Pretty freaky

I was listening to music and decided to go get some coffee so I go downstairs and turn on the kettle. As I was waiting for the water to boil I looked out through the window right by the front door and I swear I saw my dad walking towards the house with the mail like the same type of walk and the bald head, so I go in the kitchen and clean up wait a minute and look out the window again and nothing. I look in the garage and the car isn't there and like 20 minutes later my dad comes home. I'm begginning to think I hallucinated my dad coming home...Hopefully I'm not mentally ill or anything

Have you been getting much sleep? Lack of sleep can cause hallucinations.

Evil Milkman 03-11-2004 04:22 PM

Ask him when he gets home?

AfterBurn 03-11-2004 04:28 PM

Well I got like 3h of sleep last night but I think you have to be up for like 2 days straight to halluciante

RoboBlaster 03-11-2004 05:19 PM

It's amazing what the mind will make up, even under normal circumstances.

AfterBurn 03-11-2004 05:23 PM

Has this ever happened to anyone? I hope I'm not mentally ill, lol.

Its different for everyone. There is no set sleep pattern that people need. Some can get by on 3, but others may need up to 12 or more to have a good rest.

One of my roommates works entirely too hard and sleeps entirely too little. One time, when he slept extremely little (like 20 minutes here and there) for a couple days, he crashed one night much earlier than he planned and slept the night through. The next day he told me he felt like he lost control of his body and something was controlling him basically telling him "you're going to sleep now."

Crazy stuff.

Very similar situation happened to me. I was under so much stress from school, that I was having an extremely difficult time falling asleep, or even finding the time to sleep. After sleeping a few minutes a night for a few days, I remained awake for 64 consecutive hours. When Saturday rolled around, I slept for 18 consecutive hours, despite my roomates trying their hardest to wake me up.

At least your dad didn't turn up dead. That would have been really weird to have seen him come home then find out he had been killed. Sorry for the depressing nature of this post but it was that firt thing that came to mind.

03-11-2004 07:13 PM

nope, sometimes we experience what we think are dilusions or seeing into the future, but when this happens, it's just a declaration that all of everything, all of life and existance is happening simultaneously. That also goes for deja vu.

fhqwhgads 03-11-2004 07:22 PM

The next time you see this bald imposter carrying the mail to your doorstep, you need to fly out the front door, release an ear piercing scream, and kick him in the crotch as hard as you can.

If it's someone pretending to be your father, this will certainly deter him from future shenanigans. And, if it turns out that it actually is your dad, he probably deserved it anyway.

That's actually a fairly commonly reported phenomena- someone who has just recently passed will appear to someone as doing some normal duty, as returning home from work, when the person may have been killed before they made it home. Very interesting stuff.

Freaky indeed, good story!

I've also read that if someone is desperately wanting to be someplace, (i.e. Boy, I'd sure like to be home right about now!) then stuff like this happens. I understand it's mostly the sounds of footsteps or of that person doing familiar things with few actual full blown sightings.

I'm not a nut, but I've experienced stuff like that before.

There's an actual term for it....I'll have to root around for it. :)

Bobaphat 03-13-2004 12:29 AM

ummm, did you ask him if he started walking up the drive, but then turned around to deal with something he forgot maybe? Could be you didn't halucinate at all...

But he said his dad's car wasn't there either. Unless he drove away.

It wasn't just a bald mailman was it??? ;)

flamingdog 03-13-2004 06:57 AM

Just ask him... That might give you some insight.

MSD 03-14-2004 02:59 PM

Cumulative sleep loss can also cause hallucinations. It doesn't have to be two nights straight.

feelgood 03-14-2004 04:33 PM

Do you see dead people?
