Question for only those who live in Canada

I was reading some stuff on energy drinks and such and I feel the need to try out Red Bull. I'm getting kind of sick of coffee and Red Bull sounds like a good idea but I'm having trouble finding it. Any idea where it's sold or if it's sold at all in Canada?

canuckguy 05-06-2004 12:34 PM

i've never seen it, but your best bet to locate it would be a 7-11 store as I've always found them to carry items that I could only get in the states, like PayDay candy bars. I remember my wife saying that 7-11 was the only store she knew that carried Jolt cola, so maybe it might have it. good luck.

I've seen it in Convience Stores... nowhere out of the the ordinary... I can't speak to Montreal as I am in Toronto but you should be able to find it in your local Dep...

You could also see if Red Bull has a website... they might have someone you can call to find out where it is distributed in Canada.

Most bigger convienience stores have 'em. Seen it in grocery stores too.

Poloboy 05-06-2004 04:10 PM

I've never actually gone looking for it, but I have occasionally come across it in small corner stores.

Kaos 05-06-2004 04:37 PM

I've seen them at a bunch of convenience stores around here. Not all of them have it, but the ones that do advertise it on signs out front of their place.

Apparently we don't allow the 'real' stuff, ours is some kind of toned down version. I just heard this, though-might want to research it.

A friend of mine visited singapore not too long ago, and he got hooked on the red bull. It's sold in convience stores and grocery stores sometimes, but it's mostly sold in those 'buy good shit for your body' stores. I can't think of what to call them right now.

However, even though it says you shouldn't mix it with alcohol, you should. It's amazing with alcohol.

We sometimes make buckets of alcohol drinks. One of them being red bull, mixed with.. um... rye maybe?? and some type of pop. Sprite or Coke work fine, but Sprite is the best.

Go check those energy stores or whatever though. You can usually buy them in bulk there.

Also, on the 'real stuff' note, I believe that is just something spread by an invalid source. I have heard the same thing, and have tried the stuff straight from singapore. It tastes exactly the same as the stuff sold here, but comes in different bottles. We can't sell them in big bottles like they do elsewhere, which is where i think the whole story got mixed up. I think it's the same stuff, just sold in smaller bottles.

Oh yeah, a lot of bars sell it too. They sometimes mix it with alcohol, because it's not illegal, yet. I don't think there are any specific health reasons why you can't mix it with alcohol, except for the fact that it makes it so you can drink a hell of a lot more than usual without feeling ill.

Um....not even close to true buddy...

If you do a google search on it, if you drink quite a bit of red bull and alcohol mixed or not - it can actually kill you..

AfterBurn 05-06-2004 09:14 PM

yeah alcohol and red bull isn't a too great of an idea. I'm also thinking about getting that jolt gum stuff, nothing's better than coffee in gum..too bad it's so hard to find :(

Last time I checked, Red Bull was available by the case at Superstore. At one point they had it at Costco too, but I've never seen it at an Albertan Costco. You lucky Quebecois get to buy alcohol at Costco, (unrelated, I know) so perhaps you can find red bull too.

For a while, late 90s, Red Bull was not allowed to be imported into Canada for a while because of the taurine in it. The concern has since been debunked, but the Canadian drug people take far too long to check things out.

I've drank more then my share of redbull and vodka. I honestly don't think there are real health concerns with the mix. Three possibly related deaths in Sweeden, if I recall. It does have a dose of caffeine, which will dehydrate you along with alcohol, and the taurine does add to the effect. But eating a plate of seafood, having a drink with it, then having an after dinner coffee will give you the exact ingredients in comparable quantities. If you do it all night in a club, you might have some issues. But you'll find many worse things to put into your body at the clubs as well, all of which can 100% claim many more deaths then the 3 that red bull might have been a factor in.

I even had licensed professional nutrionist recommend it as part of a training program back when I was athletic. Although I eventually changed to Met-RX, which is quite similar. Actually, I was in GNC the other day (assuming that they have GNC nutrition stores in the Montreal area) and they had a 'house brand' red bull that is probably just as good and cheaper.

edit - London Drugs. I think it might be a westren chain, but some of them carry red bull as well. try drugstores.

I don't know about you easteners, but over here in B.C. they don't sell Red Bul, anywhere! I was told it was illegal here in canada, but I guess not, but regardless if you live anywhere near here, good luck finding it :)

Bob Biter 05-16-2004 09:50 PM

Being from Montreal myself, I can tell you that there is NO RED BULL THERE, unless they stocked up on it after I left for Japan last July. You'll have to make due with the crappy subsitutes that come in pretty, shiny cans, like Guru and the like.

BTW, brian 1975, there are no 7/11's in Quebec. No Taco Bell, either. I understand why the latter isn't here, but not the former.

Speaking of which, I recently found out that the 7/11 chain now belongs to the Japanese. No Big Gulps or Reb Bull over here, though. Everything's so uneven these days...

Most folks I know have to make a border run for Red Bull

That's interesting, because here in Victoria, it's pretty easy to find. I've seen 7-11's and other convenience stores carry it but the best places to get it are small grocery stores in Chinatown.

Um. I live in Montreal 8 months out of the year (I go to McGill), and I have NO trouble finding Red Bull. One place I can GUARANTEE that has it is Tabagie McGill on the corner of University and Sherbrooke, just next to the Tim Horton's (I got it there weekly... studying requires defying sleep). Lots of $.99 pizza stores have it on St. Catherine and Sherbrooke... Lots of places in the downtown area stock it. I had no trouble finding it.

Oh, and this is the real kind too. In the states, we have a canned version that's carbonated, watered down, and it tastes like shit. The stuff you're looking for is in a small (10 cm tall), brown glass bottle. It has Red Bull in English and another language (Thai? something like that). It's good stuff. Reminds me of Dimetapp.

Yeah, so there IS a real version and a fake version. I've had them both. The mass-marketed one sold in the US (and a few places I've seen in Montreal) is the fake one. The one in little glass bottles is the real one.

Is Red Bull Energy Drink the same all over the world?

The composition and the ingredients of Red BullŪ Energy Drink are the same all over the world, except for slight variations in the vitamin content due to national regulations.

mokle 05-18-2004 08:07 PM

I've found 2 versions of redbull in canada:

The carbonated kind, which is the same as you gt in the US, and a type of 'concentrate' form, great for mixing with vodka.

The carbonated kind had the normal caffeine rush, the concentrated kind just tasted like it, with none of the good side effects.

Fly 05-18-2004 08:13 PM

i'll stick to the pot and wobbly pops myself...........

haven't seen,nor heard of it.
