What do you like best about your job?
I did a search and didn't see anything on this subject. I may have missed it. I apologize if that's the case.
What is it that you like about your job? What is good about it? Maybe you have a boring factory job but at least you've got good buddies there that you can rag on the job with. Or maybe it's your dream job. Just wondering what makes us all get up in the morning and go to the same old job every day - besides the fact that you need the money. Of course ya gotta be able to rag on the job too. What's the worst thing about it too? What would you change if you could? Here's my offer. I work at home running a home day care. Sometimes the kids get so nuts that I wish I didn't. Like right now, the two yr old is having a tantrum and I put her in her crib till she calmed down or went to sleep. She's got a great set of lungs and even all the way from the bedroom to the livingroom I can hear her loudly. The things I like best about it is #1. I love kids. Always have enjoyed working with them and got an Elementary Education degree because of it. #2. I get to be home with my 3 yr old daughter and watch her change every day. #3. I've become a surrogate mom to the kids. Three of them call me Moma even. There ya go. What do you all say? |
Im a night portor. I hate most of my job but there are a few things I like.
1) Good money 2) Dont have to work very hard 3) It gives me time to study 4) No supervision so I can be a totally dodgy bastard |
getting that check after 2 weeks... and not being 1/16 of the workload that I used to have.
and of course... working for the devil. |
I work at Best Buy...my favorite thing is definitely the discount!!!!!!(wholesale price + 5%)
|
Gee...let's see now...how about doing what I am doing at precisely this moment (at work, btw). Communicating with you fine people.

Just out of curiosity, what's the mark up? How much do you normally save on a big ticket item? Maybe I'll get a job there! :) |
I'm a telecommuting consultant in the health insurance IT industry. Best thing I like about my job?!
1: Working from home 24/7 2: Naming my own hours 3: My paycheck 4: Did I mention working from home? Especially nice in the winter when I get to watch cars sliding down the road while I'm in my robe and bunny slippers, sipping a cup of coffee. ;) |
7 miles - Driveway to parking lot:D
Aside from an assinine boss who couldn't find his ass with two hands and a flashlight, there are some really good people in this dept to work with. |
1) naked ladies
2) creative freedom 3) my input actually matters 4) lots of responsibility 5) naked ladies Yes, being a webmaster for a nude model photographer is nearly my dream job |
Fantastic hours---get up when I want.
Good pay----deposited in the bank every month. Great people ---sex any time. dreat drinks---scotch and water any time--- BTW---I'm retired...:D |
1) I get to travel the world
2) I get a lot of freedom to make decisions. 3) I get paid extremely well. 4) Did I mention I get to travel? 5) I get to be creative on a regular basis. |
I'd have to say the people I work with.
We all get along great. The boss knows your name and says hello to you as you pass in the hall. As a whole, we flirt a lot and no one gets their panties in a bunch about it. I could use more money, but then, who couldn't? |

My job is cleaning house, doing dishes, and doing Jinya.
Uh, the parts I don't like are cleaning house and doing dishes, for those of you that might be confused. ;) Best part of the job, aside from doing Jinya, is that we go to Rocky Horror every other Saturday night. It's fun. :D |

You can't usually get a full time position unless you make management. Otherwise you have to work less than 30 hours because they only offer a certain number of benefit packages. Their hours suck though if you work Merch Team. They have to work till Midnight most Saturday nights to set up everything according to the prices in the flyer that comes out in the Sunday papers. Hubby worked at two different stores and this was the same in both places. If you want a better job as far as hours pick Loss Prevention. You'll still have to work at least half your weekends but not as late Sat nights. |
The best part of it is the lighting.
|
The only things I like about my job is the cash, insurance, and when I go home at the end of the day. Other than that stuff I hate every aspect of my job.
|
There isn't much to like about my job besides the fact that I get free medical, dental, food, schooling, and on the job training. Other than that.... I can't wait till my enlistment is up.
