Of course companies pay for advertising because it works. Hell, I remember sitting in my dorm room at 2am, seeing a Taco Bell commercial, and making a run for the border. You can say it had something to do with alcohol, but if there hadn't been a commercial, we may have gone to Subrunner's.
But a TV spitting ions at me? Both ridiculous and unnecessary. |

I think some people are missing the point that this is a fictional French Canadian film: L'Affaire Bronswik (1978).
I can imagine that the OP wasn't really paying attention in class and missed when the lecturer pointed out that this was a fictional account of an interesting event (either that or the professor is a tool).
