Military Birth Control Glasses
Does anyone know where I can get a pair of those US Government issued glasses that are referred to as BC Glasses...birth control glasses.
I had a pair once which my friend gave me after he left the Marines, but then my dog got to them....they seemed pretty indestructable except for that, and I've love to get another pair but I can't find them anywhere and I've really been looking. They are very thick brown plasic frames....can't get any more basic or ugly. Any ideas? |
Why in the world would you want another pair of bc's? I got rid of mine after boot camp.
|
What do they do to make them control birth? cus...im confused. and why would the amry issue them?

egads! you actaully WANT a pair of those? Those were by far the ugliest set (the navy issue was black) I have ever worn in my 17 years of increasingly poor vision.

Allow me to illustrate... http://www.phydiux.com/stories/shavi...reamy-head.jpg They are called BCGs for "Basic Corrective Glasses" but due to the ugliness factor the acronym changed meanings. Go ask your local army surplus retailer. I wouldn't mind a pair, myself. -GH |
thoses are sweet I want a pair
|
I wore those suckers in the military. I've even seen a variant that had the part that goes over your ear made of wire covered in plastic. It was odd, but I guess it helped keep them on your head better than the regular ones. And they call em Birth Control Glasses because you sure as hell not getting any while wearing them.
|
I used to have a pair of designer BCs... Armani I think?
I wish I had a pair of real ones. |
Heh, heh...I still have mine from way back when. Anytime I need a good laugh, I just put those bad boys on.
|
Does the US military allow contacts?
Or do they require you wear whatever they issue. |
I actually like those, but I guess I'm a bigger fan of 'nerd chic' than most.
|
as per usual, looks like a different strokes for different folks deal...
try ebay, |
Your dog is wearing glasses?

Lol. You should see the Canadian Forces "Combat Glasses"
LOL !! :p |
BCGs... I had always heard to them jokingly reffered to as TED's--Tactical Eye Devices, making fun of the military's seeming ability to come up with ridiculous acronyms for the most mundane of objects.
Yes, they are butt-ugly. At least everyone with glasses has to wear them, so its not like you are the singled-out geek wearing ugly glasses. |
i still have mine from bootcamp, i never wear them, they are the ugliest and most uncomfortable pair of glasses i ever had.
and yes, you can were contacts in the military, however if you are doing anything in the field or doing live fire exercises it is highly recommended that you were your regular glasses |
They allow people to wear contacts, just not to war or a deployment. The military's fear is that a gas attack can cause the contacts to melt to the eye.
I got a pair of BCG's handy if you'd like a pair. just pm me. |
I think I still have a couple pairs of BCG's in a drawer. Right before I ETS'ed (got out) they had me do an eye exam. About two months being back in Fort Livingroom, for whatever reason, the Army mailed me another pair of BCG's, plus the little insert for the gas mask (which would have been nice to have when I actually had to wear a gas mask).
|
You can get them from places like "The Foxhole" and other military surplus stores, they are hard to find, especially in the right prescription, even tho the ones your gonna find in surplus stores are gonna be going by basic .5 corrections, but good luck.
|
I'd assume you could get new lenses in the frames.
I think the big question is WHY? They're farking ugly. |
What about the black rubber eye glasses that had the rubber band instead of te ear pieces? They were issued to Airborne Troops. They were called "Drive on Glasses" and made me feel like I was a superhero.
|
wow! Cool! I want some superhero glasses!!!
|
I just basicly wanted a pair because they are a great pair of backup glasses to pack in a bag for emergency when traveling. Also, I sorta like wearing them, something nice about how sturdy they feel, and I did have a girlfriend at the time.

:D:D:D
my dad cracked me the fuck up a year or so ago. i saw a pic of him and i was like 'ummmm boy those look apealing!' he said they were birth control glassess. nobody in their right mind would want to do anything with anyone wearing such. :) |

Oh, and I'm guessing those would look extremely goofy on my skinny ass head. |
I still have a pair from when i was in San Diego...
they kind of remind me of a cross between BuddyHolly glasses and cat-eye glasses |
Drew Carey wears BCG's from his time in the Marines.
I tossed mine years ago. The military, or the Navy at least, now makes more fashionable metal or plastic (at least, from a military standpoint) frames, there's actually a pretty decent selection. Watch JAG or NCIS or something to see them. -Mikey |
Going for the RETRO look? I had a pair in Navy Boot camp but got regular frames on my first leave home.
|
As far as glasses vs contacts in the field, imagine trying to scramble a plane or a helicopter and the pilot telling them to wait, because he has to put in his contacts and wait, his hands aren't sanitary. but now the military has been offering lasik surgery to soldiers. They have started with pilots and special forces personnel, and I do not know if they will offer it to anybody.
|
ebay?
|
The Navy offers PRK laser surgery only on a priority basis to active duty personnel. I'm currently on the waiting list but I have level 3 priority on a scale of 1 to 4, 1 being highest. A guy here I know who had level 3 priority waited 8 months, but they did a good job and he has no side effects. I've been on the list for 5 months now.