|
I work for a TV show, so:
1 - Different every day. Each show has it's own needs. 2 - Fastpaced. TV producers want things NOW, so you have to be on alert at all times. 3 - Interesting people. Talk shows see celebrities on a daily basis. I get paid to see people sing/play music that other people dish out big bucks for. 4 - Good pay. And since I'm hourly, I benefit from time and a half, double time, and short turn around rules. A heavy taping week is big bank. 5 - The hours. A normal taping day is 7-3, which means I can come home and see my kid and wife before dinner time. |
I love my job because I'm paid very well to do fuck all. Loads of free time with lots of cash in my pocket is nice:)
Being a Canadian, I don't have to worry about health care and all that stuff...suits me fine. |
Best part of my job is the people I work with. They are the reason I stay.
|
I write computer software and design web sites. Biggest plus: I get to work from home, set my own hours and drink beer while working. Biggest minus: I get to work from home, so I rarely meet new people, and I get to set my own hours, which means I have to be really motivated to work all the time. If it weren't for my college classes I'd never get out of the house.
|
I do fraud investigation for an insurance company. I love the fact that my job is basically outsmarting people attempting to rip off my company. Its like being a cop and being promoted straight to detective, without having to spend the first half of my life writing people tickets for jay-walking and speeding.
My job sucks becuase there is no one in my office worth having that sex on the desk-porno experience with:) Im also 15 years junior to anyone I work with |
Working at Best Buy rocks. Been there many times as an employee. Computer stuff you don't save much on. Car audio and home audio you do. Accessories you save a crapload on.
Anyways, my job. M-F, 8-5, no weekends, I work around cars, and good people. Downside...it's not a $50,000/yr job. |
jjwinc, depends on the item...computers have no mark up...but a plasma tv is like 33% off
|
no supervision.
|
~it's really casual - you can wear whatever you want
~i go on lots of breaks with my supervisor on "work-related discussions" (re: smoke breaks) ~i kick ass so i get good bonuses |
I can get stoned at work
|
I'm a teacher and what I like most are the kids! However, their parents can be pains in the ass.
|
Job #1 Freelance Journalist: Other then doing what I love I hate every minute of it.
Job #2 Baker: Other then the hours (5pm-1am) I love every minute of it. I'm re-learning a trade that can be used for the rest of my life... and I love being in a kitchen. I was born to cook. At least I think so. |
Well, I work for a pharmaceutical company.
Downsides: Everyone here thinks they know everything (yet surprisingly they have no concept of what drives business) They dismiss everything that goes even slightly against their long-held beliefs. There is this underlying BS quotient. The company (and most employees) believe they are out to help the patient while in the same meeting they will agree to boost the price of a drug since it's now gone generic. This way they can get as much money as possible from the customers who are either the most loyal to our product or who absolutely require the name brand drug. Sales blames marketing and marketing blames sales and no one is ever held accountable. The pharma industry seems to think they are the most punished and most regulated industry in the world. They think they face challenges that no other industry does. Of course they're wrong as every industry faces regulations, lawsuits, business challenges, etc. But since the vast majority of the people in this industry have only worked in this industry they have no clue about anything else. The Positives: They pay me pretty well. Decent amount of vacation time (3 weeks plus we more or less get the week between Xmas and New Years off) There are some great people here who I enjoy talking to (or at least I did before I got transferred to a new building) |

Oh, I forgot to mention. Since I'm the Lan Admin, I'm the only person in my department. Self supervision is cool!
It's good to be King. |
#1 - My breaks, only do 6 hours and get 1hr breaks in that on full pay!
#2 - My Boss, really doesn't give a damn, get on really well with'em so holidays when i want/need them, sick days without a bother etc etc #3 - My pay at the end of the month! |
#1 best thing about my job: The Nap Chair
#2: the people I work with are so understanding and kind. I share an office with one person, and we get along wonderfully. #3: flexibility. If I want to go home early, nobody busts my ass about it. #4: diversity of things I get to do (web site, meeting planning, budget management, tech support, writing reports and grants) #5: what we're doing makes a difference - research on early brain development in kids 0-3 #6: job security: our grant doesn't run out till December 31, 2004, and even after that we'll have carry-over funds, and time to go find another grant. |
Still a student, so I really don't have a steady job, but...
