Welcome to The Smokers Den

Welcome to the Smokers Den

This is a thread for Smokers. about Smokers, by Smokers.

topics include anything having to do with tobacco related products.

This is not a thread for someone to unleash their "Why I Hate Smoking" diatribe. There are plenty of other threads for this.

So Please limit posts to topics like-
What brand I smoke
when I first started
Why...

Laments to the high cost of tobacco and "The Smoker As A Modern Day Pariah"

My only rule (if I may be so bold) is that I ask you, gentle poster, to keep in mind that this thread is Pro- Smoking.

We all know that we should quit.
and we all know that it aint good for us to be inhaling a known
carcinogen. OK?

OK.

NOW
Smoke 'em if you got 'em

crow_daw 07-15-2003 10:35 PM

Well, a friend of mine recently got me smoking. We smoke Marlboro Lights, but I've just quit because of a exercise program I've started, and smoking makes all that running so much harder.

But I'll probably end up starting back, everyone in my whole fam damily smokes.

MacGnG 07-15-2003 10:48 PM

i dont smoke, but being around smokers i have become quite used to second hand smoke
only when i'm around my friends and im drunk do i even consider it. cause cigarettes just make my mouth taste gross and i get dizzy.

but if i did smoke, probly parlament, or anything that was buy 2 get 1 or anything like that, my friends are cheap, so am i :p

BBtB 07-16-2003 12:09 AM

Camel reds.

My pot head friends have got me into rolling my own. Got my first bag of top about 4 days ago. Its nice but not for the weak lunged.

Macheath 07-16-2003 12:56 AM

Anybody smoke a pipe?

I do occasionally and it's always interesting figuring the best way to pack the damn thing. I use erinmore flake tobacco.

Doesn't go right deep down into the lungs like a cigarette.

Don't often smoke cigarettes; aside from the Cuban Cohiba cigarettes I picked up for US $1.25 a pack at Hong Kong airport. Nice.

MacGnG, drunk smoker eh? I can relate.

Gertie 07-16-2003 01:17 AM

I'm a cigar smoker. Boy, if you think it's tough to find a place to smoke a cigarette try a cigar. I smoke in the house in the very late evening after everyone has gone to bed. Also on road trips of an hour or more. I only smoke premium cigars because otherwise, why bother? My favorite for a long time has been Partagas. Lately I've discovered JR Ultimate Cabinet cigars. JR cigars is one of the largest cigar dealers in the States and they have these custom made.

World's King 07-16-2003 03:53 AM

I've been a smoker since I was 11... 11 years later and I still enjoy it. I started smoking Camel Lights moved to Camel Reds then to Lucky Strike non-filtered, now I go back and forth from Camel filters to Lucky filters to Pall Mall filters.

I won't ever quit. Maybe one day if I get sick but I would rather smoke till the day I die

alpha phi 07-16-2003 04:29 AM

I smoked cigarettes for about 12 years mostly Marlboro Reds,
but I always liked anything Camel as a treat.
I quit 3 years ago, too much money...didn't enjoy it any more.
I discovered I still enjoy smokeing, just not cigarettes.
Swisher Sweet cigarellos among others, I stick to the smaller cigars (10 to 15 minute smokes)

I think I'll have one right now!

gov135 07-16-2003 04:34 AM

Plain old Marlboro Lights.

I used to smoke reds, but I find lights is a little easier on the body. Smoked for nine years.

I got a promise to the girlfriend I will quit when she gets pregnant. Which, convieniently for me, is still down the road.

MikeyChalupa 07-16-2003 05:01 AM

I smoked exactly 10 years, and quit around Christmas last year. When I did smoke, I loved Parliaments, but would smoke anything Light. I wasn't very brand loyal when it came to cigarettes, in fact I'd usually ask for "cheap lights" when buying smokes. So that meant lots of Basics and GPC's (Georgia Prison Cigarettes, Generic Putrid Cigarettes, Generally Pretty Crappy, etc.) for me.

