TFP is now different.

Maybe I'm just weird or expecting things to be as they were, but
somehow it is not the same. A different feel. I guess I was just
used to the old TFP, and even though some of the same themes
are being repeated, something just does not feel right.

Am I wrong?

Baricua2782 04-22-2003 11:00 PM

eh yes and no. For me I spent all most all my time in the Members section, so its kinda wierd being in General Discussion and Tilted Nonsense. But its the people who make the place, and I think we are on the right track.

Nad Adam 04-22-2003 11:05 PM

I miss the sandstorm style on the forum, it was easier on my eyes.

Lebell 04-22-2003 11:06 PM

Well,

So far, I am very impressed with the way TFP 4.0 is shaping up. I personally like it.

KillerYoda 04-22-2003 11:07 PM

The fonts for the logos and stuff seem to have a real retro feel to them. Kind of like being in a lounge or something. I like it, though.

juanvaldes 04-22-2003 11:08 PM

Give it time. Let folks get back into it, and stuff will settle down. Members will be reopened and I'm sure hal will bring back the other color styles.

Aye although this green is not THAT bad (is it differn't then the standard for TFP 3.0? I forget ) I still prefer the sand storm

Ghost Bladder 04-22-2003 11:18 PM

Of course it feels different - 50,000,000 threads of boobies have gone AWOL ;)

rogue49 04-22-2003 11:27 PM

As Juan said above, give it time.

Things are being set in place as we speak.
We are lucky Hal and others were able to rebuild this as quick as they did.
There are many details to take care of.

Please be patient, and enjoy.:)

yes, the old default was more black.

BBtB 04-22-2003 11:37 PM

I thought so. I like this one alot more. Easier to read.

nightmare 04-23-2003 12:24 AM

the tf is what the members make it... GREAT!!

World's King 04-23-2003 12:56 AM

It's the current lack of Avatars.

It'll be it's colorful self soon.

04-23-2003 02:51 AM

for some reason i liked the old design better...

Jesus Pimp 04-23-2003 03:04 AM

Feels the same to me plus we got AB passwords back! :D

ratbastid 04-23-2003 03:31 AM

It's the people that make the place--and we've shucked THOUSANDS of leeches. Maybe that's what feels different? :D

GoldenOuroboros 04-23-2003 03:34 AM

It's abit like when one of your best mates gets a new hair cut and dye.. you go.. 'er.. yeah it looks cool' But you get used to it and he/she is still ya best mate anyways so who cares what they look right aye :D

hehe, that's funny Golden -- don't know if it necessarily applies to the new TFP, but it's so true about new haircuts! cheers ;)

alpha phi 04-23-2003 03:49 AM

tfp does feel a bit different.............a few people are still missing........a few people have resolved to change their ways, and grow into new people...........some still grieve for 3.0..........some praise the rebirth as 4.0.........change is scary.........change is good.......tfp changes each day, and with every new member..........this is one reason why tfp is so wonderful.......I do miss the old dark blue default theme.........this new color is growing on me, in a week I might just like it more

ARTelevision 04-23-2003 04:00 AM

obviously it's different.

as for quality, that is a work in progress.

the content contributed by members is the most apparent signifier of site quality.

we have some work to do. isn't that great?

Radish 04-23-2003 04:33 AM

As a newbie, I'd like to thank all the brains behind the TFP for their efforts - I only visited vs 3.0 briefly... but I'm liking the place and the people....

I look forward to the further developments and appreciate all the effort!

laconic1 04-23-2003 05:37 AM

It does feel a bit different. Probably because people are missing avatars and custom titles, but those are slowly starting to come back, and the reduced weight of trimming tens of thousands of lurkers helps too.

troit 04-23-2003 05:58 AM

Same thing happened during the transition from TFP v.2 to TFP v.3. Before you know it we'll all have our custom titles and avatars again and things will be better than they were before. I think this is true because when the rebirth of v.3 occurred it took a while for members to sign back up -- I mean I was the 58 member and I resigned up two days after. This time I signed up Saturday AM, probably 16 hours after the site came back on board, and I'm member 1750. The TFP has certainly evolved over the past year and I'm looking forward to seeing where it will be at this time next year....

