one of my daughters is a mad fan of Hilary Duff, I can see the appeal of this fine fine young lady, but I just watch her on mtv for like two mintues (okay, it's more like 10), one thing that jumps out is that she's a pretty chubby girl,

she's either pregnant or is having a raging case of depression

Just a normal girl who hasn't succumbed to the hype of Hollywood to be thin as a rail. I don't watch any of her stuff, but have seen her on a few talk shows hawking a new project.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect Hilary to remain the relatively good role model she is (relative to her peers I mean), but she's definitely a REAL person physically and I certainly appreciate that. And if she's chubby, then I like chubby girls apparently. She just looks healthy and not anorexic to me though.

Maybe I'm being a bit too insensitive or whatever, but sheesh.. the girl is 16! She looks like a healthy teenager to me. Just because you can't count her ribs or see every bone in her body does not make her chubby.

I can only agree with most of the posts here....honestly I have no Idea who Hillary Duff is, but anorexia is prevelant among western youth. The attitude portrayed in the origional post is part of the problem.
There is no reason a 16 yr. old should need to be considered "sexy" and if she is avoiding the weight trap this society creates for women, I think that is great.

My girls love Hillery Duff too. I am glad that they look up to a HEALTHY young woman who's self esteem is not dependent on how many of her bones you can see -- but on her personality. And personally, I think she is thin -- she simply has a full figure.

Oh Hillary... Sorry to digress. She's a typical teenager that's all. She is cute and perky, and <I>Not</I> 18. Hopefully she stays away from the "Hollywood" types, and stays herself.

There was a story in People a few years back about how skinny Hollywood in general is getting...they had recent pics of celebrities (I think this was...1999? 2000 maybe?) next to pics of them 5 years before. The "curvier" pictures looked a lot hotter than being able to see ribs and such.

As often as trends are recycled, I'm rather hoping the "so skinny I can count your ribs" trend goes away...look at film stars from the 40's and 50's--you don't get much hotter than Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe, and Greta Garbo.

As someone who actually IS fat, let me assure you Hillary Duff is not fat, or chubby - the culture that tries to tell someone who is her size that they are ugly and fat is a culture that should be opposed and knocked down in every moment.

I second this COMPLETELY!!! IMO quite UNATTRACTIVE to have ur ribs showing and look thinner than a tooth pick! And also, you need someone that will actually eat a full meal with you and enjoy it =D

my comments are based on one viewing of a mtv trailer, with my daughter dancing in front of the tv, so the couple of glances I got it appears that Duff is puff.

I have since watched the Lizzie McGuire movie, the lady does have shots that show she's very on par with the hollywood type, so depending on where have you seen Hilary Duff, she maybe thin, she maybe not, just an observation, need not to go to the extend of role models and stuff,

haven't thought about whether Hilary is a good role model for my kid, I hope I raised an independent woman (okay she's 13) who will form her own opinion of life, and people.
