Links got me in TROUBLE!!!

So I was using one of the passwords from the list on here and when I clicked on "movies" at one of the sites it said: " You are unauthorized, legal action may be used" and then is said my IP address! I then exited quickly. What do you make of this, I don't want my ISP notified and I want to know if this is probably just to scare me or what? I am sure some of you have seen this before.. Please let me know what I should do. Thanks

lt1tech 04-21-2003 05:59 PM

What can I expect from this? I am an active TFP member guys, come on and help me out. Thanks

mokle 04-21-2003 06:00 PM

Chances are nothing will happen to you. :)

zmbabwe 04-21-2003 06:05 PM

I've never seen that before. But I doubt anything'll happen to you. Just stay off the passwords for a few days.

Elmo123abc 04-21-2003 06:05 PM

im 100% shure there not gona waste there time and do any thing bout it they have more important things to do than tinker with shit like that,,,,, "fora geta bouta itta" lol

esteban 04-21-2003 06:08 PM

Nothing ever happened to me, and believe me I was a power user in my days

lt1tech 04-21-2003 06:09 PM

Kool, thanks bros. Just got me worried, my ISP is owned by my father in law LOL and after all, what kind of guys look at porn. LOL

If they do notify the ISP, maybe I can just buy a subscription to the site and that might just be kickass!

lt1tech 04-21-2003 06:19 PM

esteban, whats up

esteban, did you ever get the notification that "legal action may be taken" and then see your IP number show up?

tarheelz 04-21-2003 06:21 PM

That used to be common. Nobody believed it so sites quit that. Instead they just refer you to another location hoping you might click and/or buy.

lt1tech 04-21-2003 06:26 PM

How cruel, wonder why some sites are still pulling that bs. I dont think it's very nice. It was on a site link that was just posted by Candyman and the site was one of the teen sites but don't remember which one.

lt1tech 04-21-2003 06:34 PM

Just to make it clear, I am NOT knocking Candyman, he is an awesome asset to the board.

Sun Tzu 04-21-2003 06:49 PM

Nothing will become of it. Its one of the few methods webmasters get any satisfaction for someone that attempts to bypass paying them. Its a simple javascript line of code. Believe me unless your using a proxy everybody knows your ip

sidsid 04-22-2003 03:50 AM

My guess is that nothing will happen

candyman 04-22-2003 04:12 AM

LOL! I wish I had a dime for everytime I saw that! BELIEVE ME, they will not do a damn thing. They do it to scare you. Which, by this thread, is exactly what they did... RELAX.

candyman

Goliath 04-22-2003 08:18 AM

Jupz, I have that all the time! :D
If they would take serieus action, I'd have been banned for life from the internet! lol

Don't worry bro ;)

godsmack 04-22-2003 08:25 AM

Candyman IS the fucking MAN!!!!!!!!!

Willowsr 04-22-2003 08:51 AM

Not to worry... I've seen it many times myself... did 'freak' me for a minute though so I understand your concern.... *smile*

gov135 04-22-2003 09:22 AM

lt1tech, grab $10,000 and head for the Mexican border. If you get caught, you can just deny it later. Oh, yeah, dye your hair.

Just kidding, you'll be fine. And your father-in-law owns your ISP? Wow. That's different. Juno is only 9.95 a month... just kidding.

K-Billy 04-22-2003 09:39 AM

I've seen the part about being unauthorized, but not legal action and ip address. Probably means nothing.

asdf1001 04-22-2003 09:45 AM

I've even seen some that read your hard drive and show all your files trying to scare you into buying software from them ...

dr_lubin 04-22-2003 11:07 AM

you better leave the country man, i've already lost 4 of my closest friends to shit like that...

BrassMonkey 04-22-2003 11:24 AM

Hello? Can anybody hear me? Guards? Warden?

I can't believe I got life for using passwords....damn!

