Happy Sweetest Day!

So, apparently the third Saturday in October is a big holiday in the Midwest. It's a day akin to Valentine's Day when wives and girlfriends are supposed to shower the men they love with bacon, guns, motorcycles and candies. What are you doing to celebrate this holiday?

I'm giving him a card saying I love him and apologizing for not getting him a revolver for this crazy obscure holiday. I'm considering maple bacon and pancakes for breakfast.

Sonuvabitch. And here I am without a female to spoil me rotten.

I've already got a motorcycle but I'll gladly accept new guns.

Don't really want any bacon or candy, so you can give that to Baraka.

Who are you and what are you doing on TFP?

I'm hurt. I more than compensate for my lack of bacon love by posting thousands of retarded comments and starting threads nobody replies to for years.

...

I realize this is crude and a total thread jack, but let's be honest here:

Really, this holiday is completely misguided. If you based it on the desires of partner-occupied TFP men it'd be called "Beer and Anal Day."

I've never heard of such a day. Father's Day is the closest I can think of.

P9 - I like your suggestion, but find the use of "Anal" may cause Hallmark trouble making a card. How about we call it "Beer And Rear Day"?

Surely Fathers Day is the total opposite of P9's suggestion?

I'd rather have the film Canadian Bacon starring John Candy on DVD. Does that count?

You will take the flesh of the swine and you will like it!

You can weave it into Conan meat sash if you so desire.

...

I love John Candy. One of my favorite actors of all time.

Who's Harry Crumb? and Uncle Buck are classics.

...wait, what? As usual, I got all caught up in booze and sodomy talk and totally skipped the cool part.

So, pray tell... what kind of firearm were you going to purchase for your dude? Please say a Taurus Judge.

Yeah, my husband might only go for the candy. No bacon, because he's a vegetarian. No motorcycle, because he's just not interested (parents got in a bad motorcycle accident when he was a kid). No guns, because he doesn't feel the need to own one (we live in the safest town for its size in the U.S., and his uncle's a collector--if he wants to shoot, he can shoot).

I'd make him some candy, but our kitchen is kind of out of service at the moment. I've been meaning to try my hand at making buckeyes.

While I was wiping bacon grease off the stove, I was wondering about how nutritious buckeyes can be. In fact, you want some candy?

is the official name of the holiday 'Sweetest Day'? that'd be awesome because yesterday was our 11th month together and i believe that entitles me to some thick and/or crispy delicious bacon

I have hated Sweetest Day for years. (I live in ohio) I find it a ludicrous capitalistic card manufacturer manipulation. I rarely like greeting cards to begin with. My partners dont need to jump thru paper rack hoops to prove to me that I am loved. I either feel tended to or not. A $2 card wont prove it. I bellered loudly this past Sweetest Day to ignore the holiday...

however...having read this thread, and hearing some of the "gift giving" being offered, I have rethought my idea of Sweetest Day..forever more it shall be renicknamed as Anal Day and we shall celebrate wonderfully this holiday...

laughing softly...thank you all so very much...