Job #1: Best Buy. I think I really developed a good "people-person" facade. Necessary for some things in life, so I'm glad I learned it young. Job #2: Mortgage Company. I learned enough about assets/liabilities, interest rates, credit, and the peripherals of financing to sleep during my accounting courses. Job #3: Construction. This was last year, and since then, I've imbibed copious amounts of fermented beverages, but at one point, I was quite built. I also learned enough about simple framing to help my mom build a really nice deck. That was pretty satisfying. Job #4: A/V tech. I work at a building on campus, setting up lighting equpiment, projection devices, computers, teles, that sort of thing. Learning a bit about satellite speakers, mixers, etc. Negatives: In general, I'm a rather lazy individual. I subscribe to the belief that we're only here for a while, so why work during the short time we have? I'd rather be drinking with my buddies and such. |
quitting time.
|
Not having to do much if I don't feel like it... school sucks right now though :-/ OH well. haha
|
Four day work weeks/noon till 10 pm swing shift (no weekends either Tues-Fri only).
Lucrative on-call possibilities which I can perform from anywhere. Can work from anywhere with an internet connection. 4.1 miles crib to cube. Perform specialized skills that few know how to do. The respect of my peers and admiration of my apprentices. $$Cha-Ching$$. |
I work for the Army. I do a lot of stuff that most people never get to do in their lives. I am really in military stuff too, so I always get excited when I have a chance to meet 3 and 4 star generals. In a joint assignment, I got to sit in an F-16 and F-18. I got to drive M1A1s and HMMWVs. I've ridden in blackhawks and apaches. It's really neat. Plus I get to travel a lot.
|
I'm still a college student, so my job most likely sucks compared to most of yours.
But...things that i liek bout it: Working with bright and educated people. I can be 1 hour late to work and not worry about it. I can call in sick whenever I want and still get paid absence and vacation. I can leave work early if I wanted to, especially if i have classes. I can study at work. Good paycheck for a student. I can bullshit around on TFP and play Mummy Maze (i'm addicted) quiet often. $80 transportation allowance every month. |
I'm under almost no pressure to get stuff done. I like it that way.
|
well, its not quite my job, but my life as a student certainly has a lot of good things going for it.
lots of spare time. (most of which spent on TFP). lots of great people in my course. lots of cute girls. lots of parties. lots of booze. hardly any assignments. now, i just have to find a job that lets me continue my decadent lifestyle. |
1. The money
2. The holidays 3. The vacation days 4. The easy work, because I am a co-op student :) |
main job-process tech-going home
side job-pizza jockey-the constant surprises behind the door |
I work in Law enforcement , so i would say i love interacting with people and helping people out!
|
1. I can work in street clothes
2. my boss is very laid back 3. I get time off whenever I need/want it 4. its no big deal if I'm late for work 5. my job involves watching TV and playing with audio equipment 6. its no big deal if want/need to leave work early. 7. the pay is decent 8. my boss gives me lots of free stuff Thats all I can think of now. |
The staff and the public are always a real good laugh as it is a paintball site so people are having fun. The moneys good and its not even like being in work.
P.S. and internet access yippee :) |
Love my job.
I am a Gemologist/Jeweler. #1 there is always somthing to keep me busy. #2 Its never the same. #3 I work for some great people. #4 I have weekends off :> #5 SOme gorgous women come in to the store. #6 i get to work with some amazing Gemstones. ie. Diamonds and colored stones #7 I get to use my creativity in designs. THings i dont like. #1The gorgous women coming into the store are engaged :< #2I sit on my ass all day :< |
the fact that i dont have on right now, hehe
|
that fact that i dont have one yet!!!
|
I work at radio shack its like a little kid working in a candy store.
I get 30% discount on anything that says radio shack and 10% on anything else. 30% off batteries is nice :P and then guitar cable and other random stuff. And working on commision is really rather nice. |
I'm the tech lead of the server production team at a mid-sized wholesale white-box PC OEM. This job feeds my Napolean complex all too well. I have practically attained deity status among our salesdroids and management. I get to play with most of the latest technology as soon as we get our hands on it. The employee discount is certainly nice too...
At times the stress gets to me but the people I work with are mostly great and there's almost always something to laugh about. I'm not getting rich right now but I'm comfortable. A short 8 minute commute is nice too. :) |
thats a tough question...
i think that for the most part i have the ability to do what ever i want |
I like the whole not having a job. Playing cards for a living has its perks.
|
With my auto repair shop only 10 feet from my house, my job is great and any time I want to take time off...I give myself permission to be off.
|
I work in a bar.
