Cat vs. Dog

I realize this isn't the most original poll ever, but I am still curious as to how many of you prefer a cat to a dog, and vice versa. I have a theory that most women prefer cats, and most men prefer dogs... Why that would be, I don't know, but it's just my personal experience. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this seemingly meaningless topic.

Well this was SUPPOSED to be a poll, but since I clicked the wrong thing apparently and couldn't edit it to be one (nor delete it...) then I guess it's good ol' type-o-rama...

I personally prefer dogs. I find their companionship, loyalty and obedience really admirable and appealing. I don't really like cats...sometimes they're nice and all, but mostly they're too arrogant for my liking and just plain tick me off.

Nefir 10-18-2003 08:25 AM

Definitely dogs for me. They are loyal, obedient, and treat you like they really do enjoy your company. Cats, on the other hand, seem to only tolerate the company of humans as long as it benefits them. No loyalty, no friendship. I don't see the appeal.

Dog: "Woohoo! My favorite master is home! I must go and welcome him because I'm so happy that he's back!"

Cat: "Oh, him. Alright, human, I'll let you pet me, but only because you are such a loyal and obedient slave. Alright, thats enough. It is time for my meal now. Chop chop."

The_wall 10-18-2003 08:40 AM

I'm a dog man, I find dogs way more addorable than cats

cliche 10-18-2003 08:41 AM

Got to be dogs - there are enough people on this planet who'll treat you like crap that you really don't need a cat!

bundy 10-18-2003 08:53 AM

iīm allergic to cats.

so its got to be dogs for me.
but i would have chosen them first anyway.
i guess they just make better companions than cats.
plus, i dislike the whole killing small native animals on a nightly basis thing that cats do.
i donīt mean to say that dogs arenīt a threat to native wildlife, but cats are just better killers.

anti fishstick 10-18-2003 10:08 AM

i like dogs

bernadette 10-18-2003 10:13 AM

while i love cats very much, dogs have first place in my heart.

they interact more & they're always happy to go places with you.

The_Dude 10-18-2003 10:25 AM

cats are always #1.

they're smaller and cuter than dogs. they can also sleep in bed with u and do lots of stuff that dogs cant.

TM875 10-18-2003 10:26 AM

I'm definately a cat man.

Yes, cats are arrogant and self-involved. Much like myself. Maybe that's why I feel a special kinship with them. Dogs, however, stike me as incredibly annoying and just plain disgusting. I don't mind having a cat lick my hand or arm, but a dog licking my face...eww.

Peryn 10-18-2003 10:32 AM

Dog man here all the way. Dogs a loyal loving freinds. They are geneuinely happy to see you. They are sad when your not feeling well or hafta leave. They really are the best freind you'll ever have. And cats? well, cats just use you for food. They dont love you, and dont care about you, they pay just enough attention so that youll feed em.

As for cats: I like cats, got lots of good recipes! :D

oberon 10-18-2003 10:35 AM

Dogs Rule. Everyone else said it all already.

Prince 10-18-2003 10:36 AM

LOL!

I agree 100 %.

ARTelevision 10-18-2003 10:46 AM

we've always had and always will have both.
they fulfill vastly different relationship spaces with humans.
- I never know why they are compared, so.

Dogs for me too, for those reasons

Mr. Spacemonkey 10-18-2003 11:08 AM

Dogs for me.

I'm kinda scared of cats. This may be because i happen to know for a fact that my friends cat is secretly seeking to take over the universe and get rid of all human kind . . . . . . so i may be a little bias.:D

SiN 10-18-2003 11:11 AM

cats.

but i think ART has a good point (as he oft does..)

it's like apples and oranges...

tinfoil 10-18-2003 11:19 AM

Cats for now. They require less yard space, something I am very sadly lacking in. Just enough room for a BBQ and a lawn set.

They are less maintenance as well, which is good as it seems I am the only one around here who maintains them.

Destrox 10-18-2003 11:45 AM

Cats all the way!

