What superpowers would you have?
 

I know this has been done before, but I want to bring in a small piece of info:

I read somewhere (don't ask me where, I have no clue) that males about 70% of the time actually choose "x-ray vision." over things like flying and super strength.

Second to vision was invisibility.

Now, my question is "do you really think these powers were chosen for they're obvious debauchery related qualities?" I mean, seriously, if 70-80% of guys choose x-ray vision and invisibility only so they can see/walk in the girls locker room, what does that say about all of us?

Screw your invisibility, I want instant travel... or chi manipulation.

Anybody else care to offer some change?

Immortality would be my first choice. Immortality makes most of lifes problems irrelevant. Aging? no problem... money isn't a problem anymore... throw a few hundred in the bank and get some interest.

I'd want to be able to use the entirty (100%) of my brain.

Dunno if that's a super-power or not, but pretty sure I could do some fantastic things if I wasn't limited to using only 13% of my brain's cerebral faculties.

If immortality counts as a superpower [I don't think it does] then I'm going with immortality.

But if it doesn't, then I'd have to go with controllable invisibility. Not for the lewd possibilities, but for the fact that being invisible means you would be absolutely free. Absolutely.

Teleportation, completely with the BAMPF-ing sound effect whenever I moved around. A prehensile tail would be pretty cool too, albeit awkward to explain to people. . .

Ability to alter time and objects within time.

ex. The presidant has a live announcement, you freeze time, drive there, yank down his pants, drive home, and let time resume. Same thing at the Oscars with hot celebs.

When your proff writes something on the board you freeze time and insert spelling mistakes and such.

During an exam you freeze time and copy all the answers from the brainiack, while at the same time replacing that person you hate's answers with the wrong ones.

Find out a lottery number, go back in time and pick it!

There are so many superpowers that i would like to have.

I guess a really cool one would be being able to manipulate another persons mind and getting them to do whatever you want.

Time changing is a pretty cool one. Other than that maybe ability to will people and ability to change myself into any shape I wanted.

Milliways changed my mind! I want the prehensile tail thing!

Mastery over time is one thing, but being able to hold three beers at once is way too cool to pass up!

I always thought Controlling Electricity would be great.

It'd be so awesome to be able to fly/levitate and be invisible/camouflaged. Basically, I want to be like a chameleon with wings, but still look human. I just think those are two neat abilities that human beings aren't able to manipulate without the aid of machines or some other man-made object. Imagine the illusion of wearing clothes and having to deal with less traffic. I think it'd be ideal.

Telekinesis would be mine. I could be pretty devious that way.

my first choice would be...how do you phrase it?....having the ability to alter my molecular structure so I could walk through solid objects or have things pass right through me. Basically just like Al (one of my favourite Dean Stockwell roles) is in Quantum Leap when he is back in the past with Dr. Beckett as a hologram.

my second choice would be probably just be NORMAL (who the fuck needs X-Ray vision?) extended sharp visual acuity, something around a eagle's range and clarity. Wearing glasses for 17 years has got me used to calling "clear vision/unassisted reading with naked eyes" 2 inches or less in front of my face.

edit: lowered the number for my "clear visual range" - 2 inches is still generous probably as the paper I try to read (just tested) is brushing against my nose at the time or very close to it.

I would like to be outside of time, meaning that while I can affect time it cannot affect me. It wouldn't be immortality (I'd still be capable of being killed), but I would never age. I could travel up and down the timeline, moving at whatever pace I felt like.

Animal magnetism :P Ok ok I know that's kinda along the x-ray/invisibility line:P I would most definately pick immortality.

Invisibility would be very cool ... easy to say you wouldn't do lewd things with it, but I don't see how you could stop yourself. It's like Kevin Bacon said in the movie "It's amazing what you can do when you don't have to look at yourself in the mirror".

Being able to see would be a problem. You can only see things when light hits your retina, and how could that happen if it's being bent around you or going through you? Problematic.

I'd like to be a polyglot - able to read/write/speak all languages perfectly (even extinct ones).

Oh - or maybe having mind-control powers.

I'd have to go with the mind control one. Either that or being able to move through time, where I could go to future or the past. It'd be just as good as immortality if not better.

Definitely mind-reading powers for me. I want to know EXACTLY what women are thinking. I would then write an extensive multiple-tome manual for men on the proper interaction with women, and vice-versa.

Its been said by a few people allready, Ive thought about this Q lots (am I crazy), no question the super power Id choose would be to control time.

I'd love to fly like Superman, although the thought of having x-ray vision AND invisibility is cool too. Having all three at the same time would make me dizzy with excitement.

I wouldn't say immortality.... I just want to live until the rest of humanity disappears.

The only reason I want to be immortal is to see the changes in the future of the world beyond my lifetime.

I've thought a lot about what I'd trade my soul to the Devil for. First would be the power to burst into green flames at will. Next would be flight. Third would be mind-reading capabilities, like total brain-wipe, know everything they ever knew. Fourth would be unlimited capacity, instant-recall memory. Fifth would be enough power to kill the Devil so he never got my soul. ;)

That's the kinda truncated list, though.

