What's with this damn weather???

I know MrSelfDestruct had this thread up before, but I think it's even more pertinent now. It's what, April 24th? And guess what--it's snowing! Snow? In april? What the heck is going on?? Why can't it be nice and sunny and warm? The only good thing I can see about it is, if it's still gross out, the weather will keep me in my room during study days, so I'll have that much more of a chance of actually studying. I just looove upstate NY weather...

Grondar 04-23-2003 07:18 PM

It has been weird here as well lately (Eastern PA).

Last week some days were very warm, but then it would get cold and rain. This week has been cold as well, and it is quite weird considering it is April.

I am not a fan of cold weather at all. :(

krwlz 04-23-2003 07:20 PM

i say, yea it sucks, but fuck it, its just weather, and we cant do anything about it anyway...

Sure we can... we just bribe the weatherman. If we give him enough money, I'm sure he'll change the weather for us. That's what they do, right? :p

BBtB 04-23-2003 07:30 PM

Don't know about y'all but here in oklahoma the weather has been fine. Real nice actully. A little warm a few days and it rained today but other then that its been great. So :p of course we also get like 2 months of good weather all year but thats another story.

Somenosuke 04-23-2003 07:51 PM

We had a frost advisory last night, but it doesn't really bother me. It's better than tornados.

snowy 04-23-2003 08:26 PM

In Oregon it's been raining some days and sunny others...makes for a hard time when you want to go lay out in the grass on sunny days and the ground is still soggy :( It also makes it difficult when it's sunny in the morning and rains in the afternoon and you're walking all over campus :( ::sigh:: I console myself with the fact that May starts next week and the weather better improve...:(

MSD 04-23-2003 09:09 PM

You're in upstate NY, and I'm walking around near the CT coast in sandals and shorts. That explains it. If you were back home, nothing would seem abnormal.

Scratch that, I blame El Niņo.

World's King 04-24-2003 12:08 AM

I blame the weather on Iraq... I'm not sure how but I bet it's their fault.

LordEden 04-24-2003 12:17 AM

I'm in Boone, NC (Hippie-Fucking-Villie) and snowing in april is not that uncommon, hell it's not uncommon to have 70's one day and by midnight have 2 inches of snow on the ground with more coming, then have 70's two days later. I think our atomosphere is just being fucked up more and more every year which is causeing massive weird weather, or Old man winter is smoking crack again, either way...

guthmund 04-24-2003 01:13 AM

I'm in the south/midwest region and we've been getting some horrible electrical storms. Last night we had a 20 minute burst that threw up two tornados. Fricken unbelievable.

It was 83 degrees today at noon, it was 54 degrees at midnight.

That Mother Nature bitch needs to get her shit together....:)

Sun Tzu 04-24-2003 01:55 AM

either the natural changes the Earth is going to go through reguardless of anything humans do, or chemtrails that are not doing what they're intended to do, or H.A.R.P. . . I know break out the hats

zizdog69 04-24-2003 01:58 AM

I think its a government conspiracy!! They've got that big microwave dish on a mountain and they are sending out huge amounts of electricity to brainwash us. All its doing though is changing the fucking weather!!

gibber71 04-24-2003 06:28 AM

It snowed in Ottawa yesterday but that was just because the week early it was very warm and the politicians brains started to thaw;hence the need for a cold snap.

gov135 04-24-2003 06:37 AM

Record low in Cleveland for today - 28 degrees. Wonderful stuff.

troit 04-24-2003 06:48 AM

Yeah -- I talked to my folks yesterday who live in Rome NY. They said they were expecting flurries -- incredible huh?

sierra2774 04-24-2003 07:12 AM

It is finally a really beautiful day here in Ohio...I little bit chilly but I think it is supposed to be warming up by the weekend.

Maybe I will finally get motivated to working in my flower garden.