And I'm even alergic to them, but I will still take a cat anyday!

nukeu666 10-18-2003 12:36 PM

dogs anyday

dogs r loyal to the ppl they live with
cats r loyal to the place they live in

ninety09 10-18-2003 12:50 PM

I like them both, but prefer having a cat. Requires much less attention than a dog..

IC3 10-18-2003 01:16 PM

I am an animal lover.

I like cats better than dogs though, They are more independant than dogs and alot smarter too. You can't train a cat like you can a dog (Atleast I have never seen a trained cat)...Other than that though..Cats are more intelligent than dogs.

Cats can survive way longer than a dog outside.

Cats are cleaner than dogs

Cats can be just as affectionate as dogs...If not more, But only when they want to be.

I had a cat that would play fetch with the tinfoil out of packs of smokes..As soon as he heard the noise of you opening a pack of smokes, He was right at your feet waiting for you to throw the little tinfoil ball. He would bring it back too.

When I get out on my own i plan on getting a newborn rottwieler and a cat...Maybe 2 cats.

Look at wild dogs..Then look at wild cats, Which one do you think would out survive eachother?

RelaX 10-18-2003 02:38 PM

Cats are good as long as they stay out of my way. I don't mind em, but I could never see what anybody sees in them. Although I guess it's just personal preference. Nice to see so many doglovers on TFP though. :)

My dog is a dog, is a dog 4 life!

dogzilla 10-18-2003 03:28 PM

I'm a cat guy. Right now I have a big orange and white cat that I think is a coon cat.

He is very affectionate and follows me and my wife around the house all the time.

One of his clever tricks is to hide around the corner and pounce on me or my wife when we walk by, pretending he's a fierce hunter but never using his claws.

Sometimes when we walk by him, he will grap us with his paws to get our attention so he can get petted.

Really nice cat.

lurkette 10-18-2003 03:50 PM

I love them both and would have as many as our house could hold if Ratbastid didn't interfere :)

We've got 2 cats with very distinct but loving personalities, and a deeply sweet chow mix. No way I could choose between them.

eribrav 10-18-2003 03:53 PM

Woof woof!

I have a dog (Golden retriever) and she is the ultimate companion.
Just wants to be with me no matter what's on the agenda. We swim, hunt, hike in the woods........nothing human or animal is so loving.
Why is she better than a cat? Here's why: If I die I know she would be very sad and she herself might not survive. If you have a cat and you die and someone doesn't find you, your cat will eat you and not have a second thought.

Stare At The Sun 10-18-2003 04:03 PM

Cats are cute, Dogs are cool. If i had to have one, i'd have a cat, as they are smaller, and dont smell as bad. But thats just me. I'm a city guy, so the cat would be inside always, and i wouldnt want to keep a dog inside, where it couldnt run and play and the like. :)

Just my .02

Baldrick 10-18-2003 04:45 PM

I'm a cat guy, for exactly the same reasons why many of you don't like them. Cat's do what they want, when they want, if they want. They have a mind of their own. I respect their independence.

A dogs' loud and constant quest for approval pisses me off...

mvassek 10-18-2003 04:45 PM

Why not both!
I have 3 German Shepherds they are all excellent companions for outside and rough and tumble fun. I also have a cat which is nice to have around in the house something that fits in the house quiet, relaxed, peaceful. I couldn't pick one over the other.

numberfive 10-18-2003 04:58 PM

Dog man. 'Cause they care.

Ratman 10-18-2003 05:04 PM

Like I always say:

Dogs have owners.

Cats have staff.

I am "managed" by two cats.

sexymama 10-18-2003 05:34 PM

Cats -- they are independent and take less time, which is very limited in my household.

MSD 10-18-2003 06:36 PM

My cat is just as friendly and loving as a dog. He'll curl up on my lap wherever and whenever I'm sitting. When I get home, he'll jump up onto the roof of my car so that I'll scratch his head and he can rub against me.

I have had several less than pleasant experiences with dogs in the past, and I'd rather not take a chance again, even with a dog that I think is friendly.

