30 in 30
In the spirit of NaNoWriMo, I thought of a simple challenge. Today at lunch I joined a group to try to write for the month of November. I committed to doing it every day at work for the entire month, in hopes of getting "the goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30."
It's a simple challenge that I offer you. Can you post 30 threads in 30 days? Pick any topic, pick any subject. Post a new discussion thread every day for 30 days. Now you may already be wondering, "What if I post something someone already posted? I don't want to look like an idiot!" The simple answer would be to use the search button before you post, but life moves fast, I move faster. If you can't do that, no big deal, we can just merge the threads together and be on the way to continuing the conversation/discussion. Now you may now be wondering, "What?!?!? 30 days? That's too hard!!!" It may be hard, but that's why it's a challenge. It really isn't that hard. It only is 1 new discussion a day. Don't worry about the other 29 days, post the first discussion first. Now you may be wondering, "But people don't respond to my threads..." You're right, that happens sometimes. It's not much different when you are sitting chatting with your friends and you bring up a topic and it doesn't turn into much and someone starts talking about something else, a totally different topic. You don't get all sullen and stop talking to your friends because they didn't like the conversation you tried to bring up do you? (don't answer that...) Now you may be wondering, "What if I don't post it in the right forum?" Well that's why we have staff to help us organize stuff. We'll help you along and give you pointers to better place things if we think it may get more traffic or attention in a different forum than you originally posted. Now you may be wondering, "I can't seem to write an OP." Well, we can help you there. Post one anyways, and if it needs help to get the discussion better focused we'll try to help you. It may mean that we'll have to lock the thread so that the discussion doesn't start until you've gotten your edits done. It's okay, it doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to exist. Now you may be wondering, "But what if I don't have a witty title..." Well, that's where staff can also help. Sometimes titling something ambigious may seem like it's enticing and intriguing, but with all the stuff to click on these days not to mention getting rick rolled people are a bit more reluctant to click on something that doesn't explain itself well. Make a title that helps people understand what you want to discuss. Now for those of you who can't seem to bring themselves to post a new thread... I offer you a similar challenge. Respond to these new threads, respond to at least 1 every day for 30 days. The idea here is not much different than the other discussion thread I posted, it generated a lot of discussion, I believe that this would do the same. Now those of you responding to threads may think, "But we've already discussed this before..." "I"ve already said my opinion on this topic..." Well that's true, but when you're at a party and someone brings up a subject you talked about earlier and they weren't present you don't just say, "We already discussed that last year." "I already talked about that earlier and I don't want to say it again." No if he/she is hot or interesting, you're going to engage that conversation again. tl;dr I challenge you to post 30 new threads in 30 days. That is 1 thread a day for 30 days. If you can't do that, respond to a thread every day for 30 days. Who's with me? /signed |
I will give it my best shot cyn, if not creating threads, then at least responding.

I would say that 30 lurkers need to post 1 thing by Nov 30th.
On a side note, I'm not sure I could read 175 pages in 25 days, let alone write that many. |
Well 29 more replies to go.
But what about my Shabbos nap? |
I'm someone who knows that I like hearing myself speak, so I don't know that I'd have much difficulty with this. I've deliberately avoided it in the past to avoid swamping TFP with my wisdom. But since you egged me on, now I have to..
You made this bed, now lie in it! /signed |
Been reintegrating with the world for the past week since election day. Just means I've got some catching up to do :)

does the titty board count ?

Bobby... the Titty Board does not count for this as the hope is to enourage discussion threads :)
|
I will try... but I don't get on the computer much... Time to write some new poems I guess :)
