TFP Southern California MEET-UP (Sun, June 13th)

What? The SoCal TFP residents are gonna congregate and fuck around for a while.
When? Sunday, June 13th ... about 1 pm sounds good.
Where? The beach at Corona Del Mar
Why? Because I said so.
Who? So far we have...

This is happening this time. I don't care what you say. I am gonna drag each and every one of you to this, kicking and screaming. You will cancel birthdays, family dinners, funerals, bar mitzvahs, and dates. You have a month to clear this fucking date on your calendar and BY GOD you will attend!
So, I gotta know who will be attending...
And I gotta hear suggestions of where to have this. I'm willing to travel to OC to get this going, if that's the case. I'd prefer something closer to MY home, but I realize that not many people are from Ventura County. We're looking for an uncrowded restaurant with a laid back atmosphere or park/beach with close food access. Fire 'em off.

Supple Cow 05-10-2004 09:14 PM

NOOOOOO!!!!! I'm going to be visiting home (LA) soon, but only until June 1st. *snaps*

You should organize another one in August. After the 5th. When I'll be home again. For me.

KeyserSoze 05-10-2004 09:17 PM

Hmmmm...well I was going to post we could have it at my place but then I noticed it's the same Sunday when the Cubs are in town to play my Angels.

Want to change the date....there might be a ticket in there for you :D

Halx 05-10-2004 09:20 PM

You have 2 other days to watch the Cubs.. you are coming whether you like it or not!

Cynthetiq 05-10-2004 09:21 PM

hmmmm.... .maybe we do one here in NYC and tie them together....

KeyserSoze 05-10-2004 09:23 PM

Hmmmm..Sunday day game in Anaheim...Chicago Cubs...ball will be flying out of the park. Game will be sold out, I have choice seats...Hmmm...CHANGE THE DAMN DATE and we can have a party at my place.:D

Krycheck 05-10-2004 09:29 PM

Count me in. Day and time sound good to me.
I'd prefer someplace in OC myself. What sort of place are we looking to meet up at?

Halx 05-10-2004 09:34 PM

The date is firmly set! Everyone must adjust!

:)

Ok...lets all meet at Angel Stadium :D

TheClarkster 05-10-2004 09:37 PM

While being a relatively quiet guy around here, I might be good to go.
I'm just a little non-social but we'll see.

I'm up for $5 cheap seats!!

bparker805 05-10-2004 10:40 PM

I will commit to try to get the day off work and rock it! But Halx, you have got to keep it in your pants! I don't want to go home crying...

micah67 05-11-2004 01:07 PM

I'm in. I'll be coming up from San Diego and don't have too many ideas on where we could meet. I'll concede to the decision of others.

n0nsensical 05-11-2004 01:35 PM

I think I'll be there unless something gets in the way. I'm definitely up for a baseball game if you want to do that, but as a Mariners fan I will have no choice but to boo the Angels the whole time.

Halx 05-11-2004 02:15 PM

No chance on the baseball game.. it's sold out

bparker805 05-11-2004 05:14 PM

Well, tentatively it looks like I have the day off so lets light a fire under this and make it happen!

sillygirl 05-11-2004 10:03 PM

*raises hand* I might just be able to mosey on in...

Journeyman 05-11-2004 11:25 PM

I might be able to swing the long drive, if you'd accept a NorCal resident.

Plan9Senior 05-12-2004 12:39 AM

I will more then likely be able to make it.

bparker805 05-12-2004 12:37 PM

So, are we any closer to figuring out where this might happen?

Silly, we'll figure something out.

Halx 05-12-2004 12:46 PM

Well i'm trying to decide between West LA and OC. Here are a few venues we can consider:

Restaurant
Pool Hall
Bowling Alley
Park
Beach
Coffee Shop

ARTelevision 05-12-2004 12:47 PM

Have a blast, all you good people!

bparker805 05-12-2004 12:47 PM

If we go to a park, Im bring my bochi balls! Hmmm... maybe a bbq?

sillygirl 05-12-2004 01:03 PM

I think a park would be a good idea, or the beach. Depending on how many people go, a restaurant or coffee shop would be crowded, and a bowling alley would probably want us to reserve lanes so people could hang.

micah67 05-12-2004 01:59 PM

oooh! Bochi balls! :)

BBQ sounds good, too. I'm liking the park idea.

maleficent 05-12-2004 02:08 PM

Look for a public park where you can setup a bbq, and your bocci ball court, you may have to pay a small fee to reserve it for the afternoon, and cleanup when done, although if you are town/city resident, probably not. Bring chairs, blankets, food - -and enjoy.