K-Wise 10-18-2003 06:48 PM

I think choosing cats cause they're less maitenance and require less space/easier to take care of is really lazy. Almost like Cats are for pet owners who don't really want the responsibility of a pet. I've owned lots a cats and lots a dogs....I don't see the big difference in responsibility.....what sometimes you have to WALK the dogs or let em out the back door? OMG HOW HORRIBLE IS THAT?!!! Thats the only difference that I can think of. My 2 dogs are doing exactly what a cat would be doing right now. One is sitting on the couch licking her paws and the other is laying on the floor chewing on his toys. You just need to pick the right kinda dogs. If ya got a small place get a small dog.....they're less maitenance than a big dog. Plus a cat would probably cost more.

Now bottom line why I would pick a dog over a cat and the main reason why they actually just might be better....Paul Rodriguez said it best.....cats are useless. Asside from the mouse running around the the house they really don't do a damn thing. If your house was on fire.....or someone broke into your house more often than not the cat would run away. The dog would bark as loud as it could and wake you up to warn you of the present danger.....the dog would attack the intruder. Whens the last time you heard of a "guard-cat" ??? Dog person all the way cats are cute and I love them just as much as any animal but no.

Asta!!

fallen_angel 10-18-2003 08:12 PM

im a femal and i personally prefer dogs, but I also have 3 cats at home and only one dog. also i prefer to have a male animal because to me they seem more loving and less tempermental. but that could just be me. . .

mew 10-18-2003 08:35 PM

I love both..
dogs: always want attention, cuddly, playful, always listens, loyal
cats:cuddly(when they want to be),independant(less hassle),quiet, and will leave you alone when you want to rest.

onodrim 10-18-2003 08:49 PM

I really just love animals in general and I think dogs and cats are equally lovable and wonderful pets. :) However there's just something about cats that makes me love them even more than most pets. Having a soft little cat cuddled up in your lap purring away is better than a dog anyday. Although I gotta say, I'm currently in love with my sister's new puppy. :p

fuzzix 10-18-2003 09:32 PM

I much prefer cats, they're clean, they look awesome, and they have a lot of personality (anyone who says they don't is ignorant), they also don't leave messes on the lawn, they don't slobber all over you, and they don't cry all nigth if you leave them alone. Yep, cats are cool. I like dogs too, but I'd never have one as a pet.

Bingo.

Plus I'm allergic to cats anyways.

Angel 10-19-2003 04:22 PM

I am a dog lover. I have had dogs all of my life. All of them female except my first one. This is the first time in my life that I haven't had any pets. There is a side of me that misses the companionship of a dog and then there is the side of me that doesn't miss cleaning up after them and worrying about getting a sitter if I am going someplace where they can't.
Right now I am free to do whatever I want whenever I want so I am in no rush to have a pet.
But when I do.....Dog all the way.
Cats are cute in their own right, I just prefer dogs.

maynard0012 10-19-2003 06:23 PM

I've had cats all my life, but never a dog until the last few months. I got a female puppy from the pound; she's at least mostly a German Shepherd/labrador mix. She's not as big yet as I wanted, but I hope she'll grow more.

I'm not really feeling the best friend thing. She follows me from room to room, and whines when she's alone, etc. but she acts like a cat a lot of the time. She's selfish and rough. She bites hard and often. She chases the cats. I hope it'll get better as she gets older.

tangledweb 10-19-2003 06:46 PM

It probably will. After living with the cats for a while she will outgrow her facination with them (except for the occaisional wanting to play) and she won't chase em as often. I think it's mainly about curiousity....theres probably a little fear there too of course. My dogs always wanna chase the cats in our neighborhood....and not all of the cats are scared of them so when they get real close to em and the cat doesn't run away....they don't attack it or anything they just smell it and think "Oh....okay so thats the whole story eh?" and they walk away. Cats are different though....even when they are no longer afraid of her they'll probably still claw her when she gets near them out of annoyance. I'd recomend de-clawing them to be rid your dog of that danger but cats place big importance on their claws and should it ever have to defend itself it wouldn't be able to. My sister has a little silky terrier....she's living with her Mother In Law now and she has a cat that has been de-clawed but not because of the dog......because that cat is evil and it would claw up everything. Ol Sammy's lucky to cause that cat is a bitch and no one can approach her not even the humans. I reached down to pet her and it was like "Yeah thats nice right?" she purred and everything and about 3 strokes down she turns around like a bolt a fuckin lightning and bites the shit outta my hand. Fuckin devil cat

