Flesh 01-14-2004 04:54 AM

that's awesome

ratbastid 01-14-2004 05:06 AM

That's SO cool! I love trompe l'oeil artwork.

high_way 01-14-2004 05:09 AM

i love that!!!!!!!! how the hell did they do that?

with some of them i had to double and triple take to make sure i new what it was.

wish we had side walk art here like that... all we got is shitty old graffitti (some of which is good but nothing like that... most of it is just tags and shit like that though)

~springrain 01-14-2004 05:50 AM

those are very cool... great thread!

... the first pic i had to do a double double take to let my eyes "figure it out"... really neat stuff. :)

Ladyhawke 01-14-2004 05:55 AM

talk about haveing wwaaaayyyyyy to much time on your hands.....but they do look awsome

jonb2serment 01-14-2004 05:56 AM

Very nice. Great work finding those.

spived2 01-14-2004 06:18 AM

Wow that is really cool. That first one threw me for a loop too, until I started figuring it out. Neat stuff.

MSD 01-14-2004 09:34 AM

I think we used all of their bandwidth and got the site shut down... oops

For some websites, it seems that bandwidth is like a good dinner: once it's gone, it's gone for good.

Mehoni 01-14-2004 11:32 AM

I saved the pics though, will put them somewhere else.

bermuDa 01-14-2004 11:46 AM

The artists name is Kurt Wenner and his work is simply stunning. here is his site, I'll link to some images here:

http://www.dodger.com/wenner/images/pic-muses2.jpg

http://www.dodger.com/wenner/images/pic-infern.jpg

http://www.dodger.com/wenner/images/pic-dies-irae2.jpg

http://www.dodger.com/wenner/images/pic-absolute.jpg

Seen from the right angle, the images seem to distort reality and the subjects appear to pop right out of the ground. Wenner is a master of perspective, no doubt.

gilada 01-14-2004 02:30 PM

Wow, those are amazing, the most awesome, bad-ass red x's I've ever seen.

Just kidding...

Yeah, those are great, to bad they only work from one angle.

sadistikdreams 01-14-2004 04:27 PM

Wow. Talk about perspective. It's terriblely hard to figure out.

Homey_V 01-14-2004 04:37 PM

Simply Fantastic...

thephuse 01-14-2004 04:40 PM

wow.. thass cool.. I remember the fake window with light coming out in the main lobby in NY's Grand Central.. too bad its gone now.. that was cool

JohnS72 01-14-2004 05:35 PM

Am I the only moron who thought he was looking at a picture of a real pool? :-p

Esoteric 01-14-2004 05:47 PM

Wow that is amazing. Very cool.

moonstrucksoul 01-14-2004 06:25 PM

that is the best i have ever seen, i love three dimensional art.
makes me want to paint.

Destrox 01-14-2004 07:29 PM

THat is in the top ten list of best artist i've ever seen.

Hell, top 3.

PulpMind 01-14-2004 07:37 PM

my roomate says "that's kind of cool... that's really cool, actually"
I agree... though, I think he should of actually painted that stuff on the sidewalk... it looks like photochopped into photos, 'eh?

glytch 01-14-2004 07:43 PM

That's amazing, that's all I can think of to say about it.
On a side note...has anyone else ever seen these pieces from a different angle? I'll bet it looks quite a bit different.

nash 01-14-2004 07:51 PM

Makes me dizzy!

HamiC 01-14-2004 08:47 PM

Beautiful stuff. To think that someone's mind could "see" and then produce such things is pretty humbling. That takes quite a bit of talent.

feelgood 01-14-2004 09:36 PM

Excellent excellent work! I wonder why I never heard of the artist and his work until now...

Kudos to the artist!

Why would people be trying to be part of the picture if there were no actual picture painted on the ground. The very first pic (which at the moment is rexxed) is a very good example.

nukeu666 01-15-2004 05:09 AM

cool!
i didnt figure out till the 3rd pic

neddy65 01-15-2004 06:04 AM

Holy Cow!!!
Gotta show some people this stuff cause it blew me away!

Cycler 01-15-2004 07:01 AM

Double, triple takes to get that in my head. I think I would actually have trouble walking across some of those, eyes lying to your brain.

TheBrit 01-15-2004 08:45 AM

Those are all really amazing. I see those in London once in a blue moon, would be excellent to see them more often.

Minx 01-15-2004 09:46 AM

I was thinking the same thing myself!

What amazing pictures! A few of them had me doing a few double takes to make sure I was seeing right!