Immortality, definitely immortality. However, I would like to have one way of dieing that only I knew about - so if I ever felt it was time to go, I could.

Ultimate mental power. That includes:

I'm not 100% sure where I heard this or if it's correct, but we don't just use 13% of our brain - we actually use a great majority of it - each part for different activities.

I'd choose the ability to fly. Or invisibility...but not for the "OMG, GIRLS LOCKER ROOM" reasons.

Conciously you control about 10% of your brain, imagine what people could accomplish if all it took be the greatest human calculator was to merely think yourself those skills.

If I could have super powers I would def want to be able to fly... i mean who doesn't ?! And It would be awesome to be able to read minds... although I have a feeling that sometimes it's better if you don't know what others are thinking...

The ability to freezeframe the world would be extremely neat. You could effectively pause everyone and everything for any length of time. Ahhhh the peace and tranquility.

I would have to agree with the peeps who said Time-Alteration and Mind-Reading. Can you imagine going to a peace conference and being the mediator and mind-reading the leaders of the countries at war?

Y'know, I thought about this before...

I don't think I need flying all that much, not to say it wouldn't be cool. But, y'know, If I could jump super high and long distances, I think that would really quite awesome. I've often thought walking around places, that it would be sweet if I could just instantly jump up to the top of that building. Or if i could be on the other side of a field in a single leap.

Hell, just jumping rooftop to rooftop Tick-style in the night would be cool.

I would like REAL Ultimate Power like ninjas have.

It's a super power not science therefor no problem.

Mind Control for me. The ability to shape other minds like little blobs of silly putty would be too cool.

I respect all of you and yet I find I must disagree in my choice. I wouldn't choose immortality because of the vivisection incident in the Thieves' World novel. I hope I wouldn't choose controlling others because of the examples of absolute monarchs and their loneliness, dissipation, and brutality. I wouldn't choose invisibility because I believe it would make me feel alienated as in H.G. Wells' novel the Invisible Man.

I think I'd pick self-control as a superpower, the ability to change my body and direct my actions. I'd perfect the qualities of my mind and body in various ways. Then I'd make myself speak kindly, practice towards excellence, and pursue my dreams. (I had gone into detail about what specifically I'd do with this ability but decided to control myself.)

Be invisible, or at least have EXP that operates like the ray gun in Orgazmo. That would be funny, and id be even more populare with the ladies.

Best all around superpower to have:

Telekinesis to the subatomic-particle level. That means that I can manipulate objects all the way down to the level of electrons.

Therefore I can easily fly, render myself invisible, create fusion (for energy or destruction), etc.

I suppose if I knew enough science I could do just about anything with that power. Stop my aging process, manipulate the flow of hormones and impulses in peoples minds (think: making girls horny!!), make myself more physically attractive, increase my intellectual capacity as by reprogramming my genetic structure... just think of all the possibilities!!...

I can be a lazy sack, so teleporting is for me.
Gotta be at work in 5 minutes, I'm there. Hungry but it's not a commercial, two quick teleports and your at the fridge and back on the couch in no time.

Although X-ray vision would be pretty kickass :)

Flight is overrated.

First what you can carry is limited to your strength... unless you feel like strangling yourself trying to defy gravity.... You can fly, your luggage cannot. Secondly there are bugs.. and birds. Oh lets not ignore rain. Have you ever driven in rain with the windows down at 60 MPH? It hurts! So how do you plan on stopping that? Aside from the fact you're probabl higher than any tree.. best to not wear any metal. Oh yeah and the speed facter.. One would think you could only go so fast. I'd rather teleport WITH NO CHANCE OF FAILURE. personally.

As to what power I'd want.. I'll make a list tomarrow when i'm between classes, as right now I'd like to get some sleep ;)

Think about it. Just eat a big meal and, a hour or so later, you have a couple hundred bucks. If you shit two or three hundred a day, there's no need to earn a living, just do what you want.

I play SuperHero RPG, so I can just list a bunch of funs ones.

Telportation (with no chance of failure) would be nice. Even if there was a range.. teleporting onto a plane wouldn't be too hard. ;) Besides, we've all seen X-Men 2.. :)

Telekensises: Not only could you pull the best pranks in the world, but you could stop bullets.. ALMOST simulate flight. Have an instant parachute at any moment. Immobilize any foe. And best of all, make manhole covers the greatest weapons of all time. :D

Phasing AKA Dispersal AKA Ethreal(for you D&Ders out there :)) With this ability, walls would be of no consequence. You could be shot, as the bullets would pass through you. You could go anywhere, and not worry (aside from water :D).

Matter Manipulation Hey! Now I can turn these pile of bricks into...... GOLD!.... or maybe even a boat! :) Heck, You could drive to florida for spring break, and just drive your car to the waters edge, and then make it a sweet boat. Works for me.