FaderMonkey 05-12-2004 02:34 PM

I've never played Bochi Ball....you guys will have to teach me.

TheClarkster 05-12-2004 02:57 PM

Is bochi ball the one where you have to throw your ball closest to the other ball that you throw?
And a park sounds like a good plan!

Halx 05-12-2004 03:03 PM

if we were to do the park thing.. how would we arrange a bbq?

FaderMonkey 05-12-2004 03:13 PM

Everyone that's coming could bring some type of food. Maybe we could find a place with grills already there. If not, maybe someone has one they can bring?

Halx 05-12-2004 03:18 PM

well my boss has one .. he says he'd like to come, and he's got access to a truck, so we're good on that if NEED be

World's King 05-12-2004 03:22 PM

Okay. It's still up in the air if I'm gonna be there. I'm trying my hardest but money will be tight.

My birthday is the 14th of July and I'm goin' to LA to visit my cousin for my b-day. That's part of the reason we're doin' this when we are. So, no more people can bitch about the date.

We could do the BBQ thing... everyone just has to bring food... burgers, hot dogs, steak, dog, horse, small children. I'm a big fan of bars myself... as you all know. I'd be down for a BBQ then a night on the town... Hal and I need to go pick up girls in his new car and anyone is welcome to come along.

maleficent 05-12-2004 03:38 PM

For an idea for you -- (I'm a east coast gal, so california is out of my territory - check out campgrounds for a starting point)

This one looked real pretty
http://www.olemaranch.com/
(tis in ventura county -- you could probably rent a tent site or two - for a day --

their day rate is 3 dollars per person --

most campgrounds have bbq pits -

World's King 05-12-2004 03:45 PM

That campground even has WiFi.

Halx 05-12-2004 03:47 PM

living in ventura county, I know several good places to set up there... however, I dont really wanna subject the OC and SD people to the long drive..

unless it's ok with them

maleficent 05-12-2004 03:50 PM

Your early posts stated Venture County - that's what you got -- there are Orange County campgrounds as well..,

Based on my experience in putting together these events before -- those are the types of places you really want -- Restrooms nearby, parking, relatively quiet, easy to get to.

Just look at what their restructions are for alcohol on the premesis -- some don't allow open bottles and such (there are ways around everything - -but -- it's something to watch for.)

Actually that place is up near Frisco which is kind of a trek...
I might be able to get a hold of bbq too so it wouldnt be that tough.

And if its a bbq, my chicken wings are so gonna be there!

World's King 05-12-2004 04:07 PM

I'm exempt from bringing anything seeing as how I'll be on vacation.

KeyserSoze 05-12-2004 09:35 PM

Ok...SORRY...but I will not miss an afternoon game in Anaheim vs the Cubs..BUT...this is what I will do.

For those of you traveling down to Lost Angeles I will put you up in my apartment in West Lost Angeles. I have one extra room with a queen bed and it's own bath (whoopie) and I have a couch and plenty of floor :D

So for those of you traveling down we can have a mini get together and you all can hate me for not showing up Sunday after you leave town

Those that are short of cash and would like to drive down but can't afford the HUGE FUKIN GAS PRICES..well...I'll donate to the cause up to $150.00 unless I get fired....die...hit by a bus..fucked by a hottie till im an incoherent babbling idiot, or we just have one huge earthquake and we all fall into the ocean:D

Let HALX know and I'll send him a check and he can determine who gets the funds ...either way I'll pitch in...but I REALLY can't miss an ANGEL GAME....well...I take that back...if there is a hottie that wants me to attend (and I mean GIRLS..no chicks with dicks) I may consider it, but I will warn you ahead of time....The Angels have cost me a couple of girlfriends:eek:

Anyoooo....we'll see as the time date gets closer...but my offer of a place and donation stands.

KS

05-12-2004 09:37 PM

if its in ventura county ill go unless halx can give me a ride in his TL to Orange county haha

as for where to go, i think the Getty center would be preety cool!

tehhappyboy 05-12-2004 10:19 PM

Gonna be studying for my final. at UC Davis. Outside Sacramento. And I'm FROM LA. Oh well.