BentNotTwisted 01-15-2004 10:45 AM

Amazing. Am I the only one who noticed the anomoly in the second pic that BermuDa posted? People were posed so they stand exactly on the rocks at the top of the picture. One woman is actually straddling between two rocks with a very unnatural pose. I would loke to try walking across one just to see what kind of vertigo I feel.

onodrim 01-15-2004 11:00 AM

Wow, those are absoluelty incredible! Like other people here, it took me a minute to figure out just what I was looking at. Very cool, thanks for sharing! :)

nash 01-15-2004 11:17 AM

In the first picture, the beer bottle and mug on the left are real!

present_future 01-15-2004 11:59 AM

Those are awesome. I can't even imagine how long it would take to paint one of those.

soopadoopa 01-15-2004 03:59 PM

I don't know what to say. These images are just incredible. Kind of like pianists who never had music lessons or play by ear. It's a gift, not something that was learned or taught.

Vespertine 01-15-2004 06:05 PM

Those are awesome...

There's a guy at the local mall around here that does things like that on a smaller scale. Usually just hands them out for donations and such. Very cool.

Snakebyt 01-15-2004 06:13 PM

thats bad ass.. would love to have that talent

krwlz 01-15-2004 06:30 PM

Very cool, that first one had me not sure what was real and what was painted.

Nice find.

Waste 01-15-2004 06:34 PM

Damn...Nice freaking pics :) The things they can do nowadays

Kllr Wolf 01-15-2004 06:36 PM

that is some skill to do that. love the way the angle makes it 3D like.

TerresqueÜ 01-15-2004 06:56 PM

That's simply amazing. People, if you have any talent for drawing what so ever, use it!

KWSN 01-15-2004 07:00 PM

I had to look hard to tell that the guy on the right in the first picture is real.

That is so awesome

powerclown 01-15-2004 08:54 PM

very cool...

tritium 01-15-2004 10:08 PM

Learn something new every day.

matthew330 01-16-2004 08:26 AM

That is reallly cool, the first one is still throwing me off a little bit.

hklong741 01-16-2004 02:00 PM

Most Excellent.

Those would be the only murals I would allow, as Supreme Ruler.

tommyboy 01-16-2004 03:21 PM

amazing what some people can do

diergray 01-16-2004 05:23 PM

They are stunning. It really looks like that guys leg is going in the pool.

otnorot 01-16-2004 06:43 PM

That is really cool, but it only works at that one position and angle.

mrbuck12000 01-16-2004 08:56 PM

A freind sent these to me today and i couldn't remember where i saw them....well by gosh by golly i saw them on the TFP first.
this place is way ahead of the game.

mr b

actionoreos 01-16-2004 09:08 PM

holy hell some of those Wenners are creepy. thanks for sharing those

Jephree 01-17-2004 12:57 AM

Nice post.....Giving people flashbacks.

SiNai 01-17-2004 08:41 PM

Ha, in the first picture the fake glass and bottle look more realistic than then real ones! On the other hand, the fly seemed too fake to me..

yakimushi 01-17-2004 11:12 PM

I can't even image wrapping my head around the perspective to produce the image.

That is absolutely incredible.

genious 01-17-2004 11:51 PM

wow, i've never seen any art like that awesome stuff.

Milopost 01-18-2004 07:15 AM

Im finding it hard to imagine what they would look like from the otherside of those paintings. I guess the image just wouldnt make sense, because your brain wouldnt be fooled at looking at something 3d, rather just colours on a 2d surface, while you'd be struggling to picture the depth. eh, what am i saying...

ok, it kinda reminds me of those sponsor logos they have in football and cricket matches which are painted to look like the logo only from the main camera box, but from everywhere else it just looks like warped shite :p

Fly 01-18-2004 07:34 AM

freakin' amazing............

that dude is an awesome artist..........

muckluck 01-18-2004 08:05 AM

Those pictures are brilliant. At first I thought that was a real notebook on the sidewalk...

Sun Tzu 01-18-2004 06:07 PM

I wonder how much he would charge to do a ceiling.

Cursive 01-18-2004 06:09 PM

damn, those pictures are amazin, must be some talented artists

Yes, and I think the guy on the right is real. It's my guess the artist drew the character on the left and had his photograph taken as the guy on the right.