G_Whiz 04-23-2003 06:02 AM

Actually, there are three things I miss.

1) There are so few avatars (that will change with time)
2) I would like the sandstorm style back (that could change too)
3) My old username (Oh well, get over it)

Other than that, I'm really glad that TFP is back.

I'm just happy it's back. I think it's great that we're all on the same field. A lot of the schlock is gone. The classic boobies threads that we all loved are already back. New threads are started by the minute. The TFP community is back and will be better than ever.

yournamehere 04-23-2003 06:42 AM

The TFP is ultimately what we make it - and it's a lot more than just how it looks on our monitors. Other than not being able to read Ashton's red text, it looks fine to me (and that's not new). Of course it's different - so is a new pair of shoes - that won't stop me from buying more. Enjoy and contribute!

Daval 04-23-2003 06:49 AM

I think its shaping up quickly to be what it was

MikeyChalupa 04-24-2003 06:31 AM

It's more or less the same amount of difference.

LD and AON still aren't here. There is a void in the force. I can feel it.

Yeah - where the hell is LD?

onodrim 04-24-2003 09:00 AM

I agree that it feels different, but not in a bad way. Its a community thats always evolving, and this is just another phase. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the fun. :)

JoeyB 04-24-2003 09:06 AM

Nothing ever stays the same forever. Even without a crash, some new people would have joined and some veterans would have parted.

I think any of the current changes will seem less drastic over time. I do miss avatars and custom titles, but the heart of TFP is still the same.

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to bring it back.

kairaan 04-24-2003 09:55 AM

I miss the black and green theme that no one seemed to use but me...

However, I realized something - I can have a huge post per day count now, as I deserve. In v 3.0, I lurked for almost a year, so when I did start posting, even at 500 posts I was only counted as posting 1.46 posts a day. Yay for new beginnings, eh?

LordEden 04-24-2003 10:19 AM

Nothing is ever the same, you can't always stop change and progress, we my have lost 3.0 but Hal did a GREAT job on getting 4.0 back up and running in such a short time, Hal you are a saint and a scholar and I commend you!

GuttersnipeXL 04-24-2003 10:37 AM

The big thing I notice is how so many people talk about whats different, where our avatars went, and where our posts went...hey, I'm guilty of it too. One thing I'm noticing that hasn't changed are the great people, great conversations, and generally everyones eagerness to help out other members...just a few of the differences.

Macheath 04-24-2003 03:28 PM

I like being able to revisit the old issues that were raised and then finished with in the v3 General discussion; you can see how peoples views have changed a little bit.

As for the style, I always quite liked the old green anyway.

In time we'll settle back into the community feel, just think of it as breaking in a pair of good quaility leather boots.

WhoaitsZ 04-24-2003 07:36 PM

i've been on the net since 93-94..... and i say accept it. it _a l l_ changes. and it should change, too. for better /and\ worse it must change. it makes the next Great Discovery more special.

I notice it too. We are lacking a few people yet and some of the attitudes that were once so cozy and fuzzy warm have grown a tad cold, only in a couple folks. Hope they snap out of it soon and we get this place built back up to where it was.

I must say though, chat last night was absolutely intriguing and full of great laughs :D

I guarantee, any coldness being felt from mods and admins is due to things such as spamming to get post counts and avatars back. We'd love to be all nice and fun, but when people who should know better are posting 76 times in one day in a single thread in Tilted Nonsense, it tends to get on our nerves, and rightfully so. Hopefully the removal of post counts being listed in each post and the removal of the Top 30 posters page will change some of this. I'd sure like to stop having to chastise people who have been good members in the past for spamming the boards.

duckduck 04-24-2003 09:03 PM

You're livin' in the past, man. You get out what ya put in. The atmosphere is basically the same. Give it a bit more time and you won't even notice the differences (if there are any).
