Im sure theres quite a few people browsing tfp @ work. But i had a suggestion. Why dont we keep the avatars nudity free? I do not want people seeing naked girls on my screen at work.

If you have a problem with this, then maybe you shouldn't be browsing sites with questionable content on the company's dime.

If you're here and it's going to be a problem with your company, chances are they probably already know it and the boobie avatars aren't going to be what puts you over the edge.

You can shut off the avatars :)

There've been people who posted along these lines before. And the answer?

Go to "user cp". Click on "Change Options" and select "no" for "Show user's avatar in their posts". That way those of us who enjoy them can keep them, and those of us that view from work can avoid the risk.

in your UserCP you can turn off people's avatars.

beyond that, trying to 'police' the 'PC-ness' of people's av's would be way too much trouble, as has already been posted, prooly in suggestions forum.

This must be fairly widespread otherwise the NSFW tag wouldn't have been born.

Turned Avatars off now. No rush for me to reach 250 posts as I'm an Avatar free zone from here on in.

Well, I for one, am not going to stand up for censorship. If someone really wants a XXX rated avitar, then nothing should stop them. I just hope they take into account what they are displaying, and what message it conveys to everyone else. If they are fine with it, more power to them.

I used to turn them off when I was working at a "wholesome" company... but now... I'm in a private office, my cache is cleared everytime I open a browser window... so I don't worry about it.

I agree with you about the avatars. I don't come here for porn. I have a wife for free porn. :) I have my avatars off but I do think it is disrespectful to have nudity where everyone that wants an avatar has to see it.

But, like everyone has said, this has been discussed before and the pervs (I say this purely in jest) win.

I have no problem with XXX avatars. Although I think it's kind of silly to require people to label threads NSFW when you have XXX avatars, as people pointed out here, they CAN be turned off.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing avatars, but for the simple fact that half the time I browse TFP, I'm at work and the avatars will more then likely get me in trouble.
But, I've lived without the avatars, and heck, at home on my dial-up it's probably easier on the connection.

I have avatars and signature disabed, just so that if I am browsing from school or even my own house and someone akward is over, there won't be trouble. :)

I like things simple anyway, so not having avatars and sigs works out well for me.

you know what I like about this link?? The people that are looking at this at work... "But, only on my break...." Its amazing how so disciplined you all are. I surf at work. When I am supposed to be working! There I said it... now everyone else feel free to confess. Its good for the soul!!! hahahaha

I couldn't agree more. Either disable avatars, or don't browse from work. It's not worth losing your job over.

I have two suggestions for you: switch avatars off in your preferences, or, um, do some work when you're there instead of reading web sites.

I'm on a compus computer right now.. Just turned Av's off, because obviously nudity isn't something people want their students looking at ;) Takes a few seconds and its all good.

Now that everyone has already given the same response to this suggestion I kind feel I don't have to say anything else.

Personaly, I dont mind nudity. However anything that you would expect to find in hardcore pornography kinda makes me think less of the poster.

After all, who would want someone to have that mental image (something deamed "dirty" by society) attached to their name and thoughts?

I browse at work and at home... I like to see them at home but not at work... I dont want to have to turn it on and off or create a new profile...

I just keep the avatars and signatures off. Personally, I can't stand it when someone's 2-word post takes up half my browser window. :)

XXX avatars are silly and should not be allowed. I imagine they are generally used by the male, teenage members and are in my opinion just a sign of immaturity. If you want boobies (and I do), then go to the TB or some dodgy free-to-view porn site.

Many users surf from work. Many users are less than 18. They should not be subjected to XXX avatars.

Sadly, it appears my opinion is in the minority.

The avatars are fine the way they are. The nudity does make it harder to browse in public places but oh well.

Screw that! I keep the Avatars on specifically so all the women in the office can walk by and see some nice titties. I even upload pics from the TB and have it as wallpaper just to temp someone to call H/R! "Come on!!! Pick up the phone and call!!! I dare ya!"

Anyways, why does an avatar with nudity have to be an expression of immaturity? Perhaps I just wanted to spice things up for a little bit and have a little fun. I think perhaps we're reading a little too much into the message behind users' avatars ;)

heh... considering the subject matter of my avitar, the chances of me ever having an explicit avitar are slim to none with none in the lead. i feel they are a member's right to express themselves within the realm of reason. as long as they follow those ideals, avitars can be whatever they choose and i'll be fine with them.

You pick an avatar for a reason - it's everyone else's job to determine what it means to them, good or bad. If you are offended turn off the avatars and then continue your TFP experience.

this is a bulletin board. discussion is the nature of the beast. especially when you put your thread in the "general discussion" board

two lessons have now been learned.

1. put your threads in the appropriate boards to get the desired results.

2. people can and will discuss their opinions about things, even if that opinion has already been voiced once, because people like adding a voice of agreement or dissent; people like to be heard.


and now, back to the discussion of avitars and watermelons and gaping pussies.

I rather enjoy seeing peoples avatars. Sometimes I see an avatar and wonder "What the hell is that!" or "Where the heck did that come from!" Some people are very creative with their avatars. Hmm, I need to look for one myself.

As of now, it's better than two to one for XXX avatars.

Suits me fine, I'm at work and have them turned off.
When the boss leaves, I'll turn them on again.

TFP would be boring without looking at Dax's avatar.

I like to read TFP while working because I've got several database updates running at once and it gets boring while waiting.

I've turned off the signatures (permanently) because I found myself reading and rereading signatures and it was driving me crazy.

I know mine is pretty explicit, but it doesnt fit the options in the poll :(

i realized a little while ago that there is always going to be a naked avatar on TFP, i could either turn them off or just not worry about it.

to me avatars are kinda like a small mirror reflection of a person -- except that unlike an actual mirror image each person gets to chose that tiny reflection of themself that they want all the board to see.

I don't like the XXX avs really, I think they're pointless. My av is pointless too, but the XXX ones are even more so :P
I think it's quite distasteful in all honesty, but I'm not having a go at anyone who has got one, if they want to represent themselves in such a way I'm not going to complain or think any worse of them.