Daval 04-24-2003 07:22 AM

God is mad at us :(

shalafi 04-24-2003 07:33 AM

i dunno what yall are bitchin about the weathers fine here. Its sunny and 77 degrees

phoenix1002 04-24-2003 08:05 AM

Shalafi: Where are you??? Wherever you are, I want to be there with my mtb... and no school work.

zizdog: Just wait till 29 April 2003!!!!! An unknown person will release WORLD SHATTERING pictures that reveal that the submarines on the mountains are really weather control devices, located in strategic positions around the world, which the mysterious faction will use to KILL US ALL and repopulate the world with selected people that they SAVE! :p

shalafi 04-24-2003 08:12 AM

south florida bro. kinda between melbourne and palm beach

holtmate 04-24-2003 08:14 AM

Here in Cincinnati, we live by one thing...if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes! All of these strange changes in the weather are pretty much taken for granted around here...come with living in a valley, I guess. The worst part about it is the sinus problems it give me.

I say that all the time too. Guess it's just part of living in Ohio this time of year.

They got them, I work in Rome and had to drive home last night, in the snow, visiblity was probably around 10-15 ft

BubblegumTeflon 04-24-2003 04:12 PM

I hate wind, it's been horribly windy this past week. I've almost fallen over a couple of times, it hits with short nasty gusts. One of them felt like a car hit me it was so bad.

Liquor Dealer 04-24-2003 05:49 PM

We had gusts up to 62 MPH this afternoon - supposed to blow again tomorrow. The sky is beginning to turn brown and smell like cow shit!

trptman1982 05-28-2003 12:30 AM

Oregon sucks.... just the other day we had sunny weather ( like 75 degrees) cold as F*ck weather( like 40 degrees) we had rainbows, Hail, slushy shit, sun and sunburns all within like, 7 hours.... BULLSH*T!

maleficent 08-01-2006 11:29 AM

the last time we talked abot the weather... the complaint was of cold... NOW... where i 'm sitting it's 97 degrees (36 C) with a heat index of 110 (43C) and tomorrow is supposed to be hotter... I HATE THE HOT WEATHER... More murders happenin the summer I'll bet because it makes people HOSTILE...

How's the weather by you?

shoegirl 08-01-2006 11:34 AM

I'm with you Mal. I absolutely hate hot weather... although I'm not a fan of cold weather either. Here in Ohio it's about 95 degrees today and it's only supposed to get worse. Is it fall yet?

Ample 08-01-2006 11:41 AM

I LOVE IT

100 here. I'll take that over anything below 65 degrees any day of the year. At home and in the car no A/C for me windows downs and just enjoying the heat.

JustJess 08-01-2006 11:43 AM

I'm considering making love to my air conditioner.

and I just know that the damned power is going to fail us again, because I can't imagine that ConEd did anything other than stop-gap measures from the last time (2 weeks ago).

Bzzzzz wrong, more people are murdered in the summer since they are not stuck inside trying to keep warm in the brutal cold.

I hate cold weather, give me 100 over 0 any day

see you're being hostile.. proved my point - :D

/me murders ustwo :D

snowy 08-01-2006 11:54 AM

It cooled off here at long last. Those of us in the PacNW do not do well in the heat. Two days of 106 degrees with a higher heat index was too much for me. It only hits that about once every ten years or so, but if it gets up over 85...I start whining.

But today it is 75 and perfect.

Yup... I'm not even IN the PNW anymore, but my Seattle soul is simply liquefying in this east-coast heat. Philly is unbelievable right now. I would take a good long Seattle-ish month of rain over this weather, any day... god, I miss rain. I miss coolness. I even miss the PA winter that seems so very far away. Can I really be thinking of snow in August?? :)

I could handle this heat, if the humidity was cut in half... but no chance of that happening on the east coast. Iceland is definitely calling my name right now.

ngdawg 08-01-2006 12:18 PM

It's freakin disgusting out...96 last time I checked today. Work requires 'casual office wear and no sleeveless shirts or blouses.' Oh, and no sneakers. So I sweat getting to work, I sweat AT work....not a good look when dealing with people...
Didn't we all say we couldn't wait til Summer last February? What the hell were we thinking???

