Do you use recreational drugs?
And the legal ones count too, including caffeine and alcohol. By recreational I mean, taking it for any other reason besides medicinal. So a glass of wine a day for your health isn't considered recreational in this thread. 1-2 cups of tea or coffee in the morning to wake yourself up isn't recreational. Drinking caffeine at night to stay up and have fun = recreational. Feel free to talk about the illegal variety too, I'd just keep it somewhat vague.
I definitely use alcohol and caffeine recreationally. Usually I find if going to a party I need both to have a good time. Alcohol for the anxiety, and caffeine because I'm a morning person and get tired after 10pm. Occasionally I use the illegal variety as well. Just making sure not to get addicted in anyway. And it depends what's available and what my job situation is (if there's gonna be drug tests.) I'd actually like to smoke more, but usually don't get the chance as most of my friends don't. I recently learned to blow smoke rings, which is awesomeness. It helps a lot for my anxiety too, and I don't really get any negative side effects like paranoia. And I'm guessing its much healthier than drinking. I've also been experimenting with the psychedelic group too. It can be quite disconcerting at times but overall I feel like I've gained a lot of wisdom in their use. I feel much more connected to the world and people around me and I usually come to some epiphany after an episode of their use. I just make sure to space out their use to at least a week between. What's interesting is that each plant only seems to have a certain amount of learning one can gain as a psychonaut. They don't really lose much potency from tolerance, it's more just like each plant has a spiritual lesson to teach. And once that lessons over, its done. So, share your experiences! |

Not exactly.
I drink perhaps 1-2 drinks of alcohol a week, if that. Usually my total is 4-6 per month. I usually have a drink or two with friends to relax, often after a trying ride on one of my horses. Caffeine I don't use recreationally. I drink tea, but always in the morning - I drink tea because I like it, and often choose non-caffeinated varieties. I've never used caffeine to try to stay up later. As for other drugs.. I don't smoke, and I take non-prescription and prescription medications only as directed.

I only drink two or three drinks when out, or even when home, then call it quits. Like rum and coke and the likes.
I do not smoke cigs. I dont like beer anymore since it is very heavy on me. I actually have cut back on all drinks lately. 2 weeks clean of all that and SODA haha. I use to blaze up back when I was a kid. Now I just hit it once if someone has it, but not very often. I have tried extacy when I was a kid, didnt like it so never did it again. all in all, I am a pretty lame "recreational user." haha |

Sure. Drink a beer to relax once or twice a week, go out (or stay in) and drink to intoxication with friends and wife once every month or two.
I'd smoke weed instead but I can't afford a criminal charge or to fail a random drug test at work. The DAY it's legal, I'm buying a good quality vaporizer.

No. I don't use any illegal narcotics, and I don't take legal mind-altering prescription drugs. I only drink now and again, and I don't get drunk.
Still, if marijuana is legalized in California, I'll probably blaze up every month or so. MSD, if we get mj legalized, you're welcome to crash here and smoke some of mine. |

Not anymore. I cut everything out. You name it, coffee, soda, weed, alcohol, cigarettes. I used to do it all, and it made me feel like shit. Now I don't and I feel great. It feels so good to get over the impulse to do those things out of habit. Especially if you were addicted, its much better to get over these things by yourself with no placebo. Feels good man.

i haven't smoked weed in years, but see no reason why it shouldn't be legalized...
that said, i do like my bourbon; and a big, fat cigar or two on the golf course sure tastes good...

I wouldn't consider a cigar a drug. There are no state-altering effects of a cigar that I know of. Cigars are more of a taste type of thing. Certainly recreational though.

I drink about twice a week and consume massive amounts of caffine. I used to smoke a lot of pot but I have essentially quit. If it is offered, I won't refuse but I'm not going to go to the trouble and risk of buying it.
edit, I quit smoking cigarettes a year and a half ago. Last edited by kutulu; 03-03-2009 at 02:04 PM.. |

I don't smoke cigarettes, but I do smoke maybe 3 or 4 cigars per year.
Probably have 1-2 drinks per week. When I have some (irregularly), I spark up maybe 3-4 times a week, until it's gone. That's about it. When I was young-- like high school and college-- I used to shroom and drop acid from time to time, and several times I smoked opium. But that was it, and all that was a long time ago. I don't think I'd do any of those again today. They were fun, but now I feel like I'm done with that. I am a big believer that weed should be legal, and most other drugs should be decriminalized, and all should be regulated and taxed, and the abusers treated as ill, not criminal.

