Important papers
I had the misfortune of working in the Insurance Adjustment industry many years ago. Insurance adjusters are people that are really, really good at numbers, but don't have the personality to be accountants. (Sorry in advance BonesCPA)
I saw a lot of burned out houses. Funny though, the inside of the fridge was always spared. Even in the most extreem cases. I've kept copies of all of my important documents in an empty mayo jar in the fridge for 25 years. Insurance papers, wills, stuff like that. It's a great way to preserve important stuff. |
That is interesting. I have no really truely important papers. So I just throw everything in my back pack. But Ill take this into consideration.
Screw the papers. If my house catches on fire I'm jumping into the fridge. Sure, I'd probably suffocate but... wait, that still sucks. Maybe if I take some scuba gear in with me...
Then there's always safe deposit boxes. :)
I've been messing with the idea of getting one of those cases that can't be burnt up in fires to put some important stuff of mine in... but I think i'll save myself some money and keep stuff in my fridge now. I might even toss my record collection in there... or maybe not...
i just got a safe deposit box. made me feel all grown up. it's obscenely cheap - $9/year- and fun because you get to hang out in the bank vault.
I had a friend that got one of those super locking fire/earthquake/huricane/tsunami proof boxes to protect all of his valuable things. The funny part was that he got it mostly to keep me from finding pictures of his girlfriend. :)
It wasn't long after that I became an adept lock pick. |
Shhhhhhhhhh. I've been so transitory all my life that I don't like to think about what would happen if my papers got lost. I keep them real close, right where I know where they are.
I keep a copy of the important stuff, including photos of the furniture/electronics, in my desk at work.
SCREW THE PAPERS.........I'm more important then them in case of fire..........let em burn:D
i already have a safe deposit box containing all my important papers... i also keep about 5 grand in cash in there... just for emergencies and such.. :)
thats great advice.
would a safe in the house give the same sort of protection against fire as the fridge? as for safe deposit boxes... i havenīt the faintest idea of how to get one... are they in every bank? or are they only in the big ones in the city? |
great advice indeed.
but my wife disagrees with me about keeping porn in the refrigerator :( |
I burn all my important papers before pesky fire can interfere.
"Get 'Em First" I was always told to "Be Prepared", well I prepare by fireproofing them by fire :) EDIT: Fuck the IRA.. wait no.... I meant IR... BOOOM!!! Ah, I can move faster than the taxman. I will never visit some countries, haha. |
That's an interesting thought, Peetster. If I ever have anything that should survive me I hope I'll remember your suggestion.
