i'm 2 months out of the acclaimed hazelden rehab institute (hazelden.org). trying to drop my 2-decade long dance with booze & coke. 4 months straight now and feeling cautiously optimistic.........

Have you joined any communal support groups? AA / NA? They come with great recommendations and you'll make some great friends.

With every serious junky, I've heard nothing but complaints about AA and NA.

Their model of using something else as the scapegoat of their addiction is also something I do not approve of.

It's amazing how well they work when you just go... all the stupid cliches the stupid mantras it frikkin works...

It took me over a year of soberity until I started going to them and my life was still shit even though I had quit using...they really do make the difference

great... keep the faith.

Be it your own inner strength, or needing more support from others, decide for yourself that it's important enough to keep doing somethig about it.

That's fucking badass.

I'm 4 years clean from any drug. I still drink (which sucks) but I haven't touched a drug.

I spent three months in the hospital when I was 17... another six in a rehab clinic in Colorado. I am very proud of my progress... you should be too.

Oh and I'm only 22.

Good luck. I quit smoking after 10 years and that was a big enough pain in the balls. Be proud of what you're doing and keep it up.

hey y'all,

thanks for the support.....

i have been going to a LOT of aa mtgs - just finished 90/90 days. i really didn't want to go - i am a retired bartender - did it for 15 years. i always wondered about the guy at the bar who wouldn't/couldn't drink. what the fuck was his story?!? now i'm him.
i fortunately found some like minded junkies/boozers who made me feel as comfortable as possible in the first few weeks. i always knew my work environment was replete with the shit, but turns out it's a good source of recovering addicts as well. we just don't seem to be as loud about our gig as the practicing addicts.

once again, thanks. glad i posted on this board.

wow thats amazing.. i was in rehab for 6 months, went to jail for anohter 7 months because of a dirty bottle. on the day i got out, my friend got me stoned. i still get stoned almost daily, and it sucks. dont let anyone tell you marijuana isnt addictive. i feel your pain... i have a very addictive personality, and its true wat they say in NA/AA. when you quit ur drug of choice, you often find something to replace it. i've chosen weed and now i feel if i quit weed, i might do a stronger/more expensive drug or relapse to my drug of choice...

i have a lot of respect for people who can admit they are/were addicted to a drug, and can testify to how much of a struggle it is to drop that habit.

on the flip side, i have absolutely no respect for people who are obviously addicted to a drug or many, and constantly deny it when they are confronted.. gotta love that cliche'd "i can stop any time i want to.. i just don't want to right now." crystal meth addicts of this type are the worst, i think. i sold it for almost 6 years and met the most hypocritical, selfish, and dishonest people in my life. its almost as hard to actually realize you are addicted and take that first step towards stopping as it is dealing with withdrawals/depression that follows.

anyways.. you are doin great jimk, remember how hellish it was when you had recently stopped and then think of how great it feels to know you are heading in the right direction towards a longer, richer, and more rewarding life. wish ya the best.