Two large cups of strong coffee in the morning, about 6-7 cigarettes a day, naproxen sodium as needed when my neck and/or back really bothers me.
I quit drinking over 15 months ago because I'm an alcoholic. I avoid drugs for the same reason.

2-5 cups of coffee a day 1-3 drinks a week Other than that, medicinal drugs only, and rarely at that.

I smoke spliffs just about every day when we have it. If we don't have it, oh well.
I don't drink very often, but I enjoy a tasty brew every now and again, and I'd never turn my nose up at a fine Oregon pinot noir. That's about it, really. I drink a lot of coffee, and part of that is recreational, sure. I like the taste of coffee.

6 years ago I would have had a whole list.. but I've been clean for over 5 years now.
I don't do any caffeine The only thing still on my list is alcohol. That's a nightly experience.. I drink too much.. wait.. no.. that's impossible ![]() I quit the "recreational" stuff..because it got to the point where it wasn't recreational anymore.. it stopped being fun at that point. |

Ironically, I've cut out pretty much every legal drug out of my life, except for alcohol. I no longer imbibe caffeine, I've quit smoking cigarettes, pills are a no go, and even if I'm mildly sick I refuse medication.
While I used to be a fan of the yayo and synthetic heroines, I've grown to see it as a colossal waste of time, money, and sinus membranes. I'll smoke weed 'till the day I die though, even if I have to take a break for job drug tests and school from time to time. I've also recently learned just how amazingly fun ecstasy is, so I plan on doing that again in the future, at a pace though (no need to blow my head up just yet). So yea, booze, bud, and the occasional E are all I need :-D. And dude... I'm prepared to start a "Get this man some real weed at real weed prices" movement right now. WHO'S WITH ME?

I'll have a drink or two on Friday or Saturday nights. I don't like getting drunk anymore. The next day isn't worth it.
I don't drink caffeine after noon-ish, so if I'm feeling tired and don't have to get up early, I'll drink espresso. It gives me a better caffeine buzz than red bull/energy drinks and tastes a hell of a lot better.

Alcohol occasionally, a heavy drinking night for me is 4-5 beers. This is usually followed by a few weeks of abstinence (not deliberately, I just get tired of it.)
As for illegal stuff, I tried a couple out several years back, but didn't like it enough to justify the cost/risk.

Let's see, I smoke half a pack a day, drink alcohol whenever I can afford to, or whenever there's a special engagement to do so.
As for the illegal substances, I'll buy coke when I A) Have the money, and B) can actually get it. Right now, I don't have the money, and I don't have a source, so that's why I'm not on it. I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with illegal drug use, obviously, but I don't think it's such a big deal. I mean, I'd rather do coke and prang out, than drink and be beligerent. You don't know how many fights I've gotten into while drunk, compared to how docile I am when I'm on coke. Another thing, I'm pretty responsible about it. I mean, I'm not sucking cock just for a bump, and I never let myself get to that point. Yeah, I fiend, but I deal with it. If I don't have the money to spare, then I don't buy it.

Yeah, I find it ironic how wide spread alcohol consumption is, even for people who quit their other vices usually still drink. I've seen it do more damage altogether than most illegal drugs and yet the wide spread conception is that alcohol is fine but OMFG don't take a hit from a bong!
I had a step dad who was a firefighter and an uncle who is a LEO, I used to go on ride alongs when I was younger. I saw waaaay more shit go down than weed or even coke has done to people. And saw maybe one bad incident with heroin. Those bad cases of addiction with illegal drugs you hear about are a lot rarer than we perceive them to be. It's just like anything else, use responsibly and you'll be fine. Don't fear all that shit from the war on drugs propaganda. |

It's all about moderation. I've even known a few people who genuinely did use heroin only once or twice a month, although they snorted it instead of mainlining it (which is generally the point of no return for addiction.) Plus, things like MDMA and LSD have severely diminishing returns, so you have to pace it and space out uses.
