able to make it. I am dead broke.

Supple Cow 06-23-2004 07:24 AM

Does anybody have any ideas about where to do this?

Cynthetiq 06-23-2004 07:52 AM

Depending on the amount of people gathering and weather...

I'm thinking that keeping it closer to midtown since those people who come in from Long Island/NJ would come in via Grand Central and Port Authority/Penn Station.

locations: Bryant Park, Bowling Alley in Port Authority, misc midtown bars

agball 06-23-2004 07:58 AM

I'm game, just let me know when & where

Cynthetiq 06-23-2004 09:14 AM

I'm planning on going to NYC Summer Stage on July 31, as they will have 2 Icelandic bands performing.. that's free too. A bit further than midtown...

Genre: rock, funk

Vinyl from Reykjavik, Iceland have made it their mission to remind us of the importance of rock n’ roll. They play it loud, and even a little bit sleazy, and make no apologies along the way. Their roots are as much in the testosterone punch of Guns N’ Roses as the amphetamine crush of the Stooges. The Icelandic funk band Jagúar was formed in 1998. They started out by playing music by the JB´s, Kool and the Gang, Earth Wind & Fire and many other 70’s funkateers. The band consists of seven members, including a 3-piece horn section. Jagúar is known for hot-and-steamy live shows carried with deep bass lines and brilliant beats.

ubertuber 06-23-2004 07:07 PM

Hey I love that bowling alley! You can rent lanes there for a decent hourly rate, particularly if you do it online. We could bowl, drink some cheap beer, and then the whole city is right outside. Not to mention, it is kind of skeezy, the way a bowling alley should be. I am not really comfortable with the flourescent sanitization of Chelsea Piers. (Did I mention that I was the founder and president of the Juilliard Bowling Club? Not that I am any good though!)

Supple Cow 06-24-2004 03:35 PM

I vote for the bowling alley! Watch out now, folks. I'm a member of the Juilliard Bowling Club, too (though not actually a Juilliard student).

ubertuber 06-24-2004 07:22 PM

Wait a minute... Do I know you?

scoobydugan 06-26-2004 11:52 AM

Gimme a date, and I'll be there...I'm on Long Island so its a very short trip. I'm sure Daydreams will come also.... Any of the 3 late summer dates would be great!

Nefir 06-28-2004 05:28 PM

I'm intrigued. There's a good chance I can make it, so I'll try my darndest to make it stick. It would be fascinating to actually meet you people :)

Paq 06-30-2004 07:15 PM

My vote is sometime between july 16 and august 14 :)

eyeronic 07-05-2004 09:01 PM

August 1st is a Sunday, is it not? I would probably be up for something on that day.

Paq 07-05-2004 09:10 PM

august 1st sounds great

how about....ummmmm.......

hell if i know :)

Cynthetiq 07-07-2004 09:14 AM

Okay... so let's pick August 1st as the meeting date...

so far people like the idea of a bowling outing? rent the lane for a few hours possibly?

Esen 07-07-2004 02:56 PM

well, what ever you do , do not pick the chelsea lanes, its way too damn expensive

Supple Cow 07-07-2004 04:17 PM

I think we're going with the Port Authority lanes - cheaper and sleazier, just as a bowling alley should be. Does anybody object to this location?

Cynthetiq 07-13-2004 11:52 AM

Nope.. no objection...

So it's Aug 1, Port Authority Lanes inside Port Authority at what time?

Citysearch Editorial Review

By Gabrielle Studenmund and Karen Hudes

The most exciting option for killing time while waiting for the next bus.

Spare!
Port Authority's lively, unexpected bowling alley offers thirty lanes, a full bar and pub menu, and league play for serious bowlers. The Moonlight Bowl, a lights-out disco party, takes place on the last Saturday of every month. In the two game rooms, find turbo-charged machines, artillery-heavy gore-fests, a dancing game that rates your steps and even air hockey (but alas, no pinball).

Lucky Strike
The carpeted Leisure Time bar is like an airport lounge taken down several notches. Classic rock and R&B, and the occasional rumble (of bowling balls and trains) set the soundtrack to low-key after-work drinking, where the burgundy-leatherette booths allow plenty of space to gather with friends. Beers on tap, such as Red Hook and New Amsterdam, average around $4. Tasty baskets of fries may be ordered with pizza, burgers, dogs and fried shrimp.

loquitur 07-14-2004 02:49 PM

yeah, i just might be able to make that. 8/1, you say?

quadro2000 07-15-2004 08:14 AM

Unfortunately I have a wedding that day so I probably won't be able to make it... :(

SO many weddings...

