Ever repeatedly spell something wrong when you know how it's supposed to be?
 

So I had the song "Strawberry fields forever" in my head and I was looking it up. I had to type it several times because I forgot the "fields" part of the title. Anyway, when typing in 'strawberry' I spelled it 'starberry' like 5 or 6 times. I know how it's spelled, and I'd correct it right after. This is the only time I've kept misspelling it. But it will happen randomly with other words too. I just thought it an odd phenomenon, and was curious if it happens to other people too?

I do it all the time.

"Choice" "been" etc. These words look so wrong until I hit up a dictionary for affirmation.

I hate words with "i" and "e". Which is it... i before e excpet in like only one word in the english dictionary..... or is it e before i.... I I dont know.

How about pronunciation? I can't say "revelation"; it comes out "relevation" every time.

It's one of those wierd words.

The word language. I almost always spell it incorrectly the first time. And my old Torts professors name, I always inverted the second and third letters. I know better...but then again, that's never stopped me from making a mistake. ;-)

Secretary, cemetery, and achieve are all words I misspell repeatedly. Thank goodness for spellcheck. I've also trained myself to stop and look at the word closely when I type it, because I know it's likely that I've misspelled it.

THANK YOU!! This happens to me all the time, even with other words. Relevant/Revelant gets me. I end up saying revelant probably 85% of the time.

A little off track, but I wrote a newspaper article not long ago on public procurement.

In a 600+ word article, I had four cases of pubic procurement.

I understand why spellcheck missed it....but the editor?

Pacific/Specific, I can neither say it or spell it correctly. I have horrible grammar and spelling with a dash of dyslexia, so I misspell words all the time (thank GOD for the build in spell checker on here). My roommate in college was an excellent speller and know when I was writing a paper because I would yell out the simplest words across the house for him to spell. Seriously, he came back to my room one day to make sure I wasn't drunk cause I asked him to spell "chair". Even spell check couldn't figure out what I wanted to spell.

Funny side note, in one of my BASIC programs I wrote in college I compiled it and show the code to my professor and he asked me if I wanted to change the spelling errors in it. I said what spelling errors... I spelled valid (vaild) wrong 630 times in a set of code only 1200 lines long. Never noticed one of them.

I find myself recently forgetting words like "the", "of" , "that"... basically the "in between" words... Started around a year ago ...

I catch myself reading 'left' as 'felt', and vice versa.

"Maintainence" er... I mean "maintenance" is my nemesis. Otherwise, I'm a near perfect speller.

I can't say those or statistics (which just now took me two tries to spell).
It always comes out "statstictics" if I don't say it really slowly.

"necessary!" I always spell it differently. Sometimes I'll spell it "neccesary," sometimes I'll spell it "necesary," or "neccessary," or on a really off day it'll come out "nessecarry" or worse. I know how to spell it, just every time I type it I look back and notice I've misspelled it again.

Lately I've been typing "your" instead of "you're." I don't notice until I've typed a few more words and end up going back and correcting myself. This is a semi-recent development though and I think it's just karma biting me in the ass for getting upset when other people type the wrong homophone.

rhythm: over and over i scramble that word.

ostensive/ostensible: these are not quite the same, but i end up using the first because i screw up the second and get annoyed.

my favorite strange homonym is in french: temps/thon, time and tuna fish, are pronounced almost identically. for some reason, i think people asking others "what tuna fish is it?" to be funny.

One that I see misspelled time and time again is "lose" vs. "loose" (I even occasionally see "loosing.") I never get tripped up on this myself, but it happens way more often than you'd think. I'm always amazed a how many times I come across this. I think it's mainly because the double-o—"oo" stands out so well to me. My guess as to why many people get caught up on this one is because of words like choose, booze, etc.

There is another word that always trips me up, as it has two closely related forms, but I can't for the life of me remember it at the moment. I'll try to remember it and come back here.

Last night I forgot how to spell "surprise". My brain couldn't decide whether the first "r" belonged there or not, and neither "surprise" nor "suprise" looked right to me.

SUH-PRIZE! Hahah... damnit, now I'm all messed up.

At a previous company, we had a reference to "pubic meetings" in our standard contract for a few years. (It turns out that we had an extra charge for pubic meetings -- go figure.)

I'm way to perfect to make mistakes like that.

Rhythm is also a toughie, roachboy. In my head, I pronounce it like "rye-thm" so I'll remember the y is there and not later in the word.

I see this misspelled so frequently that when I see "lose" I have to double check before assuring myself that it's correct.

"Poeple." I accidentally spell it "poeple" nearly every time.
I mean "people." I accidentally spell it "poeple" nearly every time.

That, and "boil" often comes out "biol" And typing inboil five times in a row as quickly as I can just makes a mess.

here and hear, and spell checkers don't help.

I dont know if its the same thing, but when I write informally I usually write probably as prolly

and today handed me a lekker laugh out loud, when i actually spelled plums "plumbs" :D

I also speak 'samwich' and 'rough' for 'sandwich' and 'roof'.
