The National Dean's List

This is for all the college students on the board. I am wondering if anyone has heard of the National Dean's List ? I do not know one sole besides myself who made it onto the list. I have no idea how I made onto the list either, my grades are about a 3.0. If anyone else made it what are your grades like and do you know who nominated you? Or do you know anyone who made it?

Don't take this the wrong way but... do they try to sell you something?

In high school I got an offer to be on some national list of high school kids.. I was excited-as.. till I checked it out and the real purpose was just to sell their stupid yearbook w/ your picture in it.

The Simpsons has an episode where a similar thing happened.

There's a thing like that down here (in Oz) for high-acheivers. I think it's called the Golden Key Society or something like that. You are given an offer to join if you have a certain grade level.. there's a ceremony.. then they try to sell you memoribilia and yearbooks.

Anyways, this may not be the case for you.. I'm just really cynical when I see stuff like this.

I made it onto this list as well. My take on it was that it is basically a scam to sell overpriced books to suckers much like the "Who's Who" books. It is free to be included on the list and you can buy a handsome leather bound copy for only $50. I added my name, but passed on the book. I imagine they just pull lists of honor rolls from colleges and universities around the country to get the most possible victims, I mean honorees. A 3.0 is hardly shameful. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but that's just my 2 cents.

Like grayman said, they offer you a book, but you do not have to buy it. Once you submit your biography, you can apply for scholarships. They will send a letter to your future employers and schools notifying them you made the list if you request.

I made my school's Dean's List this past semester. That's good enough for me, especially when I was expecting a D in english and got an A. Still can't explain it.

I made Dean's list twice out of four semesters so far, and the only reason I didn't make it four times is because of my hours. My GPA is always enough for Dean's List, but at my college, if you have below 15 hours then the requirements for the list go through the roof. 3.2 required if you have 15 hours and up; 3.45 if you have less than 15 hours!! I always have between 3.3 and 3.4. Oh well, it could be like my girlfriend's college where ya gotta have a 3.45 no matter what. I'd have only made it once!

Crazy

I made the National Dean's List with a 4.0 GPA. It's definitely comparable to the "Who's Who Among American High School Students" book/program. It's nice to be honored, but it's also pretty useless. (Or has been in my experience).

1. Tell kid he made some national dean's list.
2. Wait for kids to fall for it.
3. PROFIT!

Its teacher recomendations, not GPA, that get you on. That makes it good and bad. Someone with a low GPA can get it, but someone who is only booksmart will not necessarily get it if they are not a good all around student who asks questions and interacts with the class.