koli70 10-19-2003 08:34 PM

Oh cat person, they are way cleaner than dogs it seems. Its dosent take a lot to take care of them. Love on them when they want it.... and they do the rest

collide 10-20-2003 12:23 AM

If given the option of stinky dog breath or stinky cat breath, I'd have to go with stinky cat breath. Nothing like waking up in the morning with a big furry critter in your face to greet you "good morning! wake up now and feed me!"

Plus, a yowling cat is much more tolerable than a barking dog. Cripes. Never going through that again.

mydragonfido 10-20-2003 01:20 AM

LOVE MY KITTIES!!! But what about our lizard friends!! I personally love a bearded dragon the best!!

jbrooks544 10-20-2003 05:36 AM

dog = shit factory

cat = cool

You have a dog - how long can you leave your apartment/house for? You are married to a canine sphincter - nice...

Probably worse than being married...

supafly 10-20-2003 06:31 AM

I like a cat better. I have two cats myself.

Midlandmadman 10-20-2003 08:15 AM

Ok I'll say it..... I fucking hate dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing the little ones are good for is punting!!!!!!! All the barking and jumping and acting stupid when you get home. And the dogs that get so happy or so nervous they piss on the floor???? What the hell is that???? Can you leave a dog in the house for the weekend??? Hell no, you'd have crap all over the place... and the dumb thing would probably eat your couch. I personally don't want to have to take Fido for a walk in a rain storm just so he can piss on his favorite tree. They eat too much... and they smell way worse then cats too!!! About the only thing i prefer dog over cat for is taste!!! cat is too stringy.

CATS RULE!!!!!!

Dibbler 10-20-2003 12:21 PM

CATS: The perfect pet. Every couple of days, fill the food bowl, get fresh water. Going on a trip? No problem! Change the litter box, dump the bag of food out, raise the toilet seat. Leave for a week.

DOGS: Seems like almost monthly visits to the vet for allergies, heart worm pills, ear infections, flea stuff, etc. Must be feed a couple of time a day. Chews up anything left out. The thing drinks about 5 gallons of water a day of which half end up on the floor. Glad to see me when I get home but knocks everything over trying to get to me. Needs frequent walks in all kinds of weather. Poops and pees about every 10 minutes. Going on a trip? No problem! Call around to the kennels to see if they have room. Pay $10 to $15 a day not including food. Get everything ready and haul the stupid mutt over to the kennel. When I get home, get to the kennel before they charge me for another day. etc, etc, etc...

WINNER: CATS

K-Wise 10-20-2003 01:23 PM

Please why even get a pet if you don't want the responsibility then? Lord forbid you ever have children. Cats need to see vets too ya know they also can get diagnosed with Feline Aids. Everytime we take our dogs in to get boarded we see more cats at the damn place gettin fixed up than dogs. You think cats don't mess up your house? Leave em at your house for a week and come back to your couch shredded. You have to buy them way more excessories so they don't destroy your freakin house. 11 different toys cause they get bored with all of em, a scratching board so they don't claw up on all your furniture. A dog you just give em one bone and they'll chew it till it's completely gone and a litter box smells worse than any dog I've ever had plus no dog of mine has ever brought a dead animal into my house (not that dogs don't I'm sure they do). Seems like everyone here likes cats not because they're better companions or more loving pets but because they require no responsibility. Shitty reason if you ask me. Just tie the dog outside give him a big bowl a water and a big bowl a dog food. They aren't as big a responsibility as you guys are making them out to be.

Asta!!

sailor 10-20-2003 02:05 PM

Dogs all the way. I have always liked a pet that you can do things with, and nothing is like a dog.

