SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - No sex please -- this is politics.
Porn actress Mary Carey, one of 135 candidates running for California governor, offered on Tuesday to go on a date with anyone offering her a hefty campaign contribution. But that is it, just a date,

Carey said she would offer a dinner date to anyone giving more than $5,000 to her campaign that seeks to replace Gov. Gray Davis if he is recalled by voters on Oct. 7.

"As an independent, I don't have a large political party backing me," she said in a statement. "So I have to be creative and develop more unconventional methods of raising money."

Asked if the date could lead to a sexual encounter, campaign aide Jayson Helgeson replied: "I don't think so, that's not part of it. It's like a normal date."

Pressed to clarify what a normal date means for a woman who has appeared in both explicit lesbian and heterosexual scenes, he put the phone on hold to clarify and then responded: "No sex, no matter what."

My Gubernatorial Platform
The most important issue facing California right now is our $38 billion deficit and 6.7% unemployment rate. California needs a governor who will get our finances in order! 6. As Governor, I will recruit fellow performers from the adult video industry as ambassadors of good will. These ambassadors will be a great help to California when it comes to such things as negotiating rates for buying electricity from neighboring states.

7. I will coordinate the state’s unemployment and jury systems, so that anyone who applies for unemployment will instantly be called for jury duty. This will save California state and local governments millions of dollars, because we won’t have to pay for jury duty. It will also relieve those with jobs from the stress of serving on lengthy juries.

8. I will fight the federal government's attempts to harass the adult video industry. Adult video is an $11 billion industry that creates more than $23 million in taxes each year for the state of California. We can't afford to lose this tax base!

OK, a couple of points (just to be technical).

1) Gray Davis is not a candidate. Since he is the person being recalled, he is not allowed to run to replace himself The election is actually 2-parts. First, should he be recalled. Then, if he is who should replace him. If he is not recalled, the second question is irrelevant.

2) How is a $5,000 dinner date different from a $1,000 a plate dinner? The difference is that you get to spend dinner alone with her, instead of eating rubber chicken with a few hundred other suckers who get to hear the same speech.

That all said, this process is ludicrous when you consider that he hasn't broken any laws. He's being recalled for buyer's remorse. I guess that's what happens when you can vote for "None of the Above".
