How do you dress?

Thread topic appropriated (with permission) from lafemmefatale, in the Ladies' Lounge, with the lead pipe:

How do you dress? Prep, hipster, casual, Abercrombie, neo-goth-industrial-metal-hardcore?

On any given day you're most likely to see me in a black shirt, blue jeans, and a Celtic necklace given to me by my woman.

EDIT: Link to original thread added for a more diverse set of responses. Remember not to post in the LL, men, or the mods will rip the flesh from your bones.

numberfive 09-18-2003 08:10 PM

A button up shirt with a small tee under it for those hot days. Along with a pair for blue/black baggy jeans and my white/black Chuck T's.

EDIT: Like the one n my avatar.

Hard8s 09-18-2003 08:12 PM

Just jeans and a t-shirt most days, when I go golfing or need to semi dressed up then its kahki's and a 3 button collared shirt. Just something comfortable all the time.

Quadraton 09-18-2003 08:15 PM

Semi-casual, usually. Shirt with collar, three buttons, cargo pants, and usually brown leather shoes. Nothing special.

Mr. Spacemonkey 09-18-2003 08:19 PM

Pretty much casual for me. I usually wear a t-shirt and jeans. Sometimes i'll wear a button up shirt and some khakis though.

The_Dude 09-18-2003 08:32 PM

a collared t shirt with a white tshirt inside.

and just a pair of pants.

that's my default look.

none of those are name brand either. i'm just casual.

Stare At The Sun 09-18-2003 08:50 PM

Now, vintage stuff w/ express or american eagle pants, polo shirts, etc. Stupid having to blend in @ college...(i dont want to fuck over my chances of getting in good w/ the prof's at business schoo)

In high school, i was the typical goth guy. Bondage pants, fishnet shirts, some "industrial"(sdl) stuff as well...and when i was kicking it at home, a pair of kikwears and a band T

YourNeverThere 09-18-2003 09:07 PM

naked.

Sleepyjack 09-18-2003 09:12 PM

normally somewhat casual when i go out, although mmost of the time i just have my shorts and basketball singlet/other singlet, with a jacket in winter if it's cold.

striker3303 09-18-2003 09:34 PM

nothing

Okay truth be told, I wear jeans almost every day, and a white shirt. DC's, and a beanie.

Batman976 09-18-2003 09:45 PM

You'll usually find me in jeans and a t-shirt. Once in a while I'll throw some preppy dress into the mix.

I'd like to be better dressed, but I'm afraid I just can't afford it.

anti fishstick 09-18-2003 09:47 PM

i suppose i'm somewhat of a hipster.

laxative 09-18-2003 09:53 PM

i've been wearing the same damn couple pairs of carhart pants and slew of flannels for fifteen years.

K-Wise 09-18-2003 09:54 PM

I don't have a particular style. I dress all kinds a ways. Just whatever looks good. Some days I'll dress sporty, other days hip-hop ish, other days kinda casual or prepish, I've even dressed a little skater before I can pretty much pull off anything. One person told me I dress very retro. I just think I dress good. Also I fancy jackets very much...which is funny cause I live in Texas and you don't get to use jackets very often here.

Asta!!

Ever read The Hipster Handbook?

Great book.

I felt cooler (decker) just reading it.

Macheath 09-18-2003 10:58 PM

The most common among a numer of variations:

Going out - unbranded tailored white shirt, black jeans, nice elastic sided black leather boots and a heavy black leather jacket.

At home trashy wear: Faded grey Planet Hollywood:Dallas/Heineken tshirt with holes in it I got free with a case of beer. Faded green Khaki shorts.

If I have to wear my suit, I will always try to wear nice silk ties.

Steph 09-18-2003 11:05 PM

I love dressing crazily one day, dying my hair platinum blonde the next . . .

Somedays I dress like a camp counsellor, same days I dress like a diva. It depends on my mood.

K-Wise 09-18-2003 11:28 PM

I love dressin up. For my senior year a highschool on wacky day I came dressed in a suit wit a hat kinda like Pachuco style. I looked fly as fuck. The ladies loved it....hell everybody loved it. Shit feels good.

Asta!!

hawkeye 09-18-2003 11:32 PM

Jeans and a t-shirt. Black, when possible. (I sometimes dress up more, but the main color in my closet is Black)

I don't dress like any of that.
I don't have a specific category that I fit in. I wear whatever I'm comfortable in.

fuzzix 09-19-2003 02:44 AM

I don't really have a particular dress style. It varies depending on my mood and the working condition of the washing machine. One thing I do always wear are sneakers, I don't like formal shoes.

TK-421 09-19-2003 02:47 AM

Pants and a shirt, and sometimes a sweater.

Ashton 09-19-2003 04:56 AM

Pressed 100% cotton button down collar shirts........ all solid colors, usually black, white or denim blue...... 550 Levis in black or denim blue........ shiny black leather wingtips, some with lots of dots & some with only a few dots.......... thats my thing, not the IN thing....... not a fad, just what I like..... It pleases me and thats all that matters.

bobw 09-19-2003 05:01 AM

just jeans and a Tshirt. most of the summer shorts and a Tshirt,

Cynthetiq 09-19-2003 05:59 AM

i used to dress in button down shirts, slacks, and dress shoes. All the time, since High School, because I never knew when business was going to come up.