Halx 05-13-2004 10:59 AM

ok, scratch The Original King and KeyserSoze (bastards!) they have other plans.

So it's starting to shape up as a park meeting, but we need more ideas for actual location. If the San Diego and OC guys are willing to drive to Ventura County, I got it covered. Otherwise, we're gonna figure something else out in LA or OC.

Also, if this goes right, then I wouldn't mind having it again a month later.

World's King 05-13-2004 11:05 AM

It's not that I have other plans... I told you I was gonna be in LA in July... you're the one that made the get together in June. (Dork)

But that just means we can another one in July... Kick ass.

05-13-2004 01:26 PM

GETTY CENTER off the 405! nice place with nice views, art, a park.. kinda, and ITS FREE!

and amazing achitecture

I really hope this doesnt start some kind of east coast/west coast TFP fued... but if it does, its all about the West Coast because its the Best Coast!

sillygirl 05-14-2004 03:18 PM

so any updates? Maybe... a park by a beach? *hint hint* :p

goddfather40 05-15-2004 04:18 PM

My apologies for not putting in my suggestions earlier, I was out of town all last week. I don't necessarily mind driving to Ventura County, even though I would be coming from Riverside. The Getty Center idea is not bad either.

Whatever is decided I will likely be cool with it.

smooth 05-16-2004 11:38 AM

We have a really nice park area on the beach in Corona Del Mar. BBQ's available, firepits along the sand, nice grassy plots with shade trees and play areas, etc.

It's about 10-15 minutes from Irvine, just about smack in the middle between LA and San Diego. People can choose to park up on the street for free, but parking lot parking is ~5 per day. Maybe one truckload of the food and etc. to park, or just an assload of people to carry everything down to the beach. No alcohol allowed down on the beach area or park section.

If I'm rated by then I might even be able to cruise people around Newport Harbor in a 30 ft shields--but no promises on that.

Plan9Senior 05-16-2004 03:15 PM

change my status to maybe. i broke my arm horribly 2 days ago (spiral humerus break) and might need surgery to put a metal rod in. Not sure what kind of shape ill be in and if i will be able to drive my stickshift car :(

JStrider 05-16-2004 03:52 PM

man... stupid summer school interfering...
ohwell... one day i'll make it to an event... one day...

This sounds cool to me. No alcohol though. :(

bparker805 05-18-2004 11:30 AM

Just wondering if we might be any closer to a place and time...

sillygirl 05-18-2004 11:31 AM

My backyard is good :)

Ugh... too bad it's in arizona, eh? that defeats the purpose of a soco meet.

Do we have to have alcohol at a park? Cuz if not the one that was already mentioned sounded awesome! *nod nod*

Halx 05-18-2004 11:36 AM

we'll decide by the end of the week.. right now I'd like to find something a bit further north..

micah67 05-19-2004 02:43 PM

I have to withdraw: I will be out of the country.

Halx 05-19-2004 03:21 PM

Excuses! Not good enough! You will attend!

bernadette 05-19-2004 03:37 PM

oh! wow. i would love to meet up with you fine folks.

under ordinary circumstances, i could easily book a short flight down south... atm i'm not sure with all the remodeling stuff going on, but maybe i could escape for a night or 2...?

not a lot of notice for those who would travel, but then you did say this is for the socal tfpers... so ignore me. : )

july & august though make me sad. i hate the hot weather...

anyway, if (more than likely) i can't join y'all, have blast & snap tons of pics!! :D

Bern, dear... come visit me in the next few months :icare:

ariekitten 05-20-2004 08:50 PM

i.......wish i were there.....haha
too bad i live in the ol lonestar state.

Journeyman 05-21-2004 07:21 PM

I start 2-month summer course in Chemistry on the 14th. Since I'd be driving from San Fran-ish, my vote is with Hal on being as north as everyone will allow.

90degree 05-21-2004 08:01 PM

Dave and Busters might work as a venue. We would have Pool, video games, food, bar and television. A day at Magic Mountain would work nicely... or Disneyland perhaps, .. or Knotts Berry Farm, (New coaster there) would have Movie Land Wax Museum just down the street... w00t.. lol.

I can most likely make it, thx for the invite.

;]

Halx 05-21-2004 08:18 PM

Hmm Dave and Busters... never been there...