Force Manipulation This is a personal favorite. It is much like the Green Lantern power. I want a hammer.. Poof, I make it out of thin air, and disappears when I no longer need it. Hmm, he's gonna shoot me "POOF" a big metal wall now stands before me. Car? "POOF"... just think of the possibilities. INSTANT JETPACK! (flight. hehehehe)

photographic memory I don't have this, it would be sweet If I did. I could then just read everything once or twice and never forget it. That would be so sweet. Think about foreign language as well, once you learn it, you'd never forget it.

I'm sure I could name more, but those are definately some fun ones to play with ;)

I've always thought of invisibility as my 1st option. But lately, i've been thinkig a lot and there are 2 things that i'd love to be able to do:
1.- Morphing, the ability to become whatever i want!
2.- The ability to know the exact location of persons/objects. I would never have to yell where are the f....g keys!! anymore, and i bet the CIA would pay me a good bunch of bucks for revealing Osama's whereabouts.

Flying through space. Sometimes ya just need to get away. That power would be usefull when that happens.

Also, mind control would be a nice one. Then I could drive as fast as I wanted to work without worrying about getting a ticket.

Since matter=energy, your pretty much set.

If you don't like something, remove their subatomic bonds, and poof, no more atoms.

Just think about it, just tinker with the quarks in your house, and poof, it's made of gold.

I only have one problem for you energy/atom manipulator peoples:

Binding energies. This is the energy between protons and neutrons in the nucleus. It's the energy that holds an atom together. By breaking an atom, you release this energy (it's quite a bit per atom).

Basically what I'm getting at is: by turning an entire house into gold, you'll probably destroy half of your city.... there are a lot of atoms in a house.

Nah, if you had complete control of energy, you'd simply (ok, not simply, but it's too early to go into elementary particle physics) turn the excess energy into matter, giving your house an extension, or release it in a way that didn't destroy everything including your house.


But, as someone else said, omnipitance is really the only way to go.

And your manual would end up on the Internet hours after its release, if not before, for ten easy payments of nothing.

Healthy Immortality (lets not get into what ifs but generally remain the same health, age, height .. ect) I would probaly long to know the secrets of death but I figure after the human race dies out I strap myself in a rocket and set me sights on the first potentionaly populated planet.

My power would to be able to pick any power I wanted. Some might include..
-Insibility
-Move objects with mind
-Read minds
-Time travel
-Jump between alternate dimensions
-Be able to walk through matter
-Super speed reading

Maybe it would be cool to be able to alter things, but alter people's perceptions of the things as well. So I could be like...I own Microsoft. And everybody in the world would accept that to be something that has always been true.

I'd also most like to turn back time. Like goof the hell off for a couple days, do some stupid stuff, then turn time back to 2 days ago and do something else for 2 days. I'd also want to bring stuff back with me from each time loop. So I could collect money from each loop and come back to original time, and have a ton of money. Or something.

Wisdom: knowing anything on command, whenever. Every scientific fact, every thought of any human, any action or wherabouts of any entity. I know all pics and vids YOU have ever wanked to. Just everything, really.

And nothing but the actual, factual truth. That would be quite cool. Too bad a lot of people would want you dead, then.
So i'll still be needing superman to protect my all-knowing ass.

Speed, like the Flash.

The time that I save by not having to commute would probably give me another 2 hours a day, plus I could get my job done in fractions of the time, so I could do many different jobs per day if I found supervisors who would pay me by how much I do, not how long I work.

Plus, who would need to take a whole week off work for a vacation- just run there super fast! I would be able to anywhere without paying for travel- I could run fast enough to go over water.

The only thing I would change is the science behind it. The Flash's metabolism was so high that he would have had to eat nearly every second. That would really hinder my speed plans, so I would change that part of it.

Sorry, had to run to Paris real quick for a cafe au lait.

I would go with Karby and say infinite knowledge of all time and the universe, or the subatomic particle manipulation theory. That's pretty sweet, albeit cheating ;)

One thing I would not even want to have wished upon me is immortality. Who in their right mind would want that? It would rob you of everything that makes life special. I think Ray Kurzweil said it better than I ever could:

“Take death for example. A great deal of our effort goes into avoiding it. We make extraordinary efforts to delay it and often consider its intrusion a tragic event. I'd like to be an automatic polyglot, too. I'd love to speak more than the two languages I know already...it would be thrilling.

Healing powers (to heal my self and others)
Polyglot (all languages including computers and aliens)
Invunerability (kind of negates the need to heal myself)
Flight (without being invulnerable it would suck but seeing as I don't need to worry about hitting objects at high speed...)

Shapeshifting oh the hours i could spend as a kitten sitting on the hood of a cops car in a speed trap asking him if he really thinks he should have a job where he carrys a gun. Just think how much fun it would be being able to change into a big bird and taking a dump on a annoying neighbor or inlaw. or just to suddenly turn into a cow in the middle of a busy airport. all the things i could do to mess with peoples minds... it would be endless fun.

I would love to be able to snap my fingers and end up anywhere in the world. Snap - I'm in a bank vault. Snap - I'm back home with a hell of alot of money! :)