I'm most comfortable in that attire, but alas, working where I work now... that doesn't work, so I wear khakis/jeans and a plain pocket t.

a1t3r3g0 09-19-2003 06:02 AM

I try to dress fairly nice... I've got a lot of Polo & Nautica button-ups and polos and some regular Ts as well.

twotimesadingo 09-19-2003 07:02 AM

when casual, i like to don either a Tool t-shirt, or a t devoted to my beloved Gamecocks.

when i've got to look decent, i'll wear some blue jeans and a polo.

when i've got to look good, it's khakis or grey pants with a nice blue button down.

JBX 09-19-2003 07:23 AM

casual

Charlatan 09-19-2003 07:54 AM

It all depends on the mood...

If I had a choice I would live in a climate that allowed me to wear shorts and a sweater all year round... Unfortunately Toronto doesn't allow this...

My office is very casual but as I am in a position of relative authority I tend to be office casual...

I only wear a suit if I have to... or if I'm trying to seduce my wife.

Same here. I usually wear a T-shirt and jeans because that's what I'm most comfortable in.

viejo gringo 09-19-2003 08:50 AM

normal--summer: shorts, and tank top, sandals. if real hot
forget the tank top and sandals.

normal winter: switch to shorts and T-shirt, tennis shoes.
nasty winter: switch to jeans and T-shirt.

formal church: shoes, socks under shorts, slacks and casual
shirt.
funerals: drag out that blue suit and white shirt, and
same old tie.

rainheart 09-19-2003 02:45 PM

I try to dress well and be my best when I head out, at home I'm a lot more casual.

My usual clothing consists of a short sleeved dress-like shirt worn over a t-shirt, some nice dress-like pants. I wear bright colours, and sometimes add a black element like black pants or black shirt. And I guess the reason for all of that is because I like to look and feel like my best when I'm with other people, and most of the time, at least to me, it pays off.

Mad_Gecko 09-19-2003 03:09 PM

PINK, BOSS, Calvin, and, Church's - Weekday.

Team Colours, jeans (BOSS & Levis), and Nike - weekend.

Basically whatever makes my bod looks best.
EDIT: I think I was too shallow :).

Long sleeve shirts that last durin summer/winter (Thomas PINK).

Good casual/work trousers (BOSS).

Underwear/socks for all seasons (Calvin).

Team Shirts - Diadora (Villa), Nike ('Canes), and the national teams kit make. Also Hacket for dates.

World's King 09-19-2003 03:31 PM

"Rock-a-Billy"

Cuffed dark blue jeans, white t-shirt, cocktail/Hawaiian button up shirt, black steel-toed boots, American flag belt buckel, studded belt, chain wallet, and a shop rag hangin' outta my back pocket.

Every once in while I throw on shorts, a skateboard t-shirt, and skate shoes. But that's for sports and casual purpose.

Baldrick 09-19-2003 03:41 PM

Sadly, I've worn "business casual" so much now, that I feel most comfortable in that. Suits at work - sometimes with tie or not, depending on how my day looks. Dress pants, golf shirt or mock neck, sport coat outside the office. About the only time you won't see me dressed like that is bedtime, and at the gym.

Mephisto2 09-19-2003 04:17 PM

Carefully and slowly, usually nursing a throbing head and a slight sense of dizziness...

Mr Mephisto

SecretMethod70 09-19-2003 04:23 PM

I dress in whatever I feel like at the time.

Some days that's jeans and a T-shirt, some days it's a casual button-down shirt with rolled up sleeves and khakis, some days I like dressing nicely with black pants and a dress shirt (of course, I can only do that when appropriate :-p), some days it's jeans and a light sweater (the kind you can get away with wearing even if it's in the 70s), some days it's jeans and a heavy sweater (in the winter), some days it's jeans and a hooded sweatshirt.....

I think I'll stop now - you get the idea ;)

krwlz 09-19-2003 04:48 PM

Pretty casual...Ive been told I dress like a hick... But hey, I grew upo in the sticks, what do you expect?

Anyway, Usually blue jeans (not overly baggy...just relaxed), t shirt or polo shirt (usually tucked in) and soccer flats.

Xell101 09-19-2003 05:07 PM

I dress well.

Actually loose cargo pants (green, like army jeep green), and a plain long sleeve shirt with aesthetically pleasing seam lines on the top portion (dark maroon)

Jasmar 09-19-2003 06:15 PM

Pretty much exactly like number5

ARTelevision 09-19-2003 06:27 PM

business casual, artist casual, cowboy casual, and naked casual

brandon11983 09-20-2003 06:54 AM

I dress like a dork. T shirt, lucky jeans, thorlo socks, nike shoes.