Cujo 07-16-2003 05:10 AM

Player's Light.
Smoked em since I was 12.
Have smoked for 23 years, except for a 2 month period in 96 when I was in the hospital.
I smoke because I'm dumb. No other reason for it. They cost to much, are ruining my health and have turned my computer room an ugly shade of yellow.
Can you tell I want to quit?

Sparhawk 07-16-2003 05:36 AM

So this is where the cool kids hang out?

shalafi 07-16-2003 06:39 AM

mmmm i love my stogies. Ive been smoking them for like 10 years. I think i got my first one right after i turned 18. The best part is im still not addicted. If i dont have the extra cash for a few months then i dont smoke and I dont feel myself needing one either. I also smoke a pipe once in a while cause i can get away with smoking that in the house and its too damn hot go go outside for an hour or so for a cigar.

I usually smoke various Dominican brands. Mostly overproduction or a couple inexpensive brands that are good quality. Ive managed to find some in the $30 - $50 a 25 pack range that i actually like better than some of the expensive brands i used to smoke before the damn celebrities made it "cool" and the prices exploded. Although every once in a while ill treat myself to something top shelf. Maybe a cohiba or one of those arturo fuente opus x

In my pipe i usually smoke a custom blend they do at the tobacco shop down the road from me.

Nisses 07-16-2003 06:54 AM

smoking since 14, although not alot. Right now I smoke about 3 maybe 4 cigarettes a day, though that can go up during weekends.

L&M is the brand that's stood by me since day one :)
Tried a bit of Lucky Strike too, but returned rather quickly.

*insert complimentary whine about government here*

What's with abolishing tobacco ads during races like nascar etc. Do they honestly think that those billboards will be pushing kids to smoke? Or could it possibly be the people AT the races that ARE smoking that those kids see? Makes no sense to me. And costs the races alot of money

i would think it better to quit when she decides to try to get pregnant, not once she is.

that way, your sperm would be healthier.

i dunno, have no scientific proof at hand, but it makes logical sense to me.

btw, i smoke (brand - Gauloises Blondes. yea i'm in Europe, so they're not 6$ a pack like they are in the shops in the US...here a 25 cig pack is 4 euro)

and i've always known that i will quit definitely when i decide to try become pregnant...if not before.

hmmm. SiN: you happen to live in the Benelux or France? Cuz I don' t know of any other countries that actually have those ciggies :)

And yea, SiN makes a good point: you should get it all out of your system ahead of time. Takes a while to get out of your system, and it would be a benificial change.

platypus 07-16-2003 07:13 AM

I really enjoy a good cigar. My favorites are Arturo Fuente, Partagas, Punch, and Padron.

I also smoke a pipe every now and then. I actual have a collection of about 30 or so fine pipes. Nothing like sitting back in a big leather chair in my library smoking a good English flake.

KeyserSoze 07-16-2003 07:29 AM

Marlboro Lights, and have been smoking since High School.

I am sick and tired of people coming up to me and saying "you should quit"

I always reply "they're my lungs and It doesn't bother me that you are in idiot"

My friend just brought me back some ciggys from Costa Rica called REX, these damn smokes are actually pretty good. I guess that don't have all the shit that our smokes do in the US.

Smoke em if you got em;)

Hmmmm, can't say anything bad about smoking here.

How about,..... no.

Then maybe....no.

Ah, here we go. I'll say something nice at your funerals!

Geezuz 07-16-2003 07:32 PM

I've smoked for many moons, and I keep trying to quit, but it likes me too much. Even when I get too broke to buy a pack, I will dig through the ashtray for a shameful morsel of a butt to ease the nagging beast!

I thought that was bad until I met my cousins friend at a university, who was notoriously desperate enough to snach and suck on a piss saturated butt out of the urinal!

Hmmm? Time to quit buddy!

laxative 07-16-2003 08:04 PM

smoked for 15 years, and don't particularly enjoy it. i enjoy 'em occasionally - after a meal, while driving, after i get high...

change brands every time i try to quit. smoked reds, camel lights, basic lights, merits, buglers when i was broke, camel filters, pall malls, american spirits. currently smoke winston lights.

i've torn up butts and rolled the black-ass result when desperate. yet to try a piss-soaked urinal find.

