FSC Cigarettes
i recently started smoking again (winners never quit) and found out cigarettes are now made with fire retardant paper. the idea behind it is so if you fall asleep in bed, your cigarette doesn't burn all the way down to your mattress and cause fires. if you take too long to smoke, the cigarette goes out, and you have to puff-start it back up (yeah, i just invented that term).
So now, not only do cigarettes kill you, they piss you off while they do it. To make the cigarettes "safe" they add EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) to the paper. Apparently, according to wikipedia, EVA is not normally dangerous but isn't meant for internal consumption and should be: "KEPT AWAY FROM HEAT OR FLAME.". so now smoking is even MORE bad for your health, if that's possible. can you legitimately argue that adding a chemical that is bad for you to something that is already bad for you, is wrong? |
If you were gonna die anyway, might as well be with a bang eh?

Cigarettes already contain acetone, ammonia, arsenic, butane, cadmium, DDT, ethanol, formaldehyde, hexamine, hydrogen cyanide, methanol, naphthalene, nitrobenzine, toluene, and vinyl chloride. This news obviously didn't deter you, and I doubt it will matter to most smokers. In fact, I'd bet that if smoking suddenly caused 1 in 5 partakers to burst into flames, that it still wouldn't cause people to quit. |

i cant be the only smoker here. i wanna know how the other smokers feel about it. |
I have enough cigarettes to last me a lifetime at my rate of 1 / mo, so all mine are pre FSC... but I think it'd piss me off, too, if were buying new ones.
|
I buy Bali Shag and roll my own, since now it's just too expensive to buy cigarettes in NYC, 10 bucks a pack.
My pouch costs 8 and gives me about 50 cigarettes. It's from Denmark, and quite nice. I doubt there's any fire retardant in it, considering it's from Europe. |

Regarding health concerns and what not, you can get cancer from eating lettuce ffs so I'm not too bothered. However, I definitely don't plan on smoking forever. It's dirty and nasty. I mean, strippers don't dance forever. Let me have my time lol. |
I think I am going to get one of those electric cigarettes...
|
I saw those in a gas station. Didn't get to look at them too long though.
|
I smoke and I haven't noticed this; my smokes still burn down to nothing when left unattended I think.
|
The trick is to smoke them all in one drag.

But yes, there was that whole pesticide scare or what not. I'm just insinuating that it seems you can get cancer from anything. |

I'm a smoker, and I find it so annoying when I go to pick up my cigarette and it has went out. I knew they had added something to make it do this, but didn't really know what until now.
But I also just got a prescription for Chantex, and plan on quitting for the umpteenth time shortly. |

I spent 27 years smoking - 5 of them enjoying it; the other 22 trying to quit. |
Yeah, that new paper is pretty fucking bothersome. I constantly have to "puff-start" the fuckers. (well, not anymore. I just quit.)
Plus, it makes the cigarettes taste even more like shit... |
POA stop posting in this thread, posting about cigerettes is just as bad as being around them when you are trying to quit. Got hopes for ya boy.
Maybe it's just me if I leave my cig unsmoked that long I would want it to go out, save it for later. That's what I do with my cigars. I'm a werid smoker tho. |
Dude, I'll sit right next to somebody who's smoking, and be fine. It's a matter of willpower and I've always had a lot of that. I want to quit. If I didn't, I wouldn't be quitting...
I'm not worried about the mental addiction at all. It's the physical addiction that's getting me. I had no idea quitting would actually make me sick... Thanks for the well wishes, though. Anyway, sorry about the threadjack. Carry on. |
POA, the physical addiction will get better in a matter of days, and totally disappear within a week or so. I finally managed to quit the very first time I tried the nicotine patches - it really helps when you're weaned off that poison gradually.
As for the mental addiction, - I always compared the urges to a game of whack-a-mole. You never knew when or where they'd pop up, but if you knocked them out right away, they'd fall back in their hole and leave you alone till the next time. It's been years since I've had even a remote interest in having a cigarette, so know that every day is easier than the day before. /agrees w/POA - threadjack over |
I noticed that last night, but I figured it was just the new cigs. (Camel Crush. Normally, I do No. 9's.) It was vaguely annoying, but nothing major.
Do that many people smoke in bed? Weird. |
I've woken up so many times with a cigarette shaped pile of ashes between my fingers that was caused by the smoke I passed out in the middle of...
It's weird how they always hold shape as long as I'm sleeping. |