I like my hunting breeds--labs especially, but some retrievers and lots of spaniels are good dogs. Hunting breeds tend to be good dogs to train, and contrary to what many people think, it does not mean it is a viscious dog. Dogs must be trained though, untrained dogs annoy me. This is another reason why I like dogs though--you cant really train anything like you can a dog.

I cant wait to move out of my dorm so that I can get myself a new Lab.

sailor 10-20-2003 02:09 PM

I just thought of something else, too. Another reason why I like dogs is that you need to care for them. Having a pet is a big responsibility, and buying a pet to just sit around and do nothing with is a little less than moral in my eyes. Part of the joy of having a pet is being able to play with it, and care for it, and by buying an animal that needs no care, you are skipping out on the responsibility that comes with a pet, and I think this tends to be the wrong reason to buy a pet. To be blunt, if you don't have the time or desire to truly care for the animal, don't get one.

Phaenx 10-20-2003 02:19 PM

I prefer dogs to cats, though I still like cats very much. With dogs what can you say? They're loyal enough to fight to the death for you, affectionate and fun to wrestle with.

Cats are nice, but they won't do shit if you're violently murdered while you sleep.

I have two cats and they don't cause any of the trouble you talk about. When we go on vacation the cats are left in with clean water and lots of food. A friend comes by every couple of days and checks in on them. They've been fixed so all they do is sleep and eat and don't cause any destruction. The only reason we have a dog is because my daughter would "die" if she couldn't have a dog and a hamster and a rabbit and a cat and on and on. She's hinting at a horse now! She takes care of the dog but jesus, that dog cost more to take care of than her! He's a Golden Retriever which are suseptable to allergies so I have to take the stupid thing to the vet every six weeks for an allergy shot and those heart worm pills are like $5 each. Also the vet acts like the mutts my baby which drives me nuts because he never acts like that when I take one of the cats in.

I don't know. I just think that if you don't have kids but want to know what it's like...get a dog.

Another thing, my cats are very enjoyable. They're very friendly and love attention. They actually race the dog to the door when I come home.

K-Wise 10-20-2003 10:23 PM

No two animals are the same. I've known people who can do the same thing with dogs and they don't do any damage either. They just walk out the doggy door and walk back in. I think it depends on the animal you have. I'm sure certain cat breeds are more prone to diseases than other cat breeds as is the same with dogs. I'm sure if the cat could he'd fight to the death for your life too. Never said they weren't loving or anything least I don't think I did. I just pointed out some of the things people say about dogs that aren't true with all dogs and are true with some cats. Picking them soley because of those reasons is being a little close minded wouldn't ya think? I mean all the reasons why people don't like Dogs is because you have to actually CARE for a dog. I just think thats a rather lazy and irresponsible reason. I mean thinking about it even a fish prolly holds more responsibility than a cat. How old is your Retriever? They're great family dogs....really smart. We could use a cat for these little fuckin mice that keep runnin round the house. Used to have a bunch. Only one I really became attatched to was this adorable kitten I used to have named Amber. She was furry and um redish color to the hair with white streaks in it.....I don't know cat breeds :-\ We all loved that one though she was very loving. She would climb on us and sleep on us. I think some bitch stole her though.

Alot of us get pets for our children....... Since taking care of our kids is way more important then taking care of a pet. (easy PETA people) Some people need low maintinence pets. Cats are by far easier then dogs.

OH yeah and as I said before DOGS FUCKING SUCK!!!!!

mml 10-21-2003 09:48 AM

I grew up with both dogs and cats and really they both are great. As many have said, they each offer something different and enjoyable. That being said, I have two dogs and no cats. I would get a cat, but my dogs do not like them. Next time around, I will get a puppy and a kitten at the same time and raise them together. But, if I had to make a choice it would be a dog. WOOF!

raeanna74 10-21-2003 10:22 AM

A cat. Doesn't bug you for attention and loves to snuggle when you're sick. I get so many others during the day that bug me for attention - one more if not appreciated. A dog would HAVE to be walked and taken out to go and played with more. A cat is more able to care for itself. I already have enough people to care for in my life I don't need more. A cat is the pet for me. Now if I could choose any pet besides cat or dog I would choose a bird. I love their song and my parakeet Cappy used to follow me everywhere in the house and sit on my shoulder and come when I called. He even sang while I played the piano. A bird is the best pet ever.

