thats why god made internet cafes. u can get ur caffeine fix and get a decent amount of time (20 mins) to surf the web for free. just make sure to clear ur cookies and internet cache and not go into anything too personal in case of keyloggers/whatnot. (tho that's not a LIKELY case, it is very POSSIBLE). <shrug> im just paranoid

One month, bah! Try going the whole summer without a working computer or decent internet connection. Wimp.

BTW, I'm completely kidding. I completely understand how you feel, and I'm sorry you had to go through a whole month wihtout a connection. Glad that it's working finally!

I'd hate to even think about it. It hard enough to go a couple of days without it.

It's odd. I use the internet constantly when I"m here, but I don't miss it when it's not here. Assuming I have something to do (paint, work on RPG's, meet people) it doesn't phase me that I'm totally unplugged.

Over the summer when I'm at the cottage I do without internet access for about 4 months. By the end of the first month I don't even miss it. But that first day back I can use about a gig of bandwidth in an evening.

It does not matter how many options are available, whether it be an online cafe, library, friend's computer, etc, nothing is better than sitting in your own home playing on the internet. Even a short time without internet can seem like forever.

Once I had a complete hard drive meltdown, and I, being the poor college student I am, had to save up for two months to buy a new one.

I swear I had withdrawals for the first two weeks -- jittery, irritable... I realized, "Damn, I gotta get a life."

I'm addicted to the internet.. have been since I was about 15 and got AOL =P
which is strange, because I don't think my views on life and my general lifestyle is otherwise very "internet-like"...

sometimes... alot of the time... I wish my internet would just go away, for a long time, so I can live my life as me, and not as someone who wastes hours on a fucking box.

bah.

hehehe

It is scary when you start thinking about it

Maybe we'll be able to sue the makers of the internet in about 50 years for making it addictive

Yeah, like "playing" on those "special" sites.

j/k, I think I know what you mean though. Late at night, everyones sleeping...in short, no disturbances.

Just sitting around in your most casual of wear, drinking a nice beverage getting your fix.

When I went on a two week vacation to Hawaii last February, I figured I'd be online at least once a day (I was staying with family who had net access). I logged on once, and that was it. I missed not really knowing what was going on with parts of the news that interested me, but other than that, I was fine. Similarly, when I was without cable TV for a month, I was fine with it. But when it's there, I use it constantly.

What I can't figure out is how the hell I got through high school. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what I did for procrastination. I learned to juggle and I learned how to flip a fedora in the air and have it land correctly on my head. I must have juggled little bean-bags for weeks straight...christ.

My senior year of high school, I got my first modem (2400 baud) and some of us would meet on AOL...but it was extremely slow (duh) and the lines were busy 90% of the time after 6 PM. Ahh, the memories....how did I really, really live without the internet?

I can go a week - 10 days then it's time to find a library or something to get my fix.

The worst is comeing back after a couple weeks and trying to catch up with 3000+ emails.

This is my first time having DSL, Ive had cable and T1 before. Is it just me or does dsl not seem as stable or consistant as cable. Higher ping times, variable bandwidth. It doesnt dip too far but doesnt seem to flow like cable. Well at least its not dial up.

Well... I just moved to a new place, and right now, everyone is asking for down payments to get anything set up.... and I think I live too far into BFE that I can't get any type of broadband... so it looks like I'm going to go a LOT longer before I've got internet at home. At least I can do a bit of surfing here and there from work.. though this has been my first time getting on TFP in weeks..
