Boy 'pregnant' with twin brother

A seven-year-old boy who was admitted to hospital with stomach pains was actually "pregnant" with his twin brother.

Doctors at Chimkent Children's Hospital in Kazakhstan originally believed Mourat Zhanaidarov was suffering from a cyst.

But during surgery, they discovered he was in fact carrying the dead foetus of his twin brother.

The foetus had developed into a tumour but was found to have hair, nails and bones.

'No longer alive'

Doctors at the hospital told the BBC the tumour was the remains of his twin brother's foetus.

They said that while it was no longer a living substance it was feeding off the boy's blood supply.

If left unchecked it could one day have threatened Mourat's own life.

The tumour has now been successfully removed.

It is believed that the foetus grew inside Mourat while he was developing in the womb.

Doctors believe the two foetuses should have developed into conjoined twins.

"At first we saw that the boy's organs were squeezed by a large hard swelling covered with black hair," one surgeon told a British newspaper.

"As we washed him, we could see that inside him he had his own twin brother. Mourat had been a Siamese twin but nobody knew it.

"Something had gone wrong during his mother's pregnancy and the baby grew inside his brother."

Valentina Vostrikova, chief surgeon at Chimkent Children's Hospital, told the newspaper: "It was remarkable. For seven years it lived like a parasite inside the boy's body."

Doctors at the hospital told the BBC they were unable to explain the phenomenon.

They suggested a number of factors could have played a role, including malnutrition in the mother.

sixate 05-01-2003 02:13 AM

WTF!?! I have a hard time believing this.

oane 05-01-2003 03:24 AM

Yeah, read it on Google news aswell. Pretty strange, but these things happen.

Shadowman 05-01-2003 04:31 AM

A girl I went to school with had the exact same thing in her, but it was her twin sister. She didn't realise she had it until she was 15. Scary Stuff!

The_Dude 05-01-2003 04:35 AM

oh man, i feel real sorry for the boy

blkdmnd 05-01-2003 05:05 AM

It's...ALIVE!!!!!

gov135 05-01-2003 06:30 AM

UHHH... I mean, do you name it? Give it a Christian burial? Visit the gravesite? Take your grandkids to the cemetary one day and tell them about Benny, the twin brother you had inside you the first eight years of your life?

Wile E 05-01-2003 06:40 AM

So who is going to pay for this kids psychiatry bills for the next 40yrs of his life? Thats gotta fuck you up a little.

Cuball 05-01-2003 06:45 AM

that's crazy !

forgotten_dream 05-01-2003 07:06 AM

That's too freakin wierd....

Minus000 05-01-2003 07:46 AM

I think this a rare occorence that does happen. I have actually seen a documentry where the removed one of these tumors. Bizzare stuff. It was just a lump of underdeveloped fetus with some hair, no eyes, a couple teeth and somebones.

bender 05-01-2003 07:55 AM

Oh man thats just not right !!
You have to feel for the kid.

rsl12 05-01-2003 07:57 AM

yuck.

but what if this was the way jesus was born? doesn't sound like such an immaculate conception to me... ewww

MSD 05-01-2003 08:30 AM

One of my friends claims that he has small parts of his twin inside him, half-eyeball, fingernail, hairs. I think he was probably just making iti up, but it'sinteresting to know that it does happen.

Mango 05-01-2003 09:29 AM

I can only come up with a comment suitable for stile's forum so I will just say, "bizzare."

Somenosuke 05-01-2003 09:36 AM

I watched a special on TLC in March about odd occurrences with pregnancies. This very same thing happened to another little boy, but the tumor was removed when he was still an infant. You could tell it was supposed to have been another baby. It was pretty gross. They said on the show that the boy's body actually formed around his twin brother, which is why it was trapped in his stomach. It's very rare for such a thing to happen, but it does.

Sparky 05-01-2003 11:28 AM

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
**bangs head on desk trying to get visual out of head**

GakFace 05-01-2003 12:29 PM

wow.. sucks to be him....

I didn't know that could happen... freaky.

WhoaitsZ 05-01-2003 03:28 PM

just for the record.... this is the only thing i've read in years that made me think "damn i wish i would had ate before clicking this link" :(

(pointless message but damn it disturbed me)

Frosstbyte 05-01-2003 04:05 PM

I read this earlier today. That's just bizarre. I can't figure out how it would've just grown into him like that. Must've been pretty shocking to be those doctors.

Motry Latchman 05-01-2003 05:15 PM

Anyone remember an X-files epsiode with something like this? In the show the "fetus" thing was alive and would detach itself at times to go attack other people. It was a pretty good epsiode, IMHO. I'm sure there are true fans out there who know the season, title etc. of the show I'm thinking of.

forseti-6 05-01-2003 05:56 PM

That's so gross. You'd think they would have caught it earlier.

snowy 05-01-2003 06:03 PM

That is just incredibly bizarre. Makes me want to do more research though. Hmm...wonder what other strange things occur during pregnancy...I bet there are tons.

imemine 05-01-2003 08:36 PM

That's messed up...
I thought of this before tho...
I'm messed up...

I remember an episode like that.. But it certianly wasnt as disturbing as this because it was fictional. I can see your point though. I think that the X-Files series was pretty good overall.

Anyway, back to the point. Yeah, I feel for the kid. It doesn't really help that hes living where he is either.

JohneySupernuts 05-01-2003 09:07 PM

beyond weird.. can't say that I'd like to see that.. or even have heard about it...

KBilly 05-01-2003 09:16 PM

I doubt it's true, but either way, it's still very messed up.

05-01-2003 09:18 PM

Visit any pathology website and you'll see similar things..

redrum 05-01-2003 10:23 PM

somethings you just do not share, the doctors should have kept it under thier hats, and not told the child. It is most disturbing to us as public, imagine whats going though the kids head.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/2987963.stm <---- It's from the BBC. This is not some tabloid story - it is true.

I'm hoping that while this is public information they did not actually tell the boy what it was. It's just too weird and complicated for him to even understand it.

juanvaldes 05-01-2003 10:46 PM

life: What a fucking crazy thing.

JNshorty 05-01-2003 10:56 PM

Kinda kills the idea of innocence, to kill your brother before you even exit the woom... Now I know its not their fault but stilll.....
scary stuff

mike 05-02-2003 02:41 AM

brother? No...just fucked up nature... The kid did nothing to kill his "brother". Man...get a grip...

Destrox 05-02-2003 02:54 AM

I wouldnt go as far as to say it was his brother...
The thing could have been, but wasnt.

But this brings up the whole "living mind" thing, and that really brings the stupid out of people.

Ashton 05-02-2003 03:24 AM

Nasty...... sounds like something from the Star, I bet Batboy had something to do with it!

MikeyChalupa 05-02-2003 03:43 AM

After seven years? The dead tissue would not have poisoned the boy before that? I dunno... I think this stretched the ol' boundaries...