Final thought: how on earth can people retire to Phoenix or FL? Me? I'm retiring to northern Canada....you cn get relief from the cold with a nice fireplace or something...when it's 100 out, AC doesn't do much.

aberkok 08-01-2006 03:27 PM

Well I know that at least southern Canada also feels like a kiln today. I like wearing, and looking at people wearing less clothing (well most of them anyway). I like to think I can deal with the heat until someone buds in front of me on the subway and I wake up from a haze with blood on my hands. Mal...why didn't I listen to you sooner!!! Why god....WHY!!!???

maleficent 08-01-2006 03:37 PM

it's ok aberkok, we'll just blame air conditioned ustwo for the murder :)

That was me last week...

Normalcy will return eventually, and so will your sanity. In the meantime, hole up with popsicles.

I just had 2...mmmm orange creamsicles!

Elphaba 08-01-2006 04:28 PM

Also, ice towels on your head and pressure points. Instant relief from the heat. :)

Gatorade Frost 08-01-2006 04:39 PM

Huh...

It's been sitting around 100 here for the last two months and 0 rain. Yay! Droughts!

But oddly enough the weather says the day after tomorrow we're going to be getting negative temperatures and blizzards...

Eweser 08-02-2006 04:48 AM

It's hot here in OK (we've had 19 days of 100+ degrees), but the wind has blown the past couple of days so that's helped. What we need is rain.......I can't even remember what rain looks like.....

Leto 08-02-2006 05:35 AM

Yes, record highs. 36 degrees, with a humidex of 48 yesterday. (not sure how that translate into the old F scale) Got to say, I love it. It wont be long before we are day dreaming of this weather, while shovelling the car out of a snowbank...

Redlemon 08-02-2006 05:56 AM

I want every season to be shorter. We could go through 8 seasons per year, I think that would be perfect. That way, we wouldn't get sick of any particular season. Might mess up the crops, though...

Yes!! I just discovered that miracle cure yesterday, while sitting in the convection oven known as my car in north Philly. What a relief!!

Meanwhile, I am lucky enough to take a morning off from working in the heat today, so that I can get organized and attack my job with renewed vigor tomorrow. I am pretty drained from the heat alone. Tomorrow will be just as hot, but I'm determined to make the most of it after my day off!

KnifeMissile 08-02-2006 09:24 PM

For the past few days, it has never fallen below 27° centigrade (81° fahrenheit) over the course of the night! Seriously, there's been no sun for eight hours and it's still this hot! The humidity is brutal too...

I've been running my air conditioner 24/7 and I feel bad about it 'cause I know how much our government subsidizes our electricity... but I need it or I would die of heat stroke!

Bill O'Rights 08-03-2006 04:32 AM

Take heart northeasterners. Yesterday, the temp in Omaha dropped to the mid 80s, after 5 straight days of triple digits, and two weeks in the high 90s. The humidity was still up there, but bearable. (I've actually heard native Floridians complain about Omaha's humidity) This morning? The temp was in the upper 60s and the humidity had broken. Relief!

Maybe it was just my imagination...but I could swear that I could actually smell the green starting to come back into the flora.

So, sweat away. Relief is on the horizon. I know that my A/C is going to get some much needed rest.

oberon 08-03-2006 07:58 AM

Yeah, it may be very hot today, but tomorrow it'll be gone. You'll all be feeling a lot better tomorrow I'm sure. Buck up, eastern US TFPers.

I'm glad I don't live in the midwest anymore. Here in Denver we rarely if ever see a "heat index". As a former Detroit area resident, I'll take Denver at 100 degrees actual temperature over a heat index of 100 degrees in Detroit any day. Those heat indices are slanted downwards, if you ask me.

That said.. the weather patterns seems to be changing. Maybe it's just me, but in Detroit in the early to mid 1990s I remember getting first snow in October or November... these days it seems it doesn't happen until December. And as earlier posts in this thread indicate, the winter veil doesn't seem to lift until late April or so, when it used to be early-mid March. I can only conclude that the spring seems to be getting shorter and the fall much longer, with winter pushed forward. So the temperature ramps up a lot faster in the "spring" than it used to.
