Things you can't (or don't want to) explain

Reading some of the threads that have popped up recently, childhood fears, strange things you've seen and others. It brought to mind some of the bizarre and unexplainable experiences I've had in my wanderings.

The Gypsy part of my name comes from my drive to keep moving, like I'm haunted by a restless soul. In 42 years I've lived in 50 places and more than a dozen states. L.A. to Philly, Bellingham, WA to Iatt Lake, Louisiana. Utah, Colorado, New York, DC, Florida, to name a few.

Louisiana and Utah seem to have an abundance of strange. I can't begin to relate the strange sounds and smells I've experienced in the swamps in North Central Louisiana, but I'm half convinced there's some sort of time machine constantly running in that state.

My brother and I spent most nights fishing when we lived down there. The strange sounds and Moccasins keep you on your toes, gators not so much. Never saw one in the year I was there. But the strangest thing was the loss of time. It's not unusual to loose track of time when fishing, but this was just too consistent and eerie.

Normally we'd hit a lake around 10p and fish aggressively for a hour or so. Then set up some rod holders and relax when the bite would die down, usually around 11-11:30. That's when time would just seem to go away. Next thing we knew it would be 3a. Yeah, I can accept time just sliding by when you're not paying attention or doing something, but this was very consistent and we both noticed it. It was almost always 3 hours, nightly over several months. We finally just decided to write it off as Alien abduction (sans the anal probing) and accepted it. Just weird.

When we were kids growing up in Utah we would drive up to mountain lakes and fish when our parents got home from work during the season. A couple of the lakes were off the road and would take a mile or two hike to get too. One we frequented, Red Lake, was about 2 miles off of a dirt road that came half way up the mountain. We were a good 5 miles from anything when walking into this lake. We always heard wood knocking, like someone hitting a tree with a bat when we were hiking in and out of the lake. The first few time we noticed it, thought it was odd and figured it was just a goat or maybe a rock tumbling down the hillside hitting a log. There were never any comments about it, but I think it made us all uneasy. It always sent a chill up my spine and I suspect it did them as well, because we'd always pick up the pace after hearing a wood knock. Once in a while we would find a log or boulder in the path on the way back (which was usually nearing dark and by finding I mean whoever was in the lead tripping over it) that hadn't been there on the way up. All little things we just tried to ignore in favor of our favorite fishing hole.

Just recently I stumbled on a site with recordings and descriptions that are eerily similar to what we experienced. I wonder if we would have still fished there if we had related them to something like this at the time.

What kind of weird experiences have you had. I have many more, but I don't want to write a novel here.

My friend Mike would spend the night sometimes when I was a kid, and we'd do the usual nerdy stuff: Play video games until the wee hours of the morn. One such night something very strange happened, sometime around 2:00AM.

We'd just finished our last round of Halo and had turned the T.V. off and made the couch into a bed. Immediately after we settled in, there seemed to be an unnatural hush throughout the house, and we both experienced a very acute sense of unease. I felt chilled even though the house was at 75 degrees. Neither of us looked at each other or spoke aloud, though I could tell, looking into the reflection from the blank T.V., that Mike was just as upset as I. We stayed that way, watching the T.V. and glancing down the hallway, for a good 10 minutes. The feeling very abruptly lifted, and I realized that I'd been breathing shallowly the whole time, as I let in a huge breath of relief. I looked at Mike, and he just nodded.

I have other stories also, but I'll let some more people contribute

I see white lights everywhere (imagine a shooting star in the daylight, but just as bright as it'd be during the night). Had my eyes checked out twice, nada, nothing wrong with them. Also saw a blue orb once.

Grace told me to go do beauty things. I was under the impression that the most beautiful things I had ever done were in her presence, & vice versa.

Sometimes the cattle aren't asleep. When we couldn't tip them over, we generally took to our heels. I don't think that qualifies as mysterious...

I can't explain sunsets or clouds. I've never encountered a ghost. My feet hurt when I see the ground a long ways down. None of these things comprise what you wanted, OP.
...I wonder why I still feel justified posting.

Sounds like a retina detaching. Who checked it out, an optometrist or an opthamologist? It should be the latter for a case like this.