Gebbinn 07-16-2003 08:09 PM

Been a smoker for 16 years now, I hate it. I have tried to quit numerous times, but I guess im just lacking in the willpower department. As for what I smoke, hell whatever is cheapest. Being on a budget sucks.. if I had my druthers, it would be marlboro lights, but for now its Kentucky's Best Lights.

Here is a thought for you... Why do people buy kings... I mean the price difference between kings and 100's is nil, the same brand smokes are the same price, so why get less for your money.. if you cant smoke the whole thing, who cares, it didnt cost you any more.... just something I have always wondered

Donkeypuncher 07-16-2003 08:11 PM

Just cigars, here. Mostly VSG, Hoyo de Monterrey, Fuente or a good Cuban when the guy who runs the shop in Santa Monica gets some good stuff in the double-secret drawer. For a good, inexpensive smoke, check out La Unica - decent stuff. The guy who runs the Grand Havana Room on the West Side just startied his own line and they're pretty good - I'll be picking up a box or two soon.

I'm with the previous poster re: frequency - sometimes it's 3 or 4 in a week, sometimes I go a month or two w/o and don't think about it. Depends on 1) how much I'm golfing and 2) how often "the guys" are getting together.

good times...

butthead 07-16-2003 08:19 PM

I smoke Kools. I smoke about 2-3 cigarettes a day. Originally I started with Marlboro reds, but they made my mouth tasting yucky and throat feeling hot and scratchy. Mentholated cigarettes made the back of my throat feel cool when I inhaled, but lately I have been noticing that it no longer feels as cool or tastes as good.

I also don't catch as much of a buzz anymore, so now I cut the filters off my cigs (I noticed changes in taste and feeling before I cut the filters off). Smoking light cigs like Marlboro 100s just gives me a headache, yucky tasting mouth, and maybe some nausea; no buzz at all. I used to love the anxiolytic feelings cigarettes gave me.

I tried some less popular brand of menthol cigs of my cousins and it tasted and felt GREAT! Maybe my Kools were never like that. Is the change in taste related to my smoking, you think?

I've been wanting to try some of the pipe stuff. Any opinions on that? Does the pipe stuff taste any different than popular brand cig tobacco? I heard Camels were good tasting, what do you think?

BTW, this thread rules.

titsmurf 07-16-2003 08:59 PM

I smoke a pack of marlboro reds a day. I guess you could say I smoke out of habit. It gives me something to do when I'm bored. I started at the age of 15, because all the cool people were doing it.

I think for me, the whole addiction thing is mostly a state of mind. To my own amazement, I can go five hours without smoking a cigarette when i have lots of them around, but when I'm out of cigs, it only takes me 5 minutes to start running around the house, looking for that one discarded cigarette that might be lying on the floor somewhere. Also, whenever I see somebody smoking, or even so much as read about somebody smoking in a book, I reach for my lighter.

I often consider quitting, but then I tend to run into a stressfull situation, such as being stuck in a hot car for four hours, and when I get to relax by smoking a cigarette afterwards, me and the nicotine rekindle our friendship and promise never to part ways.

i've never actually compared but i think the filters on 100's is longer as well, making up for much of the size difference. i just hate 100s because i have some kind of bullshit james dean complex that makes me feel like a chick holding a 100. old guys and chicks smoke them.

Started on Marby Reds. Mostly so I could get a break when I Bused at the local resturant. Also that day I was HARD pressed for something to smoke if ya know what I mean. Ended up switching down to Mediums before I quit. Quit about 3.5 years ago. been off completely for 3 years now.

King Titanic 07-16-2003 11:52 PM

I'm kinda different. All through Junior High and through High School, I was very anti smoking. Then I graduated and got a job. Now I'm a pack a day smoker.

du Maurier Light King

And think about this. Right now in Winnipeg, a pack of smokes costs anywhere between $10.25 - $10.75.

Probably both.

I've smoked since i was 13 - so, i'm 23, that's 10 years. I smoke about half a pack a day and that pretty much keeps me happy. I enjoy every single second of smoking. If i didn't, i'd quit.

jwoody 07-17-2003 06:24 AM

My brand is Regal Filter. Smaller than your average smokes (71mm including filter) and only seem to to be available in my native North East England. Everyone I know who has tried them has switched and never looked back.

