I certainly see your point. I just thought of this as a wasted opportunity to show the world that Americans (at least the vast majority of us) really aren't all that bad. A story about Tillman and the hundreds of thousands like him, might have done a little to offset the recent stories about the Iraqi prisoner fiasco.

Personally, I would rather be rembered for and have my life defined by the type of thing that Pat Tillman did than what Rene Gonzalez did. This will follow him for a long time.

What about all the people that gave up jobs at McDonalds to join the military? They could have been employed at multibillion dollar corporation but instead choose to goto war with one of the poorest countries in the world. Now thats a worthy sacrifice in the name of patriotism.

Yeah, the kid is a complete jagoff. You can tell his apology was bullshit and he only did it because he knew he'd have to or otherwise he'd get a world of shit from everyone. When his ass comes back from war, then MAYBE I'll hear him out when he says that ANYONE who dies in service "has it coming to them." What a fucking prick. Plus, did you ever hear Tillman brag about joining the Army like he made it out to seem like? No. Tillman refused ever to comment on it. Tillman would probably be PISSED that the media is talking about this story so much and want the focus to be turned to EVERYONE who is fighting rather than just him. This kid is a fucking asshole. It's people like him who make me worry about the mental competence of the youth of this nation.
