Optimist or Pessimist?

I am a huuuuuuge optimist. I try to pass it onto all my friends. I just think it's a good way to look at life. Why think so negative and be unhappy? Thinking things will work out has helped me with a lot of things and makes life simplier and more enjoyable.

spectre 11-17-2003 04:59 PM

Optimist, always. I've been told with certainty that I should have died on more than one occasion. Optimism has served me well. :)

forseti-6 11-17-2003 06:14 PM

I'm a very optimistic person. I subscribe to the doctrine "in every bad there is much much good"

SofaKing 11-17-2003 06:16 PM

Huge optimist here as well, always have been, always will be.

GakFace 11-17-2003 06:28 PM

Optimist here too. Why be angry when you can laugh every five minutes? ;) Being happy is the way to live life, and it makes everything so much more enjoyable.

Miserlou 11-17-2003 06:36 PM

I'm a pessimist. I don't like being one either, I try to change my outlook but it just isn't the way I am. Funny how I choose optimist as friends. It might be an "opposites attract type thing" because I have a good friend who is an extreme optimist, when comes to decision making and the like our outlooks tend to cancel each other out, so we come up with something somewhere in between.

Harshaw 11-17-2003 06:39 PM

Pessimist, I wasn't always this way. But I do have my oppimistic moments.

Nefir 11-17-2003 06:54 PM

I am definitely an optimist. I believe people are generally good, that the world is a mostly fair place, and that I've got a growing truckload of good karma coupons waiting to be redeemed one day. :D

krwlz 11-17-2003 08:16 PM

Im a pessamist. At least other people think so, I prefer realist.

World's King 11-17-2003 08:31 PM

Pessimist.

Everything sucks.

bundy 11-17-2003 08:42 PM

i´m a bit of a pessimist.
well, maybe i´m just a cynical optimist... is that possible?

Mael 11-17-2003 09:34 PM

i'm an optimistic pessimist. i'm always gonna expect the worst, even though i naively hope for the best. even though i know that's not gonna happen.

taliendo 11-17-2003 09:47 PM

i love being an optomist. the world is brighter that way, even when its raining.

analog 11-18-2003 12:11 AM

i'm really both, depending on the situation. It seems that many things in my life get the optimist in me, but certain things still have me perpetually pessimistic, like girls. I ALWAYS assume i'll never get anywhere, find what i'm looking for, and that they won't find me attractive, etc. But in most things in life i'm fairly optimistic, tempered with realism.

tricks 11-18-2003 12:21 AM

I used to be an optimist. Seeing people screw each other over changed my mind.

datalink7 11-18-2003 12:39 AM

Skepticist :)

j03th3j3w 11-18-2003 01:29 AM

always look at the good side of things... optimist would be me!

CSflim 11-18-2003 01:36 AM

realist

Snoogans 11-18-2003 03:00 AM

Optimist.

Life is awesome.

JoenOcoee 11-18-2003 03:27 AM

I'm a realist...

The glass is half full of something that gives me a rash.

jvwgtr 11-18-2003 04:16 AM

I try to be optimistic. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

ARTelevision 11-18-2003 04:44 AM

I don't mean to not answer directly, so I'll at least include the word "optimist" in my self-characterization.

There is nothing more central to my world-view than honing a working conception of "realism". I'd say I am a realist. But as I consistently emphasize the positive aspects of things, I can say I'm a realistic optimist.

onodrim 11-18-2003 06:37 AM

While I do have my bad days like everyone else, I'd say overall I'm an optimistic person. I always try to find the good in any situation.

Regziever 11-18-2003 06:40 AM

I'm a fullblooded Pessimist, expect the worst and you'll get nothing but happy suprises or right to gloat in that you were right all along..

TheBrit 11-18-2003 06:52 AM

Engineer: The glass has 100% redundency, capacity wise.

DownwardSpiral 11-18-2003 07:13 AM

Pessimistic here, no idea why though.

Bloodslick 11-18-2003 07:14 AM

I'm an optimist in relationships, a pessimist in most other things. I tend not to try things that I'm not sure I will succeed at. It leaves my expectations constantly high, but with very few expectations. What would that qualify me as?

wannabenakid247 11-18-2003 07:20 AM

An optimist however i do avoid thinking about death. I think its important to enjoy life.

splck 11-18-2003 07:33 AM

optimist for sure.

skysooner 11-18-2003 08:20 AM

It kind of depends on the situation. I'm optimistic sometimes, but I also get pessimistic when it comes to situations where I know something is not likely to happen (i.e. trying to recruit volunteers at church to do anything is ridiculously hard and even then they will gripe and moan the whole time).

dragon2fire 11-18-2003 09:14 AM

neither

i expect the worse but dont dwell on it

i guess i am more of a cynic then any thing

Dano069 11-18-2003 09:31 AM

Dano = Eeyore

'nuff said.

sailor 11-18-2003 09:33 AM

I dont think Im a pessimist, but rather a realist. A lot of my friends call me a pessimist though, so I voted pessimist.

rogue49 11-18-2003 12:22 PM

I'm not negative so I'm not a pessimist.
However, I do know the shit in life and what people do in it,
but I still try to look on the good side of things and move forward.

So I'd say a cynical optimist.

anti fishstick 11-18-2003 12:29 PM

i'm not sure if you can really fit me into one of these categories. but i chose pessimism, at my core. i'd like to think of myself as a "learned optimist" though because i have, for the most part, a pretty good outlook on everything. but i'm also a realist, so some people might mistake it for pessimism. why be optimistic for world peace when you KNOW that is never going to happen. i may hope it will, but lets be realistic.

SecretMethod70 11-18-2003 01:25 PM

Generally speaking, I'm an optimist. Moreso when I'm at work because that's just the environment we keep, but also elsewhere. No sense in getting all hung up about most things.

Of course, there are also things that I do get hung up about, and in those cases I'm a pessimist. But not too often.

arael 11-18-2003 03:41 PM

Generally an optimist. Depends really though.

txlovely 11-18-2003 05:02 PM

If you don't allow yourself the release of looking forward to what may come, then why live? I like to say I'm a realist. To some that can sometimes translate to pessimist, but that's just unrealistic... ;)

sexymama 11-18-2003 05:28 PM

Most people say I'm optomistic. I would tend to say realistic with a positive outlook.

jw_toyboy 11-18-2003 08:42 PM

I have a very optimistic view of life in generall... however I am quite the cynical pesimist when someone/something irks me.