Least favourites are Marlboros. I just can't get no satisfaction from them.

menthol cigarettes aren't that bad, i've smoked a couple puffs of various menthols. Marlboros menthol lights are not that bad, but they are menthol lights :p

i dont plan on smoking for real ever but peer pressure and various other substances make me take a few drags.

majik_6 07-17-2003 03:19 PM

I've been smoking cigars for around 2 years now (started at 18). Favorite is a Padron 1964 Anniversary, but I end up smoking a lot of Cusano's (the price is quite good). Also a big fan of the Cuban Montecristo #2, finally tried one in the Bahamas... WOW.

I also smoke a pipe. Butz Choquin, beautiful pipe. I prefer Dunhill Nightcap and 965. They've got a good balance, and are some of the few pipe tobaccos strong enough for a cigar smoker.

Occasionally I really enjoy a cigarette. I prefer Dunhills and unfiltered Lucky Strikes, but usually go for Marlboros.

vermin 07-17-2003 06:50 PM

I actually smoked pot for about a year before I tried my first cigarette. My friends from high school came to visit me at school in Madison and I was out of weed and they were smoking Newports. For the first couple of weeks I'd only smoke two cigarettes a day for the buzz. Then I started smoking more often, switched to Newport lights, then Camel filters, then Camel lights. Lately I've been getting Camel Turkish Gold and Turkish Royals cuz they're buy-one-get-one-free (comes out to $2/pack instead of $3.28/pack)

Edit: I just noticed this is my 1000th post. BFD.

Been smokeing for about 7 years now..

smoke anything i can afford..

drawback.. i play alot of real time games.. 1st person shooters mostly.. i tend to forget i got a smoke between my fingers until it burns down.. ouch.. lost my 85% kill ratio on delta force cuz of it..

i do that cuz if i leave them in my lips when i do manage to take it out.. half my lip goes with it..

what i tell all the anti smokers..

Been smoking for 20 yrs. Started at 13 my buddy and I thought we would be cooler if we smoked. Started with Camel filters snuck out of the house in the middle of the night and bought them from a cigarette machine in a back hallway at the Holiday Inn. Now I smoke a pack a day Marlboro Medium in a box, if they are in a soft pack I usually mash them so bad that I end up losing 2-5 per pack so box is the only way to go.

I quit nov. 5 2000 was sitting at Puter on Feb 23 2001 at around midnight and noticed that I had a freshly lit cigarrette in my hand I thought I had grabbed it from my wifes pack. I thought to myself " Hey stupid you quit smoking" I put it out and no sooner than my hand left the ashtray than I reached in my pocket and pulled out a new pack missing 3 and a new lighter. I figured right then that it is stronger than me for now, but one day I will beat it, I hope.

Anyone try those new Eclipse ciggies yet?

QuasiMojo 07-19-2003 11:21 PM

Hey Smokers~
Thanks for responding.

Hey Non-smokers...Thanks for being cool.

I Remember picking up cigarettes for my mother at the corner
ARCO(gasoline)station when I was 10 or 11.
Two Quarters and a nickel would satisfy the machine enough to give me the pack of Salems that my mom required.

I remember being VERY anti-smoking as a kid. begging my mom to quit and even drawing anti-smoking cartoons with political messages to get my point across.

something happened though.

at the age of 13 or 14 I began stealing smokes from my mom and step-father and saying"I'm going for a walk"

Kent- golden lights.......100's

After a while I began

Marlboro(Mayberrys)
(only)
for the longest time.....

*Addiction occurs when you accept a menthol after years of "non-menthol only"behavior;)*

Then Marlboro Light.
(many years go by)

Then Basic Lights

T H E N and up to the present
I started rolling my own(well, injecting my own would be a better description)
I started rolling my own as an answer to the rising cost of killing myself.