Frowning Budah 01-19-2004 08:54 PM

The guy has a terrific sense of perspective and whimsy. Something we need a lot more of.

tritium 01-19-2004 10:47 PM

I can't imagine how long it takes to become proficient in this artform. Simply incredible, even on the second look.

mr_mcrafe 01-19-2004 11:50 PM

That is absolutely amazing. Just imagine the skill involved. I want to see what they look like from other angles...

illesturban 01-20-2004 12:11 AM

that is just hella amazing. Really awesome. I gotta show this to people... I actually had to look at that top one with the two guys on the sidewalk drawing, wondering what was so "mind blowing" about it, only to realize that the guy on the left was just a drawing on the ground. really cool!

KUGR 01-20-2004 12:18 AM

Very very cool!

rider6061 01-20-2004 02:12 PM

That is too cool!
the attention to detail is incredible!

hotzot 01-21-2004 05:15 AM

excellent temp art!

indiretto 01-29-2004 11:48 AM

That’s really cool. I takes a lot of talent to make those look so real.

Grondar 01-29-2004 12:21 PM

Does anyone know where these are generally painted?

Is it in America, or Europe?

Has anyone seen one of these in person? I'd imagine it would be very impressive to witness.

skier 01-29-2004 12:33 PM

They look like european locales. I would also enjoy seeing some of his work up close.

EruptiveDreamz 01-29-2004 12:55 PM

Those are awesome. Wish I had that talent or better yet the artisit's to do my walls and ceilings with sences like those.

Rawrr 01-29-2004 01:07 PM

wow that first one was crazy had to look at it a few times!!

01-29-2004 01:10 PM

wow, that is cool! Where's that at? NY?

shimmy1 01-29-2004 01:28 PM

I've seen these before, but they still amaze me when I see them. I love the one with the seal.

dnd 01-29-2004 04:07 PM

those are some amazing images, takes some serious talent to paint/draw those. i wonder if he was busking or was paid for it?

Glad-I-Ate-Her 01-29-2004 07:38 PM

Stunning pics. When I was in Paris a few years ago, I remember seeing one of these paintings being done. The guy was about a third of the way done when I was there. It still looked awesome. Some of the tourists were asking him questions. The artists said that it takes him the better part of the day. He tries to do it when it isn't going to rain for a few days. He applies a clear sealant to try to preserve it as long as possible. He had a box for donations. I through in a couple of francs. I didn't have a chance to go back and see it done. I would have loved to see if finished.

Glad

n0b 01-29-2004 08:28 PM

Amazing artwork... simply mind-bending!

fnaqzna 01-29-2004 10:42 PM

Amazing!

Confederate 01-29-2004 10:45 PM

I saw this in an email not too long ago, this guy is simply amazing, If i had 1/4 this guys artistic talent I would be set.

aarchaon 01-30-2004 05:00 AM

http://www.dodger.com/wenner/images/pic-dies-irae2.jpg

This is just so awesome, I wish I had this kind of talent.

punx1325 01-30-2004 08:25 PM

Now that is real art!

bigbad 01-31-2004 03:42 AM

One of my goals in life now is to see an example of this first hand.

mbchills 01-31-2004 12:49 PM

so its all actually 2d ?

MacGnG 01-31-2004 01:18 PM

wow thats so cool, i wouldnt even walk over those how could you

tuffrr 02-01-2004 03:06 PM

Wow, that is really impressive. Is that done with chalk as well?

02-01-2004 03:40 PM

mindblowing is correct. WOW

NeverBorn 02-01-2004 06:33 PM

wow...

ARTelevision 02-01-2004 06:41 PM

...the juxtaposition of two realities - the esthetic and the quotidian - is always significant. These are some of the best, are they not?

orphen 02-01-2004 07:40 PM

I am impressed. those are definately awsome

Rodney 02-01-2004 08:39 PM

What's even more fun is that the artist works in chalk -- or, something like chalk only tougher. So these wonderful pieces of art are not permanent. They'll eventually wear away, some in just a few days and some in a few months; depends on the environment and how much they're walked on/driven over.

OracleEyes 02-02-2004 04:22 PM

How in the world does someone come up with something like that, seriously i mean, is it just like. ......I gotta make a picture that looks like its sticking out of the ground with nothing but a crayon and a can of goo....

Very amazing... The depth with which each rendering seems to have is incredible.

stash 02-03-2004 07:11 PM

awesome

Jizzosh 02-04-2004 01:37 AM

Wow. Just, wow.

Someday I'll have a 1/10th as much talent as that...

fallen_angel 02-04-2004 02:47 AM

thats just amazing i thought the first were dummy dolls, but i finally got the massage. that is some great work and he deserves to be known as one of the few greats of the 21st century in my book.