At Flagler College, I picked up a presence. It went with me for a few years after I graduated. My alarm clock would turn off when classes were cancelled, someone sat on my bed in the middle of the night, several roommates also had something touch them or sit on their beds at night. My cat used to yammer on talking to whomever it was and rub against its legs... you could actually see the fur indent just like the edge of the bed would do. Doesn't happen any more, so I don't think about it much.

I don't want to understand the healing powers of pho or why a grilled cheese-and-ham sandwich with pickle slices, dipped in yellow mustard tastes better than a filet sometimes.

The answer is in the last verse (admittedly, it's hard to keep attention for a 12 minute pop song):

Girl : I know the territory - I've been around,
It'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down,
And sooner or later you'll be screwing around.

Boy : I won't do that!
I won't do that!

Hotmnkyluv 01-05-2011 06:59 PM

The answer is throughout the whole song...
First verse : won't forget the way you feel
Second verse : won't forgive myself if we don't go all the way

My grandmother called me at my friends house to say goodbye. I was 12 or 13. I asked her if she was feeling better now and she said she was just fine. THen my parents came over and told me the hospital had called. My grandmother had called after she died. I guess Ma Bell works in heaven....

The 2003 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships were held in Helsinki, Turku and Tampere in Finland from April 26 to May 11.

In the quarterfinals, between Sweden and Finland, the Swedes completed an outstanding comeback, being down 4 goals 5–1 7 minutes into the second period. At that time, Sweden decided to change goalie, from Tommy Salo to Mikael Tellqvist. After the change, the Swedes scored 3 goals in a row in the second period to reduce the lead to 5–4. In the third period, Peter Forsberg scored a notable goal, when he skated from his own half of the rink all the way to Finland's offensive zone, scoring on a wrap around. Per Johan Axelsson scored the game winning goal in the third period to win the game 6–5 for the Swedes.

Still hurts...

Both. Real MDs have checked it out and they see nothing wrong with my eyes or vision (except I need contacts/glasses). These lights are very clear though and not blurry. I thought the same as you at first. Really worried I had some horrible eye problem that'd leave me blind. But years have gone by. Nothing bad has happened. I have no explanation. Not even a spiritual guess.

lol one spiritual person said, "energy" and I'm like that helps so much :shakehead:

Maybe that's what you're seeing.

Do you mean things that look like this?

Then nope.

I see them all the time, they're smaller, more like mini shooting stars. I see them especially in open areas lit by sunlight. Usually I have to concentrate a bit to see em, as they're fairly easy to ignore (they're fairly small) but there are 50-100 in my vision at any one time. Nothing like a hovering straight line. They're much brighter and energetic too.

Occasionally I'll see much more brilliant versions which I can't ignore/see through.

Of course. I have those. Those are quite obvious and very different from what I see.

Think of a shooting star the size of a needle point and as bright as the sun that shoots across your vision the relative size of your pinkie nail when held out at arms length. That's about the closest I can come to describe it. Then imagine dozens.

We watch this program on Animal Planet called "Monsters Inside Me", and they've had episodes where people have had parasites in their bodies that've taken years to start messing their hosts up.

Have you had a CT scan done?

Yes actually. And an MRI.

I do not want addictions explained. I merely want them solved.

The night before my 7th birthday, someone sat on my bed. Down towards my feet. I remember my eyes were closed and I wouldn't open them for the life of me. I was pretty scared. I ended up drifting off to sleep.

The next morning, I wake up all excited since I was turning 7 and I was having a party that day. Mom was sitting in the recliner weeping and my Dad was on the couch. He says, "your Grandfather died last night." I was like, "Oh," and sat down on the couch. My Grandfather came to say goodbye basically. When I read your post, I thought it was super cool as I've never had anyone tell me they've experienced someone sitting on their bed in this manner. Glad I'm not alone.

I'm flakey like this - that energy can be seen in many forms. However I think you have to believe it in order to see it. You know, like the Tooth Fairy and such.

Oh at this point I believe its some kind of energy. I've been doing energy work since I was 16 (26 now). I just don't know what it means, what kind it is, what I might be able to do with it, etc.
