Summer jobs

Well, another school year is winding down and its almost summer time. So what are you doing for employment this summer, especially you college students. My dad is really on me to find a job and I don't know where to go or who is hiring just for this summer season.

When college lets out I'm going to be a union painter for the summer. They have a thing called "summer help" that allows college kids to work without going through all the training and union fees.

Hooray for pharmacy internships. Fantastic pay and good hours. I never work a night nor a sunday, and only like 1 in 4 saturdays.

I'm actually keeping the job I had during the school year.

The pay sucks, the job sucks... but on the plus side, I don't have to spend all the time looking for a job I'm not going to get.

I spent the last two years looking for a job and this was the first one I got.

Probably the Supermarket.

I live in a rural area, so while I probably could get a better paying job in the city, when you factor in the commute time + bus fare in and out everyday, etc, it would more then likely work out that I am better off just staying local.

Sadly (although I love my job), I no longer get to do something else for the summer. Same old same old...

I sure do miss the academic schedule.

You could try to lifeguard... it usually guarentees a job and not too bad pay... if you aren't getting anything now. (And you can lifeguard at pools)
Also nursing homes are looking for people a lot of the times.

Yes, that is the hardest part of getting off the academic treadmill: that from now one, you now have to do _the same thing all year long,_ with maybe a two-week break. Having summer vacation from school, getting a job and doing something different -- it makes life interesting.

Of course now I'm back in school to get a teaching certificate, and with luck I'll land a teaching job and, once again, have 10 or 11 weeks off every summer. Kind of makes up for the crappy pay.

Every summer I go to a temp agency and get a random job through them. The people at the temp agency know me and usually get me a decent job. It's great for the summer, because it's always somethign different and they know that I will only be there for 3.5 months. Temp jobs usually pay fairly well too. Sure as hell beats retail

Probably be working two part time jobs this summer. Be working at the local Go-Kart track, some repair work but mostly watching the little brats drive around. I may also be laying concrete/asphalt for a friend's father's new company. It may turn into four jobs if I end up driving for NAPA again, and the usual landscaping work on the side.

they said they only get like 10 calls a day, and other than that, and signing for stuff from UPS, i can read, watch tv or surf the net all i want...so i'll probably be posting on TFP a lot.

Probably sacking groceries or something along those lines. I'm still hoping I get a job at the new ice rink and maybe get to learn how to drive the zamboni, but chances are slim...

Always boggles me how you can survive DURING your semester w/out a job...

I work a good 18-22 hours a week during each college semester, without that I wouldnt be very healthy. Its also nice to have spending cash during the semester.

Yeah, i wouldn't be able to survive each semester if I didnt have a job. I need cash to buy things and it keeps me from being lazy and sleeping all day. I feel like I actually accomplish a lot more things when I have a job.