Halx 05-23-2004 10:02 PM

If we can get a little more info from smooth on the parks.. I think that would be a good choice to go with.

smooth 05-23-2004 11:26 PM

What kind of info would you like, Halx?

Here is an address that will drop you off street-side:

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...rch=++Search++

From that street, you can walk down a steep road to the beach or quite a bit of steps. I will try to get some pictures of the access points so people end up at the same place. But that could be difficult since school is winding down.

(June 13th is a few days after classes end. So depending on how many finals I have to grade, I could snap the shots right at the last minute and get them up before people start traveling :) ).

If you zoom out, you can see Newport Harbor and Balboa Island. Lots of touristy stuff to do there. Also, just up the road is Fashion Island, very nice outdoor mall. And, IIRC, a Dave and Busters is inside for those who want to check that out!

Journeyman 05-23-2004 11:49 PM

Ouuuuuch. Sorry, but the further south you get, the worse I'm gonna feel on Monday. Count me out, but have fun though.

How many Bay Area TFPers are there? Maybe we can have a seperate event.

Halx 05-24-2004 12:00 AM

Heh.. that's why it's the SoCal meet up.

I'll be able to take a couple people from Ventura County in my car if you all don't wanna drive. You will, however, be subjected to my driving and my music. Heh.

That's a good hour and a half from here, compensating for traffic... but I have been known to make the trip in 36 minutes exactly.

goddfather40 05-26-2004 04:22 PM

So is it finalized?...the beach in Corona del Mar?

Halx 05-26-2004 04:23 PM

yeah let's get off the computers for an afternoon and go to the beach

Halx 05-28-2004 12:14 AM

Ok.. smooth, how do we grab ahold of a spot there?

smooth 05-28-2004 02:01 PM

ok, as far as I know, there should be plenty of room and we don't need to notify anyone.. Bit I'll show up before our scheduled time and set up a some tables and a grill.

As we get closer, I'll go down and take some digital photos and post them in this thread. Combined with the map, people should have some very visual cues to follow to end up in the same place.

So I figure I'll take some shots of the actual meeting area, some from street level (so we know where to walk down), and some from around the general vicinity so people know where to look to park.

How many people does it look like are showing up?

What do we need? Food, beverages, charcoal, activities, etc? We'll probably need to figure that out when people start arriving. I might be able to snap some shots this weekend when my wife and I go down on our day sail, but no promises. Definately before the scheduled date, however. That map I provided gets you smack up to the park--so I just have to guide you from that endpoint to the actual benches we'll be at.

hmm, what am I forgetting? I don't know. Let me know what you think and need. It's a nice beach, with sizeable fire pits if people stay into the evening. Oh yeah, almost forgot. This is on the beach side of the Newport Harbor jetty. It should be impossible to miss. I have no problem going down in the morning and hanging out while people drift in.

Halx 05-28-2004 02:34 PM

We're looking at 10-12 people. Maaaybe more. Gonna bring some non-TFPers to mix it up a little. If you're gonna bring friends or sacrificial virgins, let me know so we can accomodate.

I'm gonna send out PMs to people to remind them what they need to bring. I'll put down some money for some steak and chicken. We need others to pledge more items, though.

Let's pile it all up in this thread.

Thanks for your help, smooth!

Mondak 05-30-2004 03:37 PM

I will be there. Please feel free to PM me with what I should contribute to the efforts - food, drinks, etc. Curious but if we are on the beach for the get together, will there be drinking? Many beaches don't allow this.

If smooth posts specifics about where and when, it sure will help. I have never been in that area.

smooth 05-30-2004 03:46 PM

The beach doesn't allow drinking, but no one can control what others do with their own opaque cups ;).

Halx 05-30-2004 04:24 PM

All right, I sent out PMs to those who have said they will be there. Let's lay out what we need. Please add to or correct this list...

Food:
Steak
Chicken
Corn
Chips
Dip

Drinks:
Soda
Juice
Water
XXX!@#$%^
ICE

Supplies:
Charcoal
Lighter fluid
Matches
Plastic Plates
Plastic silverware
Napkins
Trash bags

Stuff:
Chairs
Fun Activities
Towels
Umbrellas
Sunblock
Coolers

The general rule is: Bring your own. However, if you can, bring enough to accomodate at least one other person because some of us will be bringing guests.