He's about a year and a half old. A friend who's a dog breeder recommended that we get a Golden because they are supposed to be low maintenance rugs for the most part. We got him when he was about 6 months old and assumed that when he hit a year he would start to mellow out a little. Found out later that Goldens stay "puppy like" for 2 to 3 years and then mellow. Another year and a half and he should be fine. We needed a bigger dog cuz the two cats (brothers) hate dogs and will actually work as a team to get him. Dog is scared to death of the cats! The cats will hide at doorways and wait for the dog to walk through and then jump on him from both sides or one will stand just past the doorway and coax the dog through and the other will be waiting and jump on him. It's funny and sad at the same time. I wish they would just get along.

The Geek 10-22-2003 10:44 AM

Grondar 10-22-2003 12:53 PM

I have mixed feelings..

Dogs are more loyal and appreciative of their owners.

Cats are generally solitary beings that aren't going to be as loyal as a dog from my experiences.

I still consider myself a cat person though. I love animals, so I don't really see the need to put one above the other, but in terms of which pet I would rather own at this stage in my life, I would have to say a cat.

They are less maintenance and if I get one that is friendly, they can provide companionship. I love dogs also, but right now for me to get a dog, I fear it wouldn't get enough attention and taken care of enough to result in it having an enjoyable life with me.

When I am older, and settled down, I definitely would like to get a small dog, but right now a cat is just a better pet for me to have.

They both are great though. I like animals a lot, and think they make for great companions.

One funny note regarding cats.. We have two now, both used to be strays before we took them in. I picture them living a rough life in the alley, eating whatever they could scrounge up.. Now, years after being taken in by my family, they only eat a certain brand of cat food, and even then, only will eat certain flavors of that particular brand. It's quite humorous to note how spoiled they have become so fast.

DOGS! ... cats cant catch frisbees :p

wwcd101 10-23-2003 06:24 AM

More than just cat vs. dog, the size of the dog matters too.

I like big lovable dogs. Little yappy ones don't have much appeal to me. Cats are completely out of the question. This of course is made more interesting by the fact that I grew up in a house with 2 cats and a small yappy dog (schnauzer).

We had Wilson, a big brown mutt (120lbs), from '84-97. Now we have Happy, a Golden Retriever that doesn't retrieve much.

Anyway, in this poll, count me in the guy-big dog category.

Thanks for listening.

oh here is another reason dogs suck..... if they flipout and attack the kids, little johnny ends up in the hospital getting stitches and tetnus shots........ when fluffy flips out you get scratched. Anyone got a band-aid????

2 years ago and I would have said Dogs all the way, and I still do, however cats I like now more than I did, they seem playful and get on with there own thing, as long as you get a cat that is the right "sort" and not a moody one. :)

Ever heard a cat scratch fever? Make sure yer kid doesn't get that before ya just go "putting a band-aid" on there. With cats you dunno what the fuck is under their claws they coulda killed a mouse with those claws earlier.

Wel, I really used to like cats a lot. I lived with cats for 13 years until I went away to college last year. Some how I developed an allergy to them, so now when I go home, especially if it's been a long time since I've been around cats, I get very sick. Just last weekend I had to go home for fall break, and I am still sick right now!

Dogs... eh, dogs are alright. Never really cared too much for em though.. and I sure don't have any plans on owning one.

arcane 10-23-2003 11:33 PM

only thing cooler than one little playful kitty is TWO little playful kitties

yay

ziadel 10-23-2003 11:35 PM

I really cant pick just one...

I appreciate cats for what they are, and I appreciate dogs for what they are...