1 cigarette machine($4.95)~ pays for itself
carton of 200 filtered tubes--Premier($2.99)
One can of Bali-Shag rolling tobacco($9.95)

I like American Spirit tho

It's not so easy. I only started about a year and the hardest part is packing the pipe. It has to feel like you're drawing a good cigar, but the tightness of the pack is a matter of preference and experience. I still get it wrong part of the time. To start, you want some really experienced smoker (years of experience) to either show you how to pack or pack it for you so you know what it feels like to smoke.

You buy the pipe tobacco; either crumbled up already, sliced, or a solid block (called a plug). The latter two types need to be crumbled up before going into the pipe.

I've heard, when filling a pipe, that the first third is packed relatively loosely; pushed (tamped) down with the little finger; the second third more firmy (index finger) and the final third with the thumb. This is only a rough guide - in the end, it's about experimentation.

Smoking: hold a match (long matches are preferable) just over the bowl and draw air through the pipe. The flame will be sucked down over the leaves and they will begin to ignite. When lit, you'll need to keep pulling air through the pipe to keep it lit. Expect to go through a few matches. If it's packed poorly, don't be afraid to repack and start again. The bowl of the pipe should be quite warm to the touch.

Tobacco should be a little moist. Some smokers even put a small sliver of apple in their tobacco pouch if it's too dry. The more a pipe is used, the better it gets - if you find one you really like, stick with it. They used to have pipe smoking competitions. Competitors got ONE match to light their pipe. When their pipe went out, they lost.

When finished, clear out the bowl. Use pipe cleaners to keep it clean, or you'll be sucking on nicotine.

Don't worry, figuring all this shit out through trial and error is kinda fun.;)

had smoked a few times on and off through highschool, only to try it out, never really enjoyed it.. come 19, started work in a restaurant to supplement my college tuition.. id say roughly 90% of the employees smoked, so i got started on marlboro reds.. never really had the problem some do with harsher cigs. went from that to try out other brands, smoked gauloises, gitanes, dunhill.. now i have the occasional pack of Nat Sherman Havana Ovals, nonfilter, and mostly subsist on American Spirit nonfiltered. really cant stand generic brands, the tobacco is too dried out, the taste is fairly horrible, and the "hit" doesnt seem to pack enough punch for my taste.

have tried quitting a few times now, had a fair amount of success.. oddly enough, liked the taste too much to continue with it. back on american spirits nonfiltered now :)

I've been smoking since sometime in highschool, not sure exactly but I seem to think it was my junior year. that makes it about 12-13 yrs ago. I have changed brands a few times. Used to smoke Winston Select a lot, but I've been smoking Camel Turkish Gold since they came out. I have tried the new Marlborro Blen 27 and they are quite nice as well.

Oh, and a Zippo is the only way to go as far as a lighter is concerned, none of that sulphur tase you get with matches and much more reliable than disposables.

rockzilla 07-22-2003 03:19 PM

I've also taken to rolling my own, I find I spend about half the money I normally would, and I smoke a fair bit less than when I was buying packs, I guess because I have to 'work' at making smokes.

My lighter was a gift from some employees when I managed a production cell at JDS Uniphase. It's a silver Zippo with "CSN Death Squad" engraved on it, stemming from a joke I made about forcing everyone in our cell (named CSN), to get a 'Death Squad' tattoo. Apparently, the guy at the engraving booth was a big metalhead and was so excited that he got to engrave 'Death' on something that he carved a small design on the back of the lighter for free. It's one of the few things I own with a cool story behind it.

Camel Lights here. I started in college, vowing that I would quit when I graduated. Fortunately, I dropped out, so I haven't technically broken my vow.

Bidis kick ass too.

I've been wondering for a long time, are Bidis worse for you than cigarettes? I've heard they're worse, but I don't understand how they could be since they have so much less tobacco. Anybody know?

I'm a pipe smoker. About once a month. I've got 5 pipes, and am always on the lookout for more. They are great collector items, and look very nice on display. And you always have the option of what kind of tobacco to smoke. It's an endless choice - the quest for the best pipe tobacco.

johnnymysto 07-24-2003 04:42 AM

Tip for pipe smokers: just enjoy it. I used to get so frustrated at packing the pipe. It would go out, I'd relight, it'd go out again, etc. I thought, how the crap do you do this???!!! But, learn the 3-layer method like Macheath described and then just relax. If it goes out, relight. No problem. A pipe is supposed to be smoked slowly and enjoyed. Relighting and retamping is (usually) inevitable. I know this guy who's been smoking one for a long time. He packs his tobacco with his index finger WHILE HE SMOKES! Cool.

