I'm Scared

August 17, 2003 LANGLEY -- A man was killed Saturday when his long hair got caught in the amusement park ride he owned, pulling him up as high as 40 feet before he fell, back-first, onto a fence. Doug McKay, 40, was the co-owner of Paradise Amusements, based in Post Falls, Idaho. He was spraying lubricant on the tracks of the Super Loop 2, a roller coaster-type ride at the Island County Fair on Whidbey Island. The ride was in progress at the time, and McKay's hair got caught on a car full of fairgoers, said sheriff's spokeswoman Jan Smith. He was pulled between 25 and 40 feet into the air. "It basically scalped him, and he fell and landed on the fence," Smith said. Hundreds of people witnessed the accident, Smith said, and grief counselors were on hand. It was unclear whether anyone on the ride might have tried to reach McKay. Paradise Amusements had set up rides at the Island County Fair for the past three years, Smith said. She said the fair continued after the incident. ---------------------------------------------------------- having long hair, makes me a little cautious |
ugh... that's horrible.
I am so glad I don't work in an amusement park |
I sure am glad I shave my head!
|
Oh my! That's horrible. Ratbastid used to have really long hair and when we went on amusement park rides he'd have to tuck it under his arm or inside his shirt or something so it wouldn't fly around. Scary indeed!
|
Damn...I used to have hair down to my ass. That is definitely not one way I want to die.
|
damn... i have long hair... mechanical items and hair don't mix, amusement park ride, farm equipment, manufacturing equipment... none of them.
|
Cut your hair, you look like a girl!
I should shave my head, I can be impervious to this sort of thing, and I'll see if my head is shaped oddly. |
wow that is terrible... terrible
reminds me kinda of when i was really little and skiing, my jacket got caught on the chairlift, but i didnt know it until i tried to get off, and i immediately fell and got jerked and swung around the thing, and then it starting pulling me down the mountain, hanging only by one of those tighten straps. I didnt get too far until they hit the panic button tho. And i got a free hot chocoalte for it! |
Yet another reason why I like keeping my hair short.
|
Uh, guys. Did you read the article? He wasn't *riding* the coaster, he was oiling the tracks while the ride was in progress. That's pretty dumb.
Obviously they are designed to be safe for rider's with long hair. Still, it's a horrible way to die. |
hehehehehe. Dumb, mullet wearing carnie.
|
Wonder if he'll make the darwin awards ;p
|
Carnies..who'da thunk?
|
oh gee..... I can almost feel the pain....... ouch....
|
thats so horrible... man..

Gah... what a horrible way to go.
|
Not only was my long hair tough to wash and scary looking when I got out of bed, but it prevented me from greasing roller coasters while they were operating.
Just one more reason I'm glad I got my hair cut short. |
Yeah, plus god hates liberals and guys with long hair.
|
That just sounds painful.
There was a (supposed) incident years ago at Kings Island, long before Paramount reared its ugly head, with a ride called The Bat. It was a suspended coaster that just ran along a giant bike chain. Apparently, a woman with long hair got caught in the links...I don't remember exactly what happened. I think they just shut the ride down, but still...that's just not fun. I just hope that people don't start trying to sue the park over this. |
goes to show short hair is the way to go
|
Truly tragic way to die. Also, imagine the people who witnessed it first-hand. Wow.
|
now that is a crappy way to die. you don't normally think something you have personal pride in will lead to your death. ouch.
|
I've got a friend who's a product liability attorney for a roller coaster company. These things are a lot more common than we think. According to my friend, though, it's always the person who got killed or their partents' fault.
I've also got a friend who is an attorney for one of the large elevator companies. Her stories of escalator accidents are much scarier. Ever hear of "degloving"? |
hmm i used to get my hair caught in stuff all the time so i cut it then i cut it and now it just barely touches my shoulders and i hate it . . . I want my Long Hair BACK
never got that caught though. . . the carnies that come to my town for neewollah are kinda scary |
ok long hair has its disavantages.
but after seeing pirates of the carribean u have to admit ... if you want to keep a chance going for ever becoming a pirate, you need long hair. hairpower !!!! |
Yeah, seriously, that asshat was lubing the tracks while the ride was running. Good thing he wasn't maimed in some other way that would have injured the riders.
|
ok i think its bad that he died, but its kinda funny too...