My ISP threw the book at me!!!

lol

Siphen69 04-22-2003 12:07 PM

expect the FBI at your door in probally 1 week

onixn 04-22-2003 12:19 PM

THEY'RE RIGHT BEHIND YOU!

zf0enix 04-22-2003 07:58 PM

Candyman is a god among insects. I think I'd be more worried about my using my father-in-law's ISP to surf for pr0n. Can't he just use IP addresses to see where lt1tech spends his free time?

MSD 04-23-2003 07:01 AM

I have a tally file for the number of times I've seen that message. The first was in Dec. 1996, and I've averaged about three a month since then. My ISP doesn't give a shit what I do unless it's child porn or d/ling at 5000k/s

troit 04-23-2003 07:08 AM

Forget about it... I'm sure they don't have the time or resources to follow up on every shmoe who tries to hack into their website...The website is probably run by some 65 year old guy from his basement.

neoinoakleys 04-23-2003 08:00 AM

So, I am writing you guys from over the mexican border, and I must say it is much nicer down here....all the tequila I can drink and no age restrictions...and let me tell you spring break is fun. I am so glad I got caught for unauthorized password usage, or I might still be in the wild town of Des Moines, Iowa.

Please people don't get caught for this type infringement, it's starting to get crowded down here with all the pervs....:-)

LOL

Just kidding man....ain't nothing going to happen...:-)

Of course you are, at least in their eyes, stealing from the cracked site. So I don't think there is much call on there end for them to be nice.

Liquor Dealer 04-23-2003 08:36 AM

e-mail them back - tell them to kiss your ass and come and get you if they don't like it! You're not in any danger what-so-ever.

lt1tech 04-24-2003 07:10 PM

Bitchin guys. I guess I put this in the wrong folder. Anyway, whoe does'nt look at porn now days, porn keep the net alive. How hard is it for an ISP to see what a user is surfing? I'm cable modem and don't worry too much about it but it is kind of eerie to know that ISPs can see where we are traveling... lol What are your thoughts. Anyway, the porn stays... lol

Johnny Rotten 04-24-2003 07:25 PM

I suppose you could always just play dumb and say it was a link someone sent you, and you had been put under the impression that the link went somewhere else entirely.

Peetster 04-24-2003 07:30 PM

Ignore it. Don't sweat it. It's a simple script they are using. You won't be nailed by your father-in-law.

clavus 04-24-2003 08:55 PM

One more vote for "don't worry about it."

Oilman 04-24-2003 11:16 PM

I would say don't worry bout it, I don't think they can take legal action against you...if your really paranoid though, you probally wanna stealth your ip, it may be a bit late now but better late than never.

Also I recommend that you ditch you history, temp files, temp internet files... if possible use a program like eraser, and do a couple passes, cover your tracks as best you can, I would imagine nothing would happen but a little security would sure be nice.

sixate 04-25-2003 03:39 AM

I would be in jail already if they actually did something about that shit. I've seen it a million times and nothing ever happens.

b1m2x3 04-25-2003 03:50 AM

trust me man... i see that almost every day when i try to get the passfiles and i fuck up.

they dont do anything. :D

Loki 04-25-2003 05:16 AM

lt1tech: heres how, very roughly, and in plain talk, secure HTTP connection works:

Your PC: Hi! Heres my IP Address if you want to talk to me!
Server PC: *check that its not on the banned list, if not on the banned list ->* Hello! Whats your username and Password?
Your PC: Username: Username, Password: Password.
Server PC:*checks login... notes that the login has an hacked flag on it ->* redirects your PC to a webpage with the following on it:

"Hello IP Address, Im gonna ass whoop you!"

Normally, these messages are just in place to scare people who arent too familiar with the way the internet works. Internet laws are odd to begin with anyway, and im not even sure that entering these sites with a cracked password is illegal anyway... but definitely there is nothing they can do about it, unless of course you hacked into thier site and defaced it or something.