R-Dubb604 07-24-2003 08:56 PM

i smoke players light cigs, have smoked for 4 years, i kinda want to quit because of health reasons and the outrageous price we pay for a pack in british columbia ($7.50-$9.50), but i enjoy them too much, and i am finding it hard to get around to try and quit

aedenji 07-24-2003 10:35 PM

I smoke camel red lights.

Aren't those things prone to set your pocket on fire? What if your key or a coin breaks the beam?

Pocket fires are bad. I know from experience.

I've been smoking a pipe for about 8 months now. Never smoked anything else. I just have a modest little corncob pipe, got it for 4 bucks. This is the best thing about pipe smoking - it costs me about 2 dollars a week. I usually buy Captain Black royal, white or black. 6 dollars a pouch. Pouches usually last me between 3 and 5 weeks, depending on how much I smoke. Filters are 2 dollars for three boxes of 20, each filter lasting for about 5 smokes. Not only that, but specialty tobacco is incredibly cheap, too. 8 dollars a bag for Frog, Virginian Vine and Louisiana Bayoo tobaccos. Most I've seen it is at 15 dollars for a pouch, and even that's gads cheaper than cigarettes. Not to say cigs are bad, they're just not my thing, and pipes are just that much cheaper. I love smoking my pipe. I smoke it for the same reason I drink: it just tastes so damn good. I make it a point to not smoke when I'm stressed, and I don't know what a nicotine rush is. Don't care, either. I just sit on my porch for about half an hour each night and puff away. I love my pipe.

jbrooks544 09-02-2003 07:00 AM

I was smoking Merit for years and years and then they switched to this kind of paper that will go out if you leave the sig just sitting there - supposedly to prevent fires, etc. They really sucked after they changed to this paper and I switched to Marby lights - but those aren't ver smooth. I heard that my state was going to requre these new papers on all smokes soon - they taste yucky

insect2003 09-02-2003 11:09 PM

smoking is bad for you, yet i still do it

bulakbol master 09-02-2003 11:44 PM

I smoke winston lights: cheap and they do the trick.

I'm glad I live in a country where people don't care if you smoke or not. There are cigarette vendors on every corner, and you can buy BY THE STICK! :D It's not unusual to see every single attendant at local gigs light up.

Quietus 09-03-2003 12:50 AM

I've been smoking cigars for about a year now. Granted, I've only been over 18 for a little more than a year. I hate the smell of cigarette smoke and don't particularly enjoy smoking them, but I love my occasional cigars. I typically smoke Arturo Fuente Curly Head Deluxe cigars, a really good smoke for about $3 each. My lighter:
http://www.colibri.com/catalog/images/QTR-7610's.jpg
I have the red one. It's a good, reliable, fairly inexpensive ($30) Colibri jet lighter. Granted, there's no punch cutter on it, but I prefer cutting it with a guillotine cutter anyway. Punch cutters always seem to crush the end in when I use them, but maybe I'm just no good at it.

A. Rothschild 09-03-2003 04:05 AM

I usually smoke red North State. Marlboro can go, if there's no other choice. I used to smoke a little pibe once, but back then I often had a little of the magic tobacco in it.. :/ I'm off that hook now, though. At special occasions I tend to buy myself a good cigar. It stinks but tastes good... especially with a good whiskey. :)

348Dav 09-20-2003 08:42 PM

Ok I've smoked pot twice now, but I'm not getting really stoned because I i'm not inhaling right.

How do you inhale smoke into your lungs, and how do I know i'm doing it right?

Heh its really not too hard to do... Here's what I used to do...

