You cant punish a parent for trying.
Though the parent isnt using the best method. It should be pretty effective nevertheless. Everytime the kid slacks off he will be thinking for his parents are going to blow his brain out.

This makes me sick and angers me to no end.
He does not deserve to be a parent. No child should have the threat of death put on them in order to acheive higher levels of behavior. These children that are traumatized by actions such as this are the very children I long to work with to help them get through the struggles of growing up in a violent, troubled home. Being raised in a home of violence and anger myself, I empathize with these children. I would give my heart and soul to take that feeling out of every child out there.

I still consider that abuse- mental abuse. Poor kid- maybe at least he knows never to mess with a gun. That's the only possible benefit from the incident.