Make it late August and I will be there

what do you consider late august?

Halx 07-20-2004 10:16 AM

21st or 22nd

that would be ideal for me to visit.. I wanna book my flight soon

Jesus Pimp 07-21-2004 09:27 AM

Yeah I think late august would be better.

Cynthetiq 07-22-2004 12:30 PM

i can do either of those days right now...

Halx 07-22-2004 12:32 PM

ok, well... start PMing people...

I think I'm gonna book soon.

Supple Cow 07-22-2004 12:35 PM

I'm in the air on these dates (pending housing and employment), but I don't want to hold up the big event anymore. If it's getting moved and ubertuber is back by August 1st, we may just PM those of you who said you could make it on that day and have a get together anyway.

I was thinking along those lines too.. since there are some people like Paq that are only in NYC before that time.

roachboy 07-23-2004 09:21 AM

i am in nyc quite often, and this would be interesting to attend---so if its not next week any more, but the 21st...i could put in an appearance... but probably only the night of the 21st and/or the 22nd.

put me on the list of folk, please. i'll figure things out at my end.

Halx 07-23-2004 11:30 PM

I've booked my flight to LA... August 19th to the 25th.

See you guys there.

Supple Cow 07-26-2004 12:26 PM

YAY, EMPLOYMENT!!! I'll be here.

Cynthetiq 07-26-2004 01:48 PM

Okay, so there's going to be a small gathering to go bowling on the 1st? and then another later in the month?

quadro2000 07-27-2004 06:05 AM

Yeah, I have another wedding on the 21st (don't you dare fucking laugh), but if anybody's up for lunch on the 22nd (Sunday), I could do that.

Supple Cow 07-28-2004 12:38 PM

Ahh, yes yes. I'll be there. Didn't realize you were waiting for another reply.

Averett 07-28-2004 12:52 PM

Cynthetiq, I got your PM, tried to reply but your box is full. I can't make it. Can't afford the trip into the city. Maybe some other time :)

07-28-2004 01:15 PM

i miss NYC so much! =( have fun guys!

Esen 07-28-2004 05:16 PM

Ill be there for the August 1st get together.

Woot!

Ill be out of town the end of August .
darn.

Going to Seattle

BuDDaH 07-28-2004 06:07 PM

I'm there..

Cynthetiq 07-30-2004 06:46 AM

:) okay... looking forward to seeing you folks there on Sunday. :)

look for me... the guy with long ponytail :)

BuDDaH 07-30-2004 02:57 PM

When Halx gets here, I am going for an outting to watch Yankee baseball at the stadium. Any person wants to go, lets get a date so I can try to get a group thing going..

Halx 07-30-2004 03:40 PM

the only times availible for a Yankee game are Friday (7pm), Saturday (1pm) and Sunday (1pm)

So I was thinking, depending on what day we have the meet up, I would like to see a game the other day of the weekend.

Esen 07-30-2004 05:45 PM

So who are the definates for Sunday?

ubertuber 07-30-2004 08:31 PM

Looks like I'll be there with you guys. Looking forward to it.

quadro2000 07-31-2004 05:35 AM

A wedding is going to keep me away from the TFP meetup this weekend. Hope you all have a great time!

Nefir 07-31-2004 11:55 AM

"Yeeeaah, I'm gonna need you to come in on Sunday, too. That would be greeaaat..."

Unfortunately work caught up with me this weekend. Sorry :(

Hope it turns out great!

Cynthetiq 08-02-2004 09:08 AM

well those that did not make it to yesterday's g2g here's pics...

http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=64581

Jesus Pimp 08-05-2004 07:35 PM

I'll be there! Hey Cynthetiq can i crash at your place?

Cynthetiq 08-10-2004 08:08 AM

I actually have something that I must do that sunday for some friends RenFaire performance.

I'm trying to move it to another day but that's not happening right now.

roachboy 08-10-2004 08:34 AM

have locations and times been set up yet for this thing on the 22nd?
something has come up that will probably take me out for the afternoon, but if things are still going on a bit later (late afternoon early evening) i think can still make it.

Cynthetiq 08-10-2004 10:35 AM

I am trying to make arrangements even if I cannot attend as I have a good knowledge of lots of places here in the city.

There's a Chevy's across from Port Authority that isn't all that expensive...request from last meetup was that we do it where there's food first...