(out of a pipe) Load up a good bowl, light the lighter, put it upside down, light the weed/bowl and suck in.. as soon as you start tasting that nasty lighter fluid gas taste pull the lighter away, that stuff is nasty. Get your mouth 3/4 of the way full of smoke then just breathe in as much air as you possibly can and hold it there for 4 or 5 seconds. If you have some really high grade shit 4 or so really good hits will give you a nice little high. I found once your really pretty high, just smoking more doesnt have much effect, you waste your weed in a sense, no need to just keep wasting more.

But I was just like you the first few times I smoked.. I bearly got high.. i could feel it but bearly. One day I just decided to suck that shit all the way down and man what a great feeling it was.

Have a good time smoking and be safe.. don't go out driving.. just chill at home with some soda/snacks w/ some friends and you'll be cool.

Smoker in denial

I am 24, started smoking at 13. 11 years I have smoked and it is a characteristic I guess. It goes with who I am, ahhhhh nicotine.

I just tried a cigar by a company called drew estates, the brand was acid- it was the one they call blondie- best cigar I have ever smoked- cool ass aromatic- by that I mean that the smoke somehow manages to smell good and it tastes great... gotta get more....

arcane 09-23-2003 06:15 PM

i smoke camel lights...and when i can find them the camel exotic blend cremas

mmmmm they taste good

maddemon802 10-19-2003 02:35 PM

Fire-I tried one of the Drew estates cigars, one of the "naturals" types, about coffe break size...was one of the worst I've ever had! Guess I'll have to go back and try another type...my local tobacconist keeps pushing them as the best for the buck...
For all the roll-your-own, pipe and cigar smokers, check out this site- www.gatlinburlier.com I visited this place while on vacation and left a pipe smoker (with two A. Fuente opus X! also...what a great smoke). Anyway click on there link about the great tobacco coverup...some interesting data from the surgeon general that is not widely publicized ( and is positive news to certain types of smokers) Their tobacco (pipe and chew) selection is wonderful, my mission for the last few months has been to try everything they have.
On the pipe smoking technique....I find that a few tamps with a tool (or a spent 44 mag case) while smoking keeps her nice and even...rarely have to relight. If you're still having trouble try smoking some half bowls...I found that this helped at first. For more info...visit pipes.org
Smoke On!

mydragonfido 10-20-2003 01:25 AM

I love a good cigar occasionally but I usuall smoke full flavor non methol cheapest brand I can get!! Used to be a die hard marlboro fan until the prices skyrocked!!

majik_6 10-30-2003 12:16 AM

Hmm, my smoking has increased quite a bit since I first posted here. I'm up to at least a pack a day, usually Camel Lights, Wides or Reds (in that order) although right now I have a pack of Dunhill International Lights and some kinda Nat Shermans. My cigar smoking has gone up too!

But strangely, I can't say that I mind!

Painted 12-05-2004 01:35 AM

I smoke Marlboro Reds, about half a pack a day. I also enjoy a Black & Mild while talking to the hot girl up the road, who is also a Marlboro Reds smoker.

I smoked for a year in high school then I quit. But after a few years without smoking, I started again. I enjoy it, and I know it's gonna kill me.

Rdr4evr 12-05-2004 01:47 AM

I smoked Marlboro lights for a good 5 years (from age 17-22) but "quit" a few months ago.....I put that in quotes because I still occasionally smoke. By occasionally, I mean maybe 1-3 a week if I had a long day at work or school and just feel like a smoke at the end of the day. When I was a smoker, I didn't smoke much either, maybe a pack every 2 days, a pack a day on the weekend........I do miss it sometimes, actually, I would like to have one right now, but unfortunately I can not.

flstf 12-05-2004 04:23 AM

I've been smoking for about 40 years now. Started out with Pall Mall and Lucky Strikes and Camel non filter because those were the cool ones back then. Ended up with Kools because I could filch them from my father and got used to the menthol.

I remember when I was first dating my wife and we hugged for the first time. She said" mmmm, I love a man who smells of tobacco", gotta love her. I think they used to even sell an aftershave back then that smelled like tobacco.

I think there are people out there that have sensitive immune systems or whatever and smoke really bothers them both socially and medically so us smokers should be sensitive to them. All the men in my family were big drinkers and smokers and seemed to live forever, LOL.