Semi-Normal 09-20-2003 09:43 AM

Definitely casual. Usually a pair of cargo pants and a t-shirt, and my beloved jacket when it's cold. If I'm going to a party or out to dinner or whatever, a nicer but still pretty casual pair of trousers and a collared shirt, again nothing too flash. Can't see the point on spending heaps of money on trendy expensive stuff or getting dressed up all formal, I'd rather just wear what I like, and what's comfortable.

Gortexfogg 09-20-2003 10:01 AM

Boot cut jeans, t-shirt. I'll wear polos and button up shirts sometimes, but I just love great fitting t-shirts so I wear those more than anything.

MacGnG 09-20-2003 10:29 AM

tshirt and cargo shorts/pants
if its cool or cold i'll wear a knit shirt or a casual button up shirt.
it's not very diverse besides colors so i dont have to make difficult decisions.

i guess i have come to accept dressing in a suit at times but i like the extra pockets in cargo pants :p

Depending on my mood and the occasion, the first, third, and fifth categories. I don't go for the hipster look, and I don't wear anything with big obnoxious writing, or anything made by a company known to use severe sweatshop labor, so Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic and Abercrombie are out on both counts.

I pretty much wear whatever is comfortable, fits the occasion, and suits my mood at the time. My typical outfit, from the bottom up, consists of:
either boots or casual shoes that are good for school, work, and walking,

Khakis, Jeans, or Field Pants (military green, straight pockets, look good with spit-shined boots,) with a braided leather belt,

Either a regular t-shirt or a ribbed t-shirt (not wifebeater, I have a bunch that are really soft and comfortable, look good, and are half rayon/half polyester, so they don't hold odors, sweat evaporates without leaving that nasty smell, so I can wear them multiple times between washings, and anything that touches them can be wiped off with a bit of water.)

These clothes offer me a multitude of options. I can pair khakis with a ribbed shirt, which has the texture of a sweater, and therefore looks nice enough to wear to church, Jeans and a t-shirt for when I don't have to worry about looking nice, and a whole bunch of mix and match options. I usually wear boots, field pants, and a ribbed shirt, which looks good and is comfortable as hell.

In the summer, I wear microfiber skating shorts that come halfway down my shins, and a sleeveless shirt or t-shirt. I can't wear sandals due to flat feet, which really sucks.

In the winter, I go with a regular outfit, and depending on how cold it is, I have a nice Ralph Lauren leather jacket that goes perfectly with anything but formalwear, or an ankle-length trenchcoat that keeps me warm in any temperature avove 0°F (and If I wear all black with it, I look like I escaped from the filming of The Matrix :) )

For formal occasions, I don't resent having to wear a suit, I actually enjoy it. I have a black suit, nice dress shoes, and a choice of ties. For parties, I tend to dress just like I do daily. For concerts, since most that I go to are some variety of extreme metal, all black usually fits in best, with jeans and an old t-shirt to survive the mosh pit and crowd surfing.

EeOh1 09-20-2003 10:12 PM

Polo/Tommy/Ecko button up or polo style shirt with baggy-ish, long generally khaki or navy blue shorts.

laxative 09-21-2003 02:29 AM

polo shirts are pure evil. That's why they're the standard for all fast food jobs, as well as "dress/casual" cubicle jobs. Cover 'em with gas and set 'em on fire. Same goes for loafers.

chavos 09-21-2003 07:18 AM

jeans, tee shirt, and a sweater from gap or old navy....or khakis and a brooks bro's french point shirt. all the same to me, though i somewhat prefer dressing up more than dressing down. too many questions if i do it every day.

battlemouth 09-21-2003 08:58 AM

jeans and a t-shirt possibly from AE, a concert, or the salvation army

meepa 09-21-2003 12:44 PM

I walk around in silk pajamas like I'm some sort of Hugh Heffner. I'll be honest, there have been numerous times where I don't bother changing if I'm going out someplace close. If I'm stopping by the grocery store or the library, which are just down the road, I just go in cotton PJ's with a bathrobe usually. It's pretty tacky, but it's not as bad as young girls walking around half naked I figure. Otherwise I just wear jeans and plain shirts.

Cardinal Syn 09-21-2003 03:43 PM

At work. I dress in button up's or polo shirts. SIlk and Linen for the button ups.

Casual wear. What some people would call the surfer look.

After losing alot of weight and with winter coming around. I been thinking about jeans when i am around town. We will see thou.

Cardinal Syn 09-21-2003 04:29 PM

Thanks K-Wise. Took alot of dedication and strengh to do it. I was never extremly obese but i had a tummy. Ask Hal he knows :>

I used to hover around the 200 mark. Now i am 158-160. The goal was to hit 150. But i think 140 would be best.

Thanks again. Now back to the outfits!

Right now i'm stuck wearing a nice desert camoflogue top and bottom ensemble along with some tan suede boots and a 100% cotton brown tshirt. But back in the real world i usually like to wear sweaters in the winter or a leather jacket and some jeans. summer i like loose semi baggy shorts and a t-shirt or a button up.