Yeah I KNOW. Catrina and I had a standoff just 2 weeks ago. That day I was planning to make the appt to get her fixed. I'm pretty sure she already started menses, she's 5 mo. Well decided after the fight that she was getting her front claws out. I'm sure the fuss was party because of puberty but I got pissed. So in a week and a half she's getting fixed and her front claws nipped.

I figure it's better that way with all the children I have circulating through my home. Just safer.

i just realized that everyone here is talking about inside pets. me personally i was referring to outside pets. At my house only the dogs get fed because only they work to kep the house a safer place. the cats get paid in a different way. they get any creature which burrows crawls flies anywhere on our land and believe they get it all, or else they just eat dog food. we feed the pregnant cats just because of the fact that they are pregnant

I have a cat. It's as affectionate a creature as I have ever known, but the important part is that when I am out at work or something, it's happy to do its own thing.

It's hard on a dog, I think, being left behind, they need a lot of companionship to be happy.

It's a two way thing with any animal... except for fish I guess :)

Also, a dog needs a good sized garder to run in, to be fair on it. Cats are a tad more adaptable.

gabshu 10-26-2003 10:53 AM

Dog girl, altough I think pigs make great pets. For real, when I move into a big house I'm getting a pig.

battlemouth 10-26-2003 01:18 PM

They'll glide into yer pocket! :D Anyone ever owned a pig? I hear they're great....of course thats from people who are trying to sell them so....I'unno.

Pigs are ill tempered and loud. Everytime I eat bacon a grin spreads across my face, because I know a pig died for me to enjoy my breakfast.

maluv 10-28-2003 01:26 AM

dogs are loud and annoying, and i've had cats all my life

i have a dog now and i really.. dont like him :\

he just gets in the way and is incredibly loyal for absolutely no reason at all.. whereas a cat doesn't just heed to your every wish whenever you want.. they actually seem to have personality, something i don't see in a dog at all

K-Wise 10-28-2003 01:26 AM

Cute lookin before they're killed & cooked.....and delicious looking afterwards.

ironman 10-28-2003 11:09 AM

Dogs, i've never heard of a cat saving it's master's life.

tj2001cobra 10-28-2003 11:29 AM

Dogs STINK, they drool, they are basically disgusting animals. They dont clean themselves and they constantly want to lick you. YUCK!

Dogs annoy the crap out of me. They always want attention and are never happy unless you focus all of your waking moments on them. The bark at nothing, they dig and chew everything. What is the point?

Dogs never seem to get the hint. You can knock the crap out of a dog and it will keep coming back for more thinking that you want to pet it. Do people really need something that needy?

I dont need an animal to make me feel wanted. That is one of the biggest arguements FOR dogs.

Cats? They are clean, dont smell, you can have one in a house without other people knowing it. They show plenty of attention but dont require as much as they give.

sillygirl 10-28-2003 11:35 AM

I'd rather have a dog. I grew up with 'em, and they're more loyal than any person I've ever known. They care about you no matter what you do. I brought my Great Dane home when he was about 8 weeks old. It didn't matter what I did to punish him when he'd do something bad, he'd just look up at me with those big eyes and beg for forgiveness. Awwwwwww, I miss my baby!!!! :(

Aesik 10-29-2003 09:20 PM

Dogs definitely. My wife was a cat person until I recently brought her over from the dark side.

splck 10-29-2003 09:36 PM

Both. I don't think you can compare the two.
I don't care for stupid dogs...other than that I love em'all.

Actually both dogs and cats clean themselves in certain "places" and then they do try and lick you...thats the YUCK! part. Supposedly their mouths are cleaner but they still smell like balls :|

Jimbob666 10-30-2003 01:21 AM

Dogs are loyal and loving. Cats only care where their next meal is coming from. They're about as loyal as humans, and that's not a good thing.

EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DIARY

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.

DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair... must try this on their bed.

DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was...... Hmmm. Not working according to plan.

DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.

DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer". More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time....

Apex Shok 10-30-2003 12:49 PM

I have both. I like both.

I don't trust the cat.

Just remeber this.....

If the cat were bigger he would eat you.
