What thread did you NOT start this week?
 

I try starting many threads. I usually end up abandoning them. The reasons range from lost interest to not being about to make my point coherent to just not being able to decide which side of the fence I'm actually on.

I can't be alone, I know others have tried starting threads and never got around to finishing them. Let's hear about your abandoned threads. Oh yeah, you're also giving someone else permission to use that idea as their own thread. :)


So today, I had a nice thread about making advertisers disclose product placements. Ya know, So when you're watching Transformers and the Mountain Dew Machine goes haywire and starts shooting cans at people? It should have said "Advertisement" down at the bottom of the screen. I didn't feel like making the thread readable though so I abandoned it.

I started to write a thread about nationalism's intrusion upon holidays which have little or nothing at all to do with love of country, like Labor Day. I decided it wasn't worth getting into it with the "America, fuck yeah!" crowd.

I started to write a thread about how people feel guilty after objectifying women/someone then this dude called miguel from centerfold made a video about it. Yeah thats right, I just outed myself to being subscribed to the centerfold channel on youtube, deal with it.

Well, I did want to start this thread on how I'm supposed to urinate into these fancy new commercial urinals (such as those found in restaurants) without getting backsplash on either my pants or my shoes.

Where do you aim? The center wall, the bottom flush-ring? I mean... jeez... the ones we've got at school are like ceramic piss-flinging halfpipes. I have to stand far away and walk forward when the stream runs out. Pissing shouldn't be this much work.

What you need to do in order to prevent splashing is have the fluid follow a curve into an area that would block the splashing. For example, in figure A, you would want to urinate downward into either the right or left wall so that the liquid follows the flow between the side wall and the back wall and any extra splashing goes into the catch basin.

Anyway, I almost started a thread about the unwillingness of the White House to utilize the actually massive support for the public option in their fight, but realized I was just buying into the false idea that the Democrats are all interested in the public option.

Most of my abandoned threads involve quirky or interesting items that pop up in my newsfeed. There's no particular reason I don't post them, except that I'm usually doing multiple things at once and often forget to post them until after I've closed them.

I was going to start a collaborative art thread about drawing things with tentacles,
but then I did NOT.

I often start threads, and while I'm typing them, I lose the structure of my thought/argument.
The end product ends up not being shown because it ends up being too unclear, and seems like it would cause more confusion than discussion.

I abort 95% of the threads I think about starting. Lately, I've been abstaining.

I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one who does this. I do it all the time, although I can't think of a particular instance lately.

I was going to start a thread on the Post Secret project, but never got around to it. I was thinking that it might be an interesting thing for us to try someway, somehow...but didn't devote enough time to the logistics of it.

What doesn't make sense to me is why would you take the time to talk about the thread you didn't start and why you didn't start it and not just start it...

This is an important issue.

But it reminded me of an old joke:

Q: What is the scientific name for Nasal Sex?
A: Fuck Nose...

Because it takes a lot less time to mention that you thought about starting a thread than it does to actually put one together, for me anyway. If I go to the trouble of starting a thread around here you can be sure I spent a considerable amount of time thinking about it and then creating the OP beforehand. Which is why I don't create too many threads, lol.

Well, in all honesty, I didn't think the particular subject matter would win me any points with the Powers-Who-Control-Access-To-TFP. Probably more the opposite, I presume.

After a few initial grouchy, cursing posts in my blog, my membership was obviously on tenuous ground around here. Didn't want to cause additional controversy for myself in the backroom....