90degree 05-30-2004 11:39 PM

ack.. I may show up later in the day... dont really care to be on the beach all day.. I dont tan.. I burn.. hehehe.

goddfather40 05-31-2004 12:57 AM

I'm in. I will bring a few steaks and drinks. One thing though, if the Lakers close out it out and make it to the finals, I believe a potential Game 4 is that Sunday evening, around 6PM. I would probably want to bounce at that point, or maybe us Lakers fans could go kick it somewhere and watch it???

Halx 05-31-2004 01:00 AM

Oh if the Lakers make it, I'm definately gonna wanna cheer 'em on with you all. No ditchin'!

sillygirl 05-31-2004 09:26 AM

Turns out I'm not gonna be able to make it. :( Maybe next time....

Halx 05-31-2004 02:20 PM

Blasphemy! You must attend!

bparker805 06-02-2004 07:10 PM

I am officially pulling my name out of the hat. Its looking like I am going to have to work. sorry bout that... but if anyone wants to take chicken wings, PM me and I'll give you a great recipe!

Halx 06-02-2004 07:27 PM

Welcome to the internet - everyone is ALL TALK!

bparker805 06-02-2004 07:55 PM

sorry halx but you dont sign my paychecks

smooth 06-02-2004 10:45 PM

One way to make me feel like a complete dork would be to have me sit around all day on a park bench while no one shows up...yeah, I think that would do it.

Halx 06-02-2004 10:48 PM

Well I'm gonna show up and I'm bringing some friends, so don't worry. I know Mondak says he's comin' and I believe him too. Plus all the others - we're set.

Mondak 06-03-2004 10:34 AM

Yeah it will be fine. Heck - if it is fewer of us, I bet we get to know each other better anyway. Sometimes with too many you are floating around the whole time and you never end up with meaningful conversation.

As far as stuff, I can start with paper plates and cups. I have plenty in my Garage (Costco fiend). Not to say that it all I will bring, but I can start there.

Halx 06-07-2004 01:19 AM

Ok we got a week... i'm gonna round everyone up very soon.

n0nsensical 06-07-2004 04:25 AM

Is anyone going by West Hollywood who could give me a ride? I can help pay for gas but I don't really want to drive that far.

FaderMonkey 06-08-2004 07:53 AM

I know I risk death for doing this, but it looks like I'm going to have to work on the 13th, so I won't be able to make it. :( How late is everyone going to be there? Maybe I'll be able to come later.

Halx 06-08-2004 02:42 PM

*KILLS FADERMONKEY*

Mondak 06-08-2004 09:10 PM

So the question remains - should I show Chasey the thread of Halx doing his thing on the exhiition board before we go or not. . . ?

I think I will just for shits and giggles. I will do it right before we leave so she can have "that look" on her face the whole time we are there. Funny shit.

It is worth coming just for that.

Halx 06-09-2004 12:12 PM

Hahah! So.. uhh.. do you two.. uh.. split up? Ya know? wink wink nudge nudge

Mondak 06-10-2004 09:46 PM

Nah - we are in a total double standard which is BS for her. Mainly that threesomes include other girls never guys.

The other thing is that it used to be more frequent, but it is not good to hook up with people you know or really have any kind of connection to. We are not looking for another spouse, we are just looking to have fun. 99% of people don't understand this and end up both psyco and hurt. Pain in the ass let me tell you. Since we are geting older, we don't tend to find ourselves in situations with strangers who would work all that often lately. We are looking more for toward having a kid than another gal in bed. Maybe those days are behind us - who knows. Our first priority tends to be our relationship and keeping it healthy. Consequences suck.

Besides, if she were to go with you, I have seen your "work". Not a good career move for me. She likes my penis size today. No telling what would happen after that. . . bastard. . .

After that comment though I will HAVE to show her your thread. Funny thing is that you have never seen her. . . at least as far as I know...

Is she ok with you divulging such info.. especially a few days before this? Hahaha

I wouldn't say it if it were not. We have not touched another woman in a couple years because of the above reasons anyway. Lately it is more an interesting novelty than anything else anyway. We can go to a bar and check out chicks and then take out our "frustrations" on each other when we get home.

Oh yeah - and after rereading what I wrote above, when I say we are looking to have a kid, I mean procreate not some young person. We lost our first in January by miscarrage and so we are ready to start trying again.

So in other news, it is Friday and we don't have a final roster of who is going, what we are each bringing and most important, I don't really know where this is - just a general idea.
