Question for British Columbians or Canadians

Does anyone know of any colleges in B.C that are easy to get into. My girlfriend doesn't have very good grades, but we'd like to go to college there. We are from America if that makes any difference. How expensive is it to live there?

As for the colleges, have her talk to her high school counselor. Thats what they are there for.

I cant answer the cost of living, I live on the opposite end of the continent ;)

The Universities in BC are very good. They offer very good programs and typically have a high level of applicats. They wont just accept anyone... grades are definitly a factor, especailly for schools like U of Vic and UBC

i live in victoria, bc. There is the university of Victoria which is the local uni, but you can count that out unless you have about 82 % avg. the other one in the city is camosun college. camosun is more carer orientated, but you can transfer over to uvic after 2 years. most programs require a C+ in math and english. other programs requirements are higher. http://camosun.bc.ca/ you can find out all you want to know there. I am in the computer systems technology program right now. Outside of Vancouver island there is the university of BC, but you also need a high grade to get in there. There is Simon-Fraser university as well, I am not sure what the entrance req’s are but I would assume they would be the same as the other uni’s, about 82 %. Hope this help, any questions? sfu = http://www.sfu.ca/ ubc = http://ubc.ca/

UNBC isn't that tough to get into but I dunno if you want to go that far north.

The cost of living depends on where you move.

Where in the province were you looking?
Here are a few:

There's British Columbia Open University
Burnaby, BC
www.bcou.ca

University College of the Cariboo
Kamloops, BC
www.cariboo.bc.ca

Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design
Vancouver, BC
www.eciag.ca

University College of the Fraser Valley
Abbotsford, BC
www.ucfv.ca

Kwantlen University College
Surrey, BC
www.kwantlen.ca

Malaspina University-College
Nanaimo, BC
www.mala.ca

I got the above information using Maclean's Guide to Canadian Universities 2004. It was a little pricey but definitely worth it. Good luck with everything.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

Alberta ?
Isn't that close to Toronto ?

exponent_doobie 04-01-2004 03:27 PM

If you want a cheap, easy to get in college, goto Kwantlen College. Though it's not in a great area in Surrey and Langley :(

World's King 04-01-2004 03:38 PM

Do you mean Columbians that are from England?

Radio Monk33 04-01-2004 03:48 PM

Well...there's Capilano College. Thats where all the people with poor grades in my area go. I think its like a 65% acceptance cut off.

UNBC is good too. Its in the middle of nowhere though.

Kwantlen also has a campus in Richmond.

Douglas - in New Westminster www.douglas.bc.ca

Langara - in Vancouver city www.langara.bc.ca

Capilano - in North Vancouver www.capcollege.bc.ca

You'd probably have to pay international student tuition fees.

What are you two planning on taking at school? Might be able to give you some advice about which schools would be best for certain majors.
