Another bullshit lawsuit

RENO, Nevada (AP) -- The mother of a 19-year-old killed in a traffic accident is suing Coors Brewing Co., claiming that it promotes underage drinking.

Jodie Pisco, of Reno, contends Coors has failed in its duty to protect the country's youth from drinking. Her son, Ryan, was killed in 2002 after he drank Coors at a party and drove his girlfriend's car into a light pole at 90 mph, the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Washoe County District Court, seeks unspecified damages. It accused Coors of "glorifying a culture of youth, sex and glamour while hiding the dangers of alcohol abuse and addiction."

Laura Sankey, a spokeswoman for Golden, Colorado-based Coors, said that although she could not comment on pending litigation, the company "doesn't want underage consumers -- period."

"Tragedies like this further reinforce why the fight against underage drinking and drunk driving must continue," Sankey told the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Also named in the suit were Ryan Pisco's girlfriend and her mother. The lawsuit alleges the girlfriend allowed Pisco, who lacked a valid driver's license, to drive off in her car, which had been given to her by her mother.

That's so awesome, an underage kid, girlfriend without a license,
stupid parents all around for letting their under 50 children to
even think about driving in a car... And I love how she doesn't
even mention that her kid was underage, a moron, etc...

"Oh no, they don't advertise enough about not drinking and
driving," like every person in America hasn't heard that since
they were 5.

-He-, the "victim", didn't have a driver's license. He shouldn't have been driving sober. Of course, nothing is his fault....

Once again, someone not taking responsibility for his own actions.

Stare At The Sun 04-19-2004 07:13 PM

No liscense, drunk and 90 MPH? I'm suprised Darwin didn't get him earlier.

djtestudo 04-19-2004 07:17 PM

I hope this woman is never able to show her face anywhere agian and has to leave town. Not just suing Coors, which is like suing gunmakers because the weapon happened to be used in a murder, but suing the kid's girlfriend and her mother, too.

I hope the judge hires Randy Johnson so this can get the throwing-out it sorely deserves.

Personally, I'm amazed that, with a mother that obviously raised him poorly and blames others for her problems, he made it that far. She should be prosecuted for child neglect.

mingusfingers 04-19-2004 07:44 PM

Dang. Mother Nature strikes again.

HE is dead, don't blame him, blame his mother for not raising him to not drink and drive. And blame her greedy ass for suing the mother and daughter too.
You know that if the girlfriend had died also, and her family decided to sue the boy's mother, she would just say that he was over 18 and that she wasn't legally responsible.

sexymama 04-19-2004 08:03 PM

IMHO, this is about money, not about loving her son or saving anothers. Sick!

Indeed. At least his stupid ass didn't take anyone out with him, he went alone.

unfortunatly that is what a lot of americans have degraded to. the land of oppertunity where if you can't make money you sue someone else because they can

the amount of malpractice lawsuits is absurd the politicians need to protect doctors because what is going to happen when the brainless and trial lawyers sue them out of existance just another example

Nisses 04-19-2004 11:38 PM

How about I go sue Hustler Magazine for giving my wrist carpal tunnel?

Greedy stupid people are a source of entertainment. Funny how it took her 2 years to realise Coors was behind it all along.

Menoman 04-20-2004 01:37 AM

I'm not sure but I think around 98% percent of the people in the US have a Television. 18-20 year olds on average watch about 3-4 hours of television per day.

How many Sitcoms have serious episodes about drinking and driving? How many commercials are there for it? He was 18 and either a higher classman or graduated. How many fucking assemblies/courses/speakers are there about this kind of shit?

Don't blame him?!?! Agreed, apparently the parenting was not adequate in this situation but it doesnt take a brain surgeon to see how many people die each year because of alcohol and driving.

I do infact blame him.

Xell101 04-20-2004 03:38 AM

Next on the agenda, we will be suing gun companies, for they promote shooting.

He was 19, that's enough life experience that he should have been able to figure something out as simple as drunk driving. He didn't, and now he is dead, his upbringing was inadequate and he was an idiot, now he's two years dead and mommy is suing big alcohol.

Destrox 04-20-2004 03:46 AM

Lawsuit is utter bullshit, and the mother should be fined a few grand for her stupid idea and waisting the courts time.

The kid shouldnt have been drinking, or driving, its his fault. Well, was his fault, he fucked up and paid the price.

While it is his mothers fault, its a good 95% his fault for doing it in the first place, wether he is dead or not.

Hee...