Awesome co-workers Social atmosphere Some cool customers I enjoy my level of responsibilty - high up enough that I don't get bossed around, low enough that there's not too much stress. |
1. Little supervision- as long as the work is actually getting done, no one ever bothers you.
2. Overtime whenever you want it. 3. First dibs at cracking open abandoned vaults (the company I work for buys old buildings) 4. Lots of pretty women walking around in the area. 5. Unless it's your shift to be on call for emergencies, once work ends you go home for the day and work doesn't follow you. 6. Every day is different- one day you're exploring an abandoned amusement park, the next day you're 9 stories up cleaning a roof, and the next day after that you're riding a golf cart grabbing trash off the ground as you speed by. (it's never dull.) |
Damn... I envy so many of you guys... Seriously - I want to be webmaster of nude models website, and I want to drive in F-16. I want to travel a lot as well or just from home ... Oh.. My life sucks...
Ok - about me. Im working within Telecommunications company in Latvia. Basically I'm responsible person about repairs of phones, so the biggest Plus would be - I can break so many things !!!! Of course- i have to repair them later, but I can break them which is big plus. And many managers - actually all of them , must depend on me and be nice to me if they want everything to be fixed in time :) Ps. What happened in 2003, that most of forum posts stopped at ? |
I like seeing some of the things people choose to do for a living, and the names they choose for their businesses. Today's gem: "In and Out Car Wash & Lube."
|
- Getting invaluable professional experience here.
- Working on large projects to rebuild the country. - The constant e-mails and offline chatmessages of friends whenever something happens here. |
Spend half the day driving and listening to the radio.
Being able to take my time. Never in a rush to get to the next task. No supervision. Work out of my house. Only have to go to the office for training sessions. |
The people I work with. This has been consistent throughout the labor.
|
I have a lot of perks to my job, as listed below:
- I get to be online 12 hrs a day. - I get to travel on the companies bill - I get a company vehicle - I get to drink on the company dollar - I make pretty good money. ( not great but ok ) - and last but not least.. I have the chance to move up in the company to better myself for my future. |
Hugs, smooches, cuddles, singing silly songs, playing games, and watching kids grow.
Plus, kids say the darndest things. |
Knowing that the minute something better comes along I can tell my boss to shove this low-paying job right up his ass.
|
In the current economic climate I'm grateful to have a job.
I cant say I enjoy it much. |
I work at a distribution center for retail sunglasses sold throughout the United States and beyond.
The advantages: - I work 40+ hours a week, making well over Florida's minimum wage. - My benefits are decent; three weeks of paid vacation, along with an average medical, dental and vision package. - It's a fairly easy job; I'm just on my feet all day. - My boss and I get along great (I'll buy her lunch some days, and she'll return the favor, we joke around, etc.). - When things are slow, we goof off. - Being this is the south, the 'southern hospitality' thing really works here... I've never met so many individuals willing to go out of their way to help you. - I've had several promotions and raises since I've started there two years ago. - I work five minutes away from home. - Mah momma works there, who sometimes bails me out with my ignorant co-workers! :p The disadvantages: - Some of my co-workers are snippity little pricks, who think they're the boss. - Occasionally, things get hectic and due to the economy, we're understaffed, so we all have to take twice the workload. - Standing for 8 hours on a cement floor really hurts the back. - Having to be to work by 7AM is hard work for this night owl (that's nothing major, though)! - I get paid bi-weekly, which is a bummer. |
I work in a dishroom, in the spirit of optimism though:
1. I don't have to deal with customers 2. Except when they use us as spares for everything else management really doesn't ever even come back to where we are 3. The cooks love us since we'll wash anything they need on the spot 4. Since we're a golden corrall style cafeteria we're provided a meal with our break |
the female body
|
The best part about my job is definitely not the pay, but rather the experience.
I consider myself endlessly lucky to have found a PhD program in my precise field of interest where I get to work alongside some brilliant minds and kind people. |
My job has incredible flexibility in terms of when/from where I can work
|
Right now I control a $1.1 million budget. I'm making deals on behalf of the company that will affect the company for many years after I leave. It's a real legacy.
