A month without internet is hell

I got a new job, and it took me a month to finally get internet set up. It was one tough month, but im back up and running :)

laconic1 09-03-2003 02:03 PM

I've been there before. Just got back from three months without TFP. It really is hell.

i_t_man 09-03-2003 03:04 PM

the kids are feeling it too....

taking away internet as punishment

GoldenOuroboros 09-03-2003 04:30 PM

boden11 09-03-2003 07:49 PM

thats why god made internet cafes. u can get ur caffeine fix and get a decent amount of time (20 mins) to surf the web for free. just make sure to clear ur cookies and internet cache and not go into anything too personal in case of keyloggers/whatnot. (tho that's not a LIKELY case, it is very POSSIBLE). <shrug> im just paranoid

onodrim 09-03-2003 08:40 PM

One month, bah! Try going the whole summer without a working computer or decent internet connection. Wimp. :p ;)

BTW, I'm completely kidding. I completely understand how you feel, and I'm sorry you had to go through a whole month wihtout a connection. Glad that it's working finally! :)

Lestat 09-03-2003 08:45 PM

I'd hate to even think about it. It hard enough to go a couple of days without it.

DelayedReaction 09-03-2003 08:53 PM

It's odd. I use the internet constantly when I"m here, but I don't miss it when it's not here. Assuming I have something to do (paint, work on RPG's, meet people) it doesn't phase me that I'm totally unplugged.

Blistex 09-03-2003 08:56 PM

Over the summer when I'm at the cottage I do without internet access for about 4 months. By the end of the first month I don't even miss it. But that first day back I can use about a gig of bandwidth in an evening.

Steph 09-03-2003 09:31 PM

I am truly addicted. What did we do before google?

captwheelz23 09-03-2003 09:52 PM

It does not matter how many options are available, whether it be an online cafe, library, friend's computer, etc, nothing is better than sitting in your own home playing on the internet. Even a short time without internet can seem like forever.

yuckasquad 09-03-2003 10:11 PM

i need internet or im just sitting around staring into space. without the internet i wouldn't know what the heck is going on around the world or in the gaming world ^^.

Same here, when I go on holidays, I dont even think about the internet, but when Im at home, can't go more than a few days without at least checking my email. I dont log on everyday though at home.

ironx 09-03-2003 11:30 PM

if i had a life; i wouldn't be here. 2 days is too much for me; much less a mth ><

bulakbol master 09-03-2003 11:56 PM

Once I had a complete hard drive meltdown, and I, being the poor college student I am, had to save up for two months to buy a new one.

I swear I had withdrawals for the first two weeks -- jittery, irritable... I realized, "Damn, I gotta get a life." :p

PulpMind 09-04-2003 01:06 AM

I'm addicted to the internet.. have been since I was about 15 and got AOL =P
which is strange, because I don't think my views on life and my general lifestyle is otherwise very "internet-like"...

sometimes... alot of the time... I wish my internet would just go away, for a long time, so I can live my life as me, and not as someone who wastes hours on a fucking box.

bah.

JTC 09-04-2003 02:07 AM

hehehe

It is scary when you start thinking about it

Maybe we'll be able to sue the makers of the internet in about 50 years for making it addictive :p

Dude, if you admit that you know the internet is addictive now, your lawsuit will get thrown out...so shhhh be very very quiet.

Yeah, like "playing" on those "special" sites.

j/k, I think I know what you mean though. Late at night, everyones sleeping...in short, no disturbances.

Just sitting around in your most casual of wear, drinking a nice beverage getting your fix.

Kaos 09-04-2003 06:35 PM

I would wither and die if I had to go that long without the internet...Just waiting a week for my internet to get hooked up when I moved was torture...

dr_clocker 09-04-2003 08:39 PM

Now that I have the internet back, I feel lost, like I dont know what I am doing. Its wierd. I have to remeber the cool sites I used to go to. At least I remembered these forums :)

battlemouth 09-05-2003 10:17 AM

i lost my internet for two weeks cause the company that provided it got hit by lightning. i missed the tfp greatly.

Blue 09-05-2003 10:41 AM

not having access to the internet is like not being able to get a hard on. life just aint worth living.

bernadette 09-05-2003 10:45 AM

my internet was up & down like an elevator for a month whilst the folks at sprint worked to figured out the sudden cause. i was just about to go postal by the time they finally found the source of the problem.

when i last flew there was pay internet computers by the boarding gate. yup, i fed it my money for my fix before i boarded. sad..... very sad ;)

quadro2000 09-05-2003 12:16 PM

When I went on a two week vacation to Hawaii last February, I figured I'd be online at least once a day (I was staying with family who had net access). I logged on once, and that was it. I missed not really knowing what was going on with parts of the news that interested me, but other than that, I was fine. Similarly, when I was without cable TV for a month, I was fine with it. But when it's there, I use it constantly.

What I can't figure out is how the hell I got through high school. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what I did for procrastination. I learned to juggle and I learned how to flip a fedora in the air and have it land correctly on my head. I must have juggled little bean-bags for weeks straight...christ.

My senior year of high school, I got my first modem (2400 baud) and some of us would meet on AOL...but it was extremely slow (duh) and the lines were busy 90% of the time after 6 PM. Ahh, the memories....how did I really, really live without the internet?

etla 09-07-2003 12:10 PM

I can go a week - 10 days then it's time to find a library or something to get my fix.

The worst is comeing back after a couple weeks and trying to catch up with 3000+ emails.

Lyaec123 09-07-2003 08:13 PM

Damn man, I agree, I couldn't even think about not having internet... it would suck sooooooooo bad, plus, just about everything I do revolves around using the internet for some reason or another.

dr_clocker 09-07-2003 08:17 PM

This is my first time having DSL, Ive had cable and T1 before. Is it just me or does dsl not seem as stable or consistant as cable. Higher ping times, variable bandwidth. It doesnt dip too far but doesnt seem to flow like cable. Well at least its not dial up.

LutherMac 09-09-2003 11:43 AM

Well... I just moved to a new place, and right now, everyone is asking for down payments to get anything set up.... and I think I live too far into BFE that I can't get any type of broadband... so it looks like I'm going to go a LOT longer before I've got internet at home. At least I can do a bit of surfing here and there from work.. though this has been my first time getting on TFP in weeks.. :(

a2k 09-09-2003 04:25 PM

I look forward to stretches of time where I won't have access to computers.