This lawsuit has no merit on any of the charges. It'll be thrown out.

grayman 04-20-2004 05:34 AM

The mere fact that it will take up the court's time just having an initial hearing so it can be thrown out is ridiculous. This is the kind of crap that roving bands of vigilantes should take care of and save the taxpayers some money.

Bill O'Rights 04-20-2004 05:35 AM

What will stop this type of horse crap is heavy fines and/or mandatory jail time coupled with disbarment for attorneys that take on cases like this...and lose. That's the only thing that'll make them ask themselves; "Am I absolutely, without a doubt, positively sure that this case has one iota of merit?"

Not that it'll ever happen. The laws are written by...the lawyers.

What a loving mother, by the way. I just love how she grieves for her son. "My child is dead...woohoo, now I can sue a deep pocket corporation, and be filthy rich."

[rant] Greedy...bastards/bitches...piss...me...off! [/rant]

tkkfan 04-20-2004 06:59 AM

The beer companies go to such extrordinary lengths to insure that if something like this does happen, that they cannot be sued. The fact that some shithead lawyer will take this case is absofuckinlutely absurd. She obviously feels (im assuming thru legal advice) that she has a case.... WTF??!!!

Y'know what really gets me? She'll probably win too. If someone can sue over hot coffee or "so and so made me fat", etc, etc...

...how can a judge and/or jury be persuaded by this bullshit.

They end up focusing on little intricate details rather than the big picture. It is coffee--coffee is hot--don't put it between your legs and drive, bitch.

I hate people

minyn 04-20-2004 07:03 AM

stupid stupid stupid. will someone with SOME common sense please send this OVEREMOTIONAL mothers back home cuz MONEY WONT MAKE YOUR SILLY LITTLE BOY COME HOME! it was HIS decision, and HIS actions. no one can justify what HE does. sorry, thats how life goes.

Is anyone interested in a class-action lawsuit agains Hal for promoting TFP, which, in turn, prevents me form getting work done?

::walks away muttering about idiots::

water_boy1999 04-20-2004 08:00 AM

I truly sympathize with the mother in this story. I sympathize at the fact she has 2 brain cells. One is dedicated to being a stupid ass, the other is dedicated to exerting her stupid ass onto others. Really! I heard this story on the radio yesterday and it is sad. Sad that it has to get this far into the public eye. If any lawyer or judge was in their right mind, they would drop this case like a bad habit. Unfortunately, you know what is going to happen. This greedy bitch will continue to hassle the court system, Coors Brewing will eventually settle out of court just to shut her up. It is pocket change for them.

By a show of hands, can I see how many people are sick and tired of hearing people take advantage of the system that is here to protect us!

SabrinaFair 04-20-2004 08:10 AM

I can't believe she's suing the girlfriend's mother...because she had ANYTHING to do with the incident...

I agree with Bill O'Rights...fine the attorneys who take on these cases. People in my firm make fun of attorneys who are that freakin' dumb and greedy...we call them McLawyers.

My eyes are still rolling from when I read this on CNN.com Sunday night. This woman needs to have her US citizenship revoked so that her stupid doesn't start rubbing off on the rest of the population.

I would have understood if he had maybe died of alcholhol poisoning or something in the beer, but killing yourself while driving drunk at 90 mph with a suspended license in a car you don't own is not the brewery's fault.

denim 04-20-2004 09:44 AM

To Do list
  • Submit story to Darwin Awards
  • Tell the dead guy's mom you did it
  • Run like hell, laughing
  • Win "coldest move of the year" award

From my experience it is entirely too late for that.

Just another example of how every death is such an "unjust tragedy." I am so tired of these self-righteous idiots who refuse to accept that their friend/family member died because they were obviously too stupid to live. Instead the blame must lay elsewhere because surely their "beloved" wasn't that ignorant.

I hope the judge throws this lady's lawsuit out with a resounding "Yes, ma'am. Your son was that dumbass ignorant. He accepted the consequences of his actions and it's time you did as well."

Karby 04-21-2004 05:01 AM

nothing is ever 'their fault' so long as someone else--anyone else--is there to take the blame. i look foward to seeing her suit thrown out the window.

Bamrak 04-21-2004 12:20 PM

Can Coors sue her for not making HIM drink responsibly?

I'm assuming he's still living her roof... People need to get off their asses and be parents or be more responsible for the stupid shit people do.

This is why safety laws should be repealed and negligence lawsuits banned unless it is actually the manufacturers fault. This stuff would eventually weed itself out.
