Is it just me that feels weird when I have to tell someone my name?
eg. When I introduce myself to someone, and say "Hi, my name is Bob" it kinda just makes me cringe.
Is this normal? Does this happen to anyone else??

Hearing my FULL name makes me cringe. Only my immediate family calls me by my unabbreviated name, everyone else goes by the shortened nickname version.

hearing my full name would be weird, but thats mainly because I have two middle names, its a rare occasion to have someone say it all.

Well it only gets officially weird if you start referring to yourself in the third person. Then you're either a weirdo or a presidential candidate whose advisers told them some nonsense about "increased name recognition" or something.

I met someone else with my name recently, and it's not a terribly common name (Marcy), and it was so weird saying her name all night. I kept having to say "the other Marcy". Strange.

Actually my complete full name only contains six letters so a majority of my friends don't call me by my first name but call me by my full name -- so I've got to say no -- Saying my own name is not all that weird at all....

I had an ex-girlfriend that freaked out everytime I said her name, especially when we were talking online. I think its weird to hear your own name when you are talking with someone you have a serious relationship with, but saying my own name to myself isn't too big of a deal imo.

It does kinda sound weird to me, but that's just because no one can pronounce my name. I usually just go by a nickname, but I just cringe when Americans try to say my full name.

I like saying my own name...then again, I like my name.

I don't think it's weird to say the name of someone you're in a relationship with. My parents still call each other by name, and they've been married for 21 years. And I get a chill every time my man says, "Sabrina" in that special voice reserved only for me.

Marcy! That is my absolute favorite name. I wanted to name my daughter that but hubby vetoed it. Just didn't have the same ring for him. I love that name - I'm jealous. My mother wanted to name me Marcy but her mother (who was controlling) didn't want it so she decided on Heather instead.

I had a close friend in college who's name was Heather. It was kinda strange to call someone else by my name. Also when I got married and started using a different last name it felt wierd. Haven't felt odd saying my name in general under normal circumstances. I tend to shy away from mentioning my middle name "Gay" since it almost inevitably gets an odd look.

I think most people think that when they say their own name. Especially when your parents say it in full instead of your short nickname. That sucks

nope, but what i do find wierd is have to be around some one with the same name as I.

my isnt to common around here and i only met one other guy with it in the last 5 years.

i kinda felt sorry for 3 guys in grade 2 who were named micheal and in the same class. talk about loss of individuality.

I love my name and say it as often as possible, everyone else does too. It's a good name, people seem to get a real kick out of saying it out loud like the kid from "South Park".
I've only met one other person named Timmy in Sweden, so it's pretty unique.

It was odd saying my name at first, but now I have had to introduce myself so much recently I am kinda used to it now. So eventually, especially if you're a business major or in business, you will become accustomed to saying it.

However, I do avoid addressing (by first name) other people that share my first name. For example, I'll say, "Hi Mr. ____" instead of using our common first name.

Not a problem for me. I have to do it so often that it's become routine.

At work we refer to ourselves as "Meetings R Us". We are always in meetings with people who don't know us, so we just get used to introducing ourselves. The harder part is when we have to describe our job or agency. You always have to pause and think about who you're representing at the meeting.

For me it's weird because my last name is so...foreign sounding, (it's Finnish) while my first is so plain (Ryan). I sort of feel ripped off that my whole name isn't cool sounding. Also I recently learned I've been basically pronouncing my surname incorrectly.
So now everytime I hear it pronounced the incorrect way, I cringe.

Sometimes i get called tommo, although not too often, but it's sometimes a little dishearting when we're hanging out and someone says tommo and they're actually talking to him and not me

YES! i feel weird all the time. especially when i was younger. now it isn't so bad because i've found a way to 'fix' that problem. but every once in awhile, it still sounds weird to say my own name. my last name too.

but for my first name, i just pretend i'm saying janet jackson. without the jackson part ;P

they encourage you to get really comfortable saying it, as well as developing a rhythm... so that ...´this is [enter your name here] for BBC...´ is easy and memorable.

its hard when you kind of have a longish and not overly common name though...
