Where do you go for News?
 

I've been shopping around for different news websites recently, and I've found that there is a significant amout of difference in the way a story is told from one to the next. I'm curious where others turn for news. Please share your favorites!

Where do you hear most of your news?

BBC, the atlantic, NY times, the economist...

All online. No TV, radio, etc.

BBC and the economist are specially good for international news. Most of American media is too focused on domestic issues and celebrities.

other than that, its just various television programs.

Two papers are delivered each morning. Also check out other newspaper websits as well as cnn.com and drudge :D

As far as TV, I'll check CNN in the morning and then not so much after that. I prefer CNN's presentation of news over FOX or MSNBC. although I do not care for CNN later in the day. The nework becomes too preachy.

Where do you hear most of your news?
All over the internet. I do MSM sites like BBC and blogs like Huffington.
Do you read it in a printed newspaper?
I read the San Jose Mercury News for years. I discontinued my subscription after the paper was bought from Knight-Ridder. The acquisition was highly unethical and the quality of the paper has gone downhill.
Do you tune in to a particular TV news show?
Democracy Now! Sometimes Olbermann, but mostly just for the diatribes.
Do you listen to the news on the radio?
Yes, I listen to the KPFA Morning Show in the mornings before work.
Maybe you hear all you need from frends?
Nah. I get history from friends, though. Former member Host is a wellspring of information that rivals wikipedia in volume and any major publication on quality.
What are your favorite mainstream news websites?
BBC, Al Jazeera, AP.
What are your favorite alternative news websites?
Huffington, Kos, Democracy Now!, etc.
Do you find any that are particularly good for international news vs domestic news?
BBC is pretty reliable for international as far as MSM outlets go, it's nowhere near as corrupt or partisan as it's American cousins. Deutsche Welle is really good, actually, for international news. I get domestic news from too many places to name just a few as particularly good.

Where do you hear most of your news? I check a lot of different sites--BBC, NYTimes, the Oregonian, and the local newspaper site, and I occasionally watch the local TV news, as well as Countdown with Keith Olbermann. I also listen to NPR/OPB Radio every morning, and to All Things Considered most evenings. Robert Siegel and Michelle Norris have often kept me company while I cook dinner.

Do you read it in a printed newspaper? On Sundays, I get the local paper.

Do you tune in to a particular TV news show? Countdown with Keith Olbermann is not really a TV news show, more commentary, but his stories usually spur me to find out more about issues he brings up during his broadcast.

Do you listen to the news on the radio? Yes. NPR is often my choice when in the car, and it's usually on my home radio too :)

Maybe you hear all you need from friends? No, not really. I prefer to form my own opinion, which means doing my own legwork.

What are your favorite alternative news websites? Probably Huffington

Do you find any that are particularly good for international news vs domestic news? BBC News is obviously a good choice for international news, and the NYTimes often leads me to other international news sites, usually papers in other countries, so I can get a variety of perspectives.

I visit: LewRockwell.com, Ron Paul Wins! | Campaign for Liberty at the Daily Paul | Blog, Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!, The Raw Story | Investigative News and Politics, Ludwig von Mises Institute - Homepage. These are the main sites that I visit and then I cross reference them and study the foundation of what is being put out on wikipedia. I go to these places first and then ill see something on the MSM and notice how they try to "hide" the real reasdons and like to keep the people distracted on little issues and never touch on the real issues

I like to read newspapers. I read 3-4 or more every day. To me there is nothing like the feel of a newspaper. I also like turning each page and finding something I didn't know (you don't know whtat you don't know). The internet has primarily become a search tool for me. It's easy to find something if I know what I'm looking for. Conversly, newspapers are more exploratory; I never know what I'll find and spend a great deal of time browsing the news.

You bring up a great point - the exploratory nature of newspapers. I have never considered this. Thank you for sharing!

Digg, Fark, I usually turn to CNN for breaking news and my local NBC network for local news and weather. I like having a local newspaper handy mostly for the sudoku but it's nice to read an article here and there throughout the day.

BBC and CBC are about as unbiased as you get.

Where do you hear most of your news?
My local NPR station. I also try to watch one of my local news stations on occasion as my beau is a producer there....but his show is on REALLY early!

Only on Sunday...and I only pick that up for the coupons, but I glance over it.

Do you tune in to a particular TV news show?
I get on occasional MSNBC kicks where I can't get enough Olbermann, Matthews, Maddow etc. Usually during Campaign Season.

Do you listen to the news on the radio?
Every day. I'm an NPR junkie. I even get podcasts of my favorite programs (Fresh Air, This American Life) for when I'm not in my car when they're on.

I do get a lot of news from my news junkie friend Blair. And I'm amazed by how many stories I get for the first time on TFP.

Do you find any that are particularly good for international news vs domestic news?
I sometimes like the outside perspective on US politics, whereas I prefer domestic outlets for their coverage of local events/disasters.

I'm pretty terrible about keeping up with the news. I get most of it from osmosis here, another forum or two, and from my dad when I see him (he's a manager at ABC, so he knows pretty much everything about what's going on :P)

I have a newsticker set up in my Firefox window that displays headlines from BBC, Slashdot, CBC, Reuters and Associated Press. I have the option of adding more if I want to, but I find that those sites give me a variety of perspectives and tend to keep me up-to-date on what's going on in the world.

I'm the guy who most of my friends look to as being informed and up-to-date on current events, and I use the internet almost exclusively for news gathering. I'll occasionally glance through the local paper, but other than that have more or less given up on newspapers as a source of information. Interestingly, I have received several telemarketing calls attempting to get me to sign up to newspapers with special promotions. I honestly think that old print newspapers are going extinct, and I see no problem with that; why would I want to read a story in the paper a few days after the fact when I can pull the same information directly from the newswire as it happens?

If I haven't heard/read it, it's news to me.

For that reason, I like to peruse the topics on the front page of Wikipedia.
From there if a link catches my interest, I'll follow it and discover new and interesting things. Which, hopefully has some accuracy in them.

I visit Fark.com daily, a few movie news sites like aintitcool.com - latinoreview.com - chud.com - and superherohype.com.

I watch the local news channels and the West Coast CBS news feed. I believe it's Channel 4 News.
Very rarely I'll watch the BBCA news.

I don't read many newspapers any more.

i don't have a tv so i don't watch news, i don't have a radio so i don't listen to radio unless im in my car which is rarely cause i usually ride a bike. if i'm in a my car i listen to music. i only read the news paper a little bit when there is one at work, and then i only work on the weekends and i read the comics and crosswords and maybe a few stories. im pretty out of touch and ignorant of what is going on in the news. i get my news at the bar and here. i stay pretty uninformed. if the world ended, i would probably be the last person to know about it.

There is no news like gary Gnu, the only unbiased news program!

guardian, ny times, le monde, libération, le monde diplomatique, washington post, financial times.
sometimes bbc and/or al-jazeera.
depending on the issue, ha'aretz.

i pay no attention to american broadcast infotainment outlets unless for whatever reason i find myself interested in how opinion management looks on a particular day.
i used to like npr but got disgusted with it at some point along the line. bbc's world news broadcasts are far better.

i figure television is only ever about itself, so when i watch television i watch bad reality tv shows. i think they're the most accurate form of television. o and sometimes cspan, for the camera feeds.


for music information, i look at a ton of stuff. there's no particular list. i like the wire (uk) and the sound projector.
