City to Expose Cheating Couples

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.j...toryID=3256400 HANOI (Reuters) - Fretting over the erosion of traditional values, officials of a city in communist Vietnam are to publicly expose anyone caught having an affair. District police chief Tran Dinh Thich from the central city of Danang said the names of people caught in adulterous acts would be displayed in media. Police and local government will carry out regular inspections of "resting houses," or cheap motels that rent rooms by the hour, to "wipe out the social evils" that have aroused public concern, he was quoted as saying Saturday in the Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper. Thousands of "resting houses" have sprung up around Vietnam, catering to unmarried couples seeking to circumvent taboos on co-habitation and pre-marital sex in the conservative southeast Asian country. State employees violating the rules will be reported to their offices. ---------------------------------------- Do think that this hard-line stance against extra-marital flings will discourage most people from continuing/starting affairs or will they just find other avenues to participate in extra-marital activity? |
*sigh*
I can't see where this even begins to be a good idea. It's not up to the government to keep marriages in check, it's up to the man and woman. Doing this will only drive those commiting adulterous into further secrecy. |
It's another country. Keep that in mind.

damn commies!

There are many things that occur in other countries that fly against our sense of right and wrong, but it makes you think about the things you take for granted here, in the US.

different country and different cultures have different rules. Singapore doesn't look well on long haired people. They have actually requested people to cut their hair before continuing through customs.
While it may fly in the face as to our sense of right and wrong in the western world, there is something of at least having the "mirage" of family values. Discretion is where it's at, it's not spoken about mistresses, other marriages, and even other bastard children. If you think that our western (US) culture is prudish with their lack of sexuality, the Easterners are decades behind us. |
amazing. never thought communists would tend to moral values.
never thought communists do do something like this........ |
this reminds me of the city that started running mugshots of prostitutes and clients on the local news.
|
eh, let them do what they want. they're going to do it anyway...
|
The history of our country's settlers has similar events recorded. It used to be that adulterous women were branded or tatooed.
It's a shame to see that not all have learned from the past. Clearly governments role in relationships needs to be very limited... |
I find it amazing that countries so near each other can have such different values (i.e. Thailand and Vietname). However we certainly see it in the Western Hemisphere as well.
|
This just screams "scarlett letter" to me.
I personally think it isn't anyone's business, except for the significant others. Isn't there a way to just inform them of the infidelity, rather than making it public? |
The divorce rate will go through the roof if this is carrie dout in America.

Concidering the divorce rate is so high, divorsce ties up so much money and time in the court system to deal with these cases. |
